  1. on of my 2 South Amarican Red tails, 27" long. and I have over 100 Plecos
  2. I don't think you common had Babies, usually they need large ponds with mub banks to breed in, if they did it is a very rare thing indead, I have been trying for 2 years to get my Commons to breed I have 15 of them largest ones are 19-20" smalles ones are 7-8".
  3. I have had it about a year now, got him when he was about 6". picked up another 3" one a few weeks ago, not as active as my big guy yet, the 2000 gallon is almost done, few more final things and should be up and running by mid july. then Red will go into it with his pal Sneaky the 8" Giant Snakehead. My wife can't complain about me building a 2000 gallon tank as she bought red for me and knew how big it would get, and when she saw JR. 3" redtail she was like we should get Red a friend so no I own to RTC.
  4. not really a good algea eater, tend to hide all the time, I have 1 myself, cool when they do come out, but I find all my other Plecos are out and about more often then hiding.
  5. I love my 40 some BNPs they are awesome! but I'm a plecoholic I keep 40 BNPs 2 L240, 15 L001, 1 L191, 1 L190, 1 L155, 2 L386, 2 Goldspot sailfins, 1 L114, 1 L24, L200. Can you tell I love plecos
  6. can't say I have ever had any Plecos go for the ride into my AC 110s, but have found guppies galor in them, one I used to keep those. weird, what's your flow rate like in the tank, maybe if you add a powerhead down at the bottom of the tank, maybe they will stop going into the filter.
  7. well I thought I would post so picture of my 24" Red tail Catfish, he is currently housed in my 240 gallon plywood and Glass tank, am currently in the process of building him a new home in my Basement a 2000 gallon plwood and Acrylic tank 11'Lx6'5"Wx4'H, tank should hopefully be up and running in the next month or so.
  8. sorry guys I forgot to up date this threed the tank is up and running still need to do the trim work on it, but you know how it is had to get it filled and cycled, and get the fish in it and worry about minor details later LOL! sorry about the cruddy pictures taken with an I phone.
  9. All pleco tanks are cool, I have 11 Common plecos 2 of them albino ranging in size from 6-19" in my 240 gallon, with 2 Gold spotted sailfins, 1 Rhino pleco, 19" RTC, 7" Featherfin, 6 Raphael catfish, 4 Oscars, 3 Green Severums, 4 Convicts, 1 Jack Demsey, My 90 gallon has 20 Albino/cross dwarf Bristelnose Plecos, 1 Clown pleco, 1 Leopard Frog pleco, 1 Royal Pleco, 1 Leopard Cactus Pleco, 1 Rubber lip Pleco, 1 Gold spotted sailfin, I love plecos and I want more!
  10. always buy more silicone then you think you will need, for a normal 4 footer it's easy to go through 2 tubes with no problem, I used 3 tubes just for my front window on my 240 plywood and glass 8 footer, glad I had bought 5. what you don't use can be taken back, but it really sucks when you have to run to the store in the middle of the reseal because you didn't buy enough.
  11. I heard the same thing, the africans will usually destroy the plants, or up root them all the time, everytime I had silk plants in with them I would find them floating every other day. Tank looks awesome.
  12. I have used a turkey baister to catch fry with, and use my hand to katch the larger ones, but if you have gravel in the tank makes it really hard to catch small fry, usually I catch the female while she is still holding put her in a seperate tank till I either strip her or she spits them out her self.
  13. maybe they like Will Smith and will get Jiggy with it LOL!
  14. BN plecos, are great for tank cleaners, and are cool, easy to breed, my Albino/ dwarf cross just breed for me. I love my Rhino pleco he's just big and awesome, sailfins as stated grow slower than commons, I keep 12 commons plecos 2 being albino, 20 BN plecos, 5 Gold spotted Sailfins, 1 Leopard Frog, 1 Clown. as stated doesn't mater what type of Pleco you decide to put in your system, but you will need a piece of driftwood for them.
  15. It's over priced big time, I made that mistake of buying one from there, all bet it's a great looking pleco, but I did some checking around with some members on another fish forum and found out they can buy them way cheaper. man was I PO when I found that I could have got one for under $70 bucks.
  16. I have 2 in my 90 gallon comunity tank, they are only 3".

    Lfs T8's

buy your lights for the hareware store instead, much cheeper for the same bulbs.
  18. I would agree with everyone, you could prob go with a 6500k bulb from HD or lowes or wally mart.
  19. with a heavly planted tank and a low bioload I would suggest the 406, or the Ehiem pro 3 both are good units and parts are easy to get if you have problems, and any canister can have what ever media you want to put into it, it all comes down to what you want to spend.
  20. as suggested bare bottom or a very thin bed of sand 1/2"-3/4" thick, small 2-3mm pea gravel will work also.
  21. I would check your local building codes, and permit office to find out for sure, I have seen lots of ponds in the Edmonton and County of Strathcona that are over 2 feet deep. For keeping koi or goldfish in a pond over winter they recomend using a heater to keep a hole open in the ice to allow for gas exchange, and you only want watermovement in the shallow part of the pond not the deeper part where the fish will hang out over the winter where the water will be warmer, by constantly moving the water around in the whole pond you will cause the water to be colder then by not moving. Check out Pondguru's U-Tube videos on how to build a pond, he goes into detail on this, he builds these things for a living.
  22. Nice idea thaks for sharing it!
  23. I can just amagine how many parents ordered it after their kids see these adds, just a bad idea to me, rather take the kids to the LFS and get them started the right way with the proper information on how to care for their new fish friend, and know exactly what you are getting. Next it will be Nemo in a can! -01-
  24. awesome looking Plecos, beautyful coloring on them.
