Tigs
Hmm yeah was debating that. Course, almost guaranteed it's an electronic ballast and thus I can decrease lighting as needed. thanks,
jvision
If you're going more than 2xT5, you'll want to be adding a lot of plants, ferts and suplimental carbon if you don't want an algae farm. I know quite a few people who've said their cherries etc ate algae, but mine never have. Something to consider.
Tigs
T5's I've seen are all high output. Thus the T8's should be lower light output on a one to one basis. Are you using T5's Jason, or T8's? Curious how bright a dual lamp T8 would be 4-6 inches above the tanks. As you say, I don't want an algae farm. jvision
On my main system, I run a combo of T8 and T5 - dual bulbs about 6" above the surface. I grow a tonne of moss. On my planted tank, I'm currently running 2 T5HOs and 2x 12W LED spotlights. I'm going to be upgrading it to 4x 12W LEDs w. the 2 T5s (which are mainly for color and will be about 8" above the tank)
