Eugene
What do you think is the best brand for growing plants ,I heard the specs regarding wave length is not accurate when it is actually measured.
jvision
I used the ones from Home Depot - I think they were Sylvania? Grew plants like crazy when I was using them. I came across a stack of the Hagen bulbs (can't remember the actual brand, but they're the typical ones found at LFS) and they'r keeping moss and ferns growing. Eugene
How deep are your tanks and what wattage you use?
jvision
I was using 48" bulbs on 20" deep tank, I would have shot for at least 2wpg and it was a 135gal. Now I have 2bulb strips about 6" above the tanks.
Eugene
So you had about 6 t8s that seems a bit much what are the other dimensions of the tank? What do you grow?
jvision
I don't have the 135 any more, but I did use 6 bulbs - it was a 6' tank with lots of overlap in the middle - and, it grew everything! Had a nice carpet of Glosso, swords were huge and flowered all the time, stopped growing stem plants b/c they're a pain to trim 2x/wk... I think there are pics in my Journal thread Now, I just have them over my rack of tanks and they manage to feed moss and ferns. Nothing else really grows well, but being 6" above the water, it's understandible. I really just have them b/c they were free and I need to see into my tanks.
