Vallisneria
how would you tell them apart? Wouldn't one have a sailfin and the other not :P :smokey: Seriuosly, I have no idea. They always look the same to me. :P
Tanker
After comparing the pictures and info on planetcatfish.com, I have to say I'm willing to sway towards a sail fin, myself... The fact that the dorsal fin is spotted, but not "translucent" around the dots, whereas the common tend to be not as thick skinned on the dorsal and almost gives translucent effect... I'm sure there is a FAR more scientific method if properly IDing it, but what the heck... go ahead and stand proud and annouce that you (might) have a sail fin! birger
A quick way is to make a comparison of the amount of of rays in the dorsal fin, gibbiceps has more
dunl
Would 13 be considered more, or normal?
birger
Comparing P.pardalis which is the usual common nowadays and P. gibbiceps the sailfin, the pardalis usually has 12 and the gibby 13-14 dorsal rays
