s.h.
so i just got a demasoni and introduced him into my tank and such. I came back two days later to see him lying on his side on a rock with his tail fin completely nipped off. i dont have a seperate tank to put him in so i put him in a net breeder for now. I've been treating with melafix so far. Is there anything i can do to help him get his tail fin back? and how long will it take? any help is appreciated
nevchewy
I have had this to my fish... There is nothing you can really do to speed up the healing process, as it takes time. I have seperated the wounded fish into a 10 gallon tank where the fish doesn't have to worry about being picked on. I have had this happen about 4 times and to be honest i'm batting .500 as 2 of the wounded fish grew their tail back perfectly. The other 2 have a Major deformity with their back tail and it doesn't look like it will get any better. Time... Time... Time... it will take a month or more to heal perfectly... you'll be able to tell if the tail is going to grow back properly inside 2 weeks. This has been my experience... nev Edited June 16, 2006 by nevchewy

s.h.
thanks for the info, right now it looks fairly fleshy and im hoping to set up a small 5 gallon tank with good filtration for him to swim around in and do water changes daily to keep out infections

Vapor
My fish have never lost a complete tail, but they have grown back what they lost. A nice quiet tank and some alone time would be a great idea though. Good luck.
