daframer
I have some slabs of slate and flat shards of limestone and other various rocks that I want to make into rock caves and structure in my African tank. Are there any types I should not use in a tank, or any rocks ok to use?
ckmullin
Do an acid test. if it bubbles it's reacting to the carbonate = bad.
creekbottom
But in an African tank where the fish like liquid rock, is limestone actually going to be bad? Our water is already hard enough and with regular water changes I don't think it makes much of a difference.
daframer
What's an acid test? Run some acid on top of the rock and see how it reacts? Would muratic work or something stronger?
geleen
What's an acid test? Run some acid on top of the rock and see how it reacts? Would muratic work or something stronger? Yes a reaction would mean leaching. Muriatic is great if you have some around, although vinegar also works to some extent.
