Vets are in business, and it just doesn't make business sense to spend an inordinant amount of time studying about a group of animals that very rarely come in. The majority of vets' business is from mammals - that's what they should know... probably inside & out. But, like Ian said, they should at least have a reference available should something else come in. That's something I love about Henry @ Nature's Corner. Any time I bring up a topic that he's not totally positive on, we go and check out the reference books; whether it's about disease, or identification of plants or fish, he's always eager to help find the answers!
