johnsmith
In a 90g tank would you recommend I use an extension so the intake tubes go further down the tank? Right now I just have the one tube and it''s pretty far away from the bottom of the tank. I would think it would catch more waste if it was lower. I have pfs as a substrate and it does get stirred around a bit by excavating cichlids. I would think with one extension this shouldn't be a problem. African_Fever
I'd run at least one extension. I run in two on my AC 500's in a 125 (I think the depth is the same as yours would be).
RD.
My 125 is 22 inches high, and I have 3 AC 500's on it, and have 'modified' shortened extensions on each intake. I basically made them long enough so that I could perform a 50% water change if need be, without having the full length of the extension, to avoid any potential issues with sand. It also removes the duo intake screen end from the top intake, which IMO really isn't necessary.
Vapor
I have a 90 as well and use one extension on it. Works great.
johnsmith
When I cleaned out my AC at the end the syn x calls home there was quite a bit of sand in the media compartment. I guess I won't be extending that intake tube. I'm thinkng of putting a sponge over it to keep out some of that sand.
RD.
IMO it also depends on the fish, as well as the type of sand (as in particle size) that you use. I've never had sand in my AC filters.
johnsmith
Yeah, this new guy's a real digger / spitter. I didn't have a problem before he was in there.
