I just want some quick info one them as for care and stuuf, The foods i have are flakes, for tryopical fish and fry. i also have shrimp pellets and i could start some bbs if needed. Vallisneria Posted October 18, 2004 Report Share Posted October 18, 2004 I dont' usually recommend buying fish you haven't researched but thankfully you didn't do too bad with the Ps. Acei. They are a fairly non aggressive mbuna. The need a mostly veggie based diet. A good spirulina based flake like nutri fin max spirulina flake(is what i use) works great. I have also feed my mbuna hakari cichlid excel with good results. For the protein part of the diet i feed new life spectrum pellets. All the fish in the tank get these foods, both mbuna and haps and i've never had any problems with bloat. Bloat is something you have to worry about with Mbuna. Its best not to feed mbuna too much protein/ fatty foods as they can get bloat. I would maybe suggest feeding a primarily veggie diet with a few feedings of some more protein rich foods. An example would be one day feed veggies, then next day a protein based food. Posted October 19, 2004 Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 Val covered things nicely, but I wanted to mention that Acei are actually considered "omnivores", so the entire group of fish could eat the same food with no issues. Having said that, some spirulina flakes a few times a week wouldn't hurt either. What size of tank is this, and how many species/fish? But if thats the case then feeding them hakari cichlid excel, nutri fin max spirulina flakes and a protein flake(in my case NLS pellets) would work. I feed this to my mbuna and haps and have never had diet related problems. I believe this tank is a 30g and that she bought 6 pseudotropheus acie fry, 4-5 Aulonocara Eureka Red and 4-5 Nelamprologus Brichardi. As for bloat, I have had no problems since I quit using cheap food. Like dog food you can feed dog chow or technical. One's a little more money, but the end result is worth it. The flakes i have are by topfin, (they had one feeding with it and demolished it) the fry flakes i had are first bites by hikiri (sp) and some other stuff by nurtrafin. Im tequnicaly banned from buying for fish stuff, but i need food so im aloud to get them some (im suposed to be saving money now). Out of the petstores around me theres petsmart which has hikiri and petcetera which has nutrafin. So ill be able to buy them almost anything they need. and yes its what i have in the tank right now, their quiet small at the moment, the biggest of all of them is maybe a inch, i know their might be aggresion problems, and some might out grow the tank, but id like to wait till they are bigger, see how their coulors come in and see whos male and whos female. RD. Posted October 22, 2004 Report Share Posted October 22, 2004 Yep, my guess is the brichardi will be the first to pair off, and from then on things will get ugly. Once brichardi start breeding, they can become very territorial, and very aggressive. My breeding pair attack & bite my water change hose, and hard!
