robwhughes
Hey gang, Just got a new glass rimless tank and stand off Kijiji. Problem is.... the tank is is 48" x 16" x 20" (approx 65 gallons) but the stand is about 48" x 13.5" x 29". The tank sits about an inch off the front and back of the stand. Didn't think it would be a big issue but after some more reading I see it is. Just thought I'd check here for confirmation that I should just proceed to sell this stand and find a larger one? Any advice is appreciated.
JORG
You could just get a 3/4 inch piece of plywood that is the correct dimensions and put it on top of the stand.
Frogfish
Jorg is definitely right. Why waste a perfectly good stand all you need is plywood, paint, glue and screws.
robwhughes
Great, thanks guys, this was exactly what I pitched yesterday. The only challenge with this idea is convincing my (already skiddish) wife this is safe for our three year old. Thanks again!
Claudiohv
Tell her the kid should not be able to take the tank down or move it. The tank is more than 500 lbs...
robwhughes
Have done. But you know... Mothers. . Thanks!
robwhughes
I think her concern is that since it doesn't fit properly, the stand wasn't meant for a tank this size and therefore may not hold up.
Frogfish
Reinforce it wood is cheap, while you're at it build extra shelving and a basket for the inside of the door. Wives love organization at least mine does. I hear you about the kid thing though we have a 4 month old here and still have to figure a way to lock up the cabinets and safeguard power cords before she starts crawling about. Baby really likes the fish though, the fishtank tv works better then a soother sometimes.
