  1. mostly i got the shells from a craft store. but the biggest one they always use i got from my brother in law. From the ocean and its been sitting on his shelf for probably a year or two. but i also soaked them and rinsed them out the best i could.. im just curious as to why they just showed up now and not a month ago. they have been living in shell since i first bought them i already have a cycled 15g for the golds. they will be moved tomorrow. but will still have multis in there. I will see if i can get the one gold who is always in there to vacate the shell. But there is also the shells that came from the pet store that the fish came in. could it be possible that it could be from there?
  2. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW   ok how would i get that in my tank? and how would i get it out of me tank? im almost thinking the shellies are getting mad and spitting it at me. They do that when they dont like or want something. But still i dont want that in my tank. I have them in water should i wait and see what it does?
  3. have you thought about getting a male closer to her size? if he ends up being more trouble then good. i know some aggression is normal but if hes just beating her up so bad it stresses her. She may be to stressed to lay eggs. Its just a thought if he does it again.
  4. by him i take it? or maybe another fish? well either way i wish you the best of luck....
  5. I read and witness their fighting and she will be able to hold her own or should. They get really really aggresive. Dont worry. Now if you start to see bitten fins, scratchs or wounds then i would worry. Mine lip lock so much there noses look bruised, but then they are fine and happy after.
  6. i have a 10g shellie tank. i have one snail and 2 guppys I left to go out and came home to find one of this things.. curious i went to get a net.. i came back and there was another. it wasnt there when i first found the first one. I cleaned my shells very very well and had these in the tank for about a month now. so i scooped them up. They arent alive thank god. lol they look almost like wood with spikes.
  7. good luck. it shouldnt take long. its a very intresting site to see them spawn. their colors will change drastically over the period of breeding raising fry and what not. very neat also. of course post pictures
  8. I love it. She is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
  9. elongatus he is a mean little f *r i left one tetra in the tank and in less then 5 minutes it was gone.
  10. This is our new piranha - hrp with fry- Discus- A Golden ocellatus- A picture of two of my dads(williewonka) red belly piranhas-
  11. lateral line errosion?which is the same treatment for hith just a guess. Is it getting worse or staying the same. those fish dont sound like good tank mates. Maybe ones picking on them while you dont see them. My loaches will often go up and down the side of my discus. Any other symptoms? going dark? white jelly like pooh? hanging out in corners. what i would do in your situation is take the fish out put it in a qt tank and treat with metro... Pictures would help some..
  12. Thanks kevin. I just found it very strange. Their eggs are incredibly tiny too. I just wanted to know what others had. My female is incredibly colorful blue/white and black is really sharp. The male is pretty dull just tinge light blue on the fins and over him. one more question if i want the new batch to live, i have on average 2 weeks to move them until they start again and then eat them? Sorry for hijacking this post . but it should be useful to you when you breed yours.
  13. I have only had 2 batches. I have done nothing special at all. I can post params later. Just curious kevin. how many on average fry do you get. I have read to many places that on average they get 20-50 fry And when i moved my first batch i stopped counting at 200.. Thanks Jen
  14. very nice. Thanks for showing us. i love discus so much.. more pictures.
  15. looks like it snowed in your tank -roll- -roll- lovely fish darcy. very nice. I just cant get over how much it looks like winter in there to me tho
  16. i dont really have a qt. i stick most new fish in a 10g with my guppies. but i never had a problem. plus usually its only new fish going into a new tank. They only bad experiance i had was when we did qt the fish before hand. although we will have one soon.
  17. mine are almost gray when they lay. so from that picture compared to mine i would say no but dont take my word on that. If i seen those i would say yes. but just keep and eye on them and hope for the best.. Keep us updated. If you need a male i have a tank of about 200 hrp fry and new batch of eggs. So if you wait a few months you can contact me
  18. well i caged them so they should be but the buggers must have attacked it because the cage was knocked over and the eggs gone. -roll- -roll- Pretty sad when the fish are smarter then me. Maybe next time. back to the drawing board.
  19. Thank you. Usually they eat all the eggs by now. so thats why im completey shocked to still see some. maybe they will end up good parents after all. they started laying about 10 last night. So its been almost 12 hours. which is the longest her eggs has lasted ever besides when i stole them away I actually seen this female once follow another female around who was laying eggs (alone) and eat them after she laid them. They were unfertile but she was the only fish to eat the eggs of any fish.
  20. i just needed to share my excitement. Last night my discus laid again. woke up this morning to find some eggs left Not many but some. But now that my water is where it should be at im hoping to make it to the next stage. I had made a cage for after since there was no way to make one for before. Just want to see if they will make it this time.
  21. well i moved the parents into the breeding tank. And they are doing well. I want to teach them to be good parents. So i read that sometimes if you can keep the eggs with them until wiggler stage they will learn to be better parents. They wont eat the wigglers but might stop eating the eggs after raising babies. Im not in a hurry or anything to get them to breed and raise up the eggs. Its all a learning process. Before when they were in the main tank i had the chance to steal the eggs when she started eating them. My water was to hard in the breeding tank at the time. Sincce then its drastically softer and perfect to raise babies in. There first breeding attempt was last week in the breeding tank. I snuck in the room to watch and the male trys not to let her eat them.. But this time she litterally knocked the eggs off after each round and would snack. So i was hoping to make something to give them a couple shots of letting the eggs make it and having them raise the wigglers. The idea of the breeder net underneath is a good idea tho. so if she knocks them down she cant eat them... But if the male doesnt have a chance to properally fertalize them it doesnt work either.
  22. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make an egg cage. Not the kind that you take the eggs and put them in. but for the fish to lay on that keeps them safe from hungry mouths. lol. I had an idea to put one on after which would have been great, but now she is purposally knocking the eggs off to eat so the male doesnt get mad at her. They are getting ready to lay again so i was hoping to have something in place to see if i can get them further along this time, not further behind. The male is great at all aspects of being a father but the mother isnt learning much. Oh they are breeding on a intake tube (not hooked up to a filter) suction cupped to the side of the tank. Any ideas would be great. Thanks Jen

You can use prazipro for the main ones. theres another drug for nemtodes- its called Levamisole. which i have yet to find. but im sure that there is both those drugs in Jungle Anti-Parasite medicated fish food(for internal parasites) which i have yet to use. ha sorry for all the edits. I looked up Flubendazole and apparently you dont need the levamisole. but i still dont know where to find it in cananda i hope someone can help..
