M. Boesemani And Salinity

I'm curious to know what salt concentrations do you M. boesemani enthusiasts have in your tanks?

I read in the Rainbowfish bible (Adrian Tappin) that they have between 0-500 mg/L in the wild. I have always added salt to my freshwater tanks believing that it assists in osmoregulation. In the past I have followed the API recommendation of 1 Tbsp per 5 Gallons which gives a really rough 130mg / L concentration, but I’m looking to snipe the water conditions for my new Aytinjos.

Thanks!

Like john said, I don't add salt to my tanks. the water we have in alberta is already fairly hard (mine tests out at approx. 200-300tds depending on time of year)

my aytinjo's spawn with no help from me, and babies hatch in the parents tank without my help.

I wouldn't bother modifying water, and I don't in most cases.

also, unless you are testing your water, its pretty much a shot in the dark.

hope this helps
