Cookies are funny things sometimes. I have two laptops and very occasionally I will sneak onto the board from work if I am waiting for an important PM. Anytime I log in from one computer, any other remembered login on another computer becomes defunct. This suggests to me that the server is tracking logins too, and uniquely identifies the username with the last cookie issued to a given machine. Without knowing exactly how IP.Board works, this could be purposeful for security--ie, to prevent the same user from somehow being logged in twice at the same time.

All this talk of moss makes me jealous! I have been wanting to make a moss wall in my betta tanks for a long time. I'll be one of those eager to snatch up some of that Christmas moss if anyone ends up with too much. >.>

Great thread! I used to use the sink adapter but eventually tossed it because it was so wasteful--all that water that comes out the bottom and just escapes out down the drain. Instead, I just hook the end of the hose directly to the tap (when refilling) and to empty the tank I have the other end fitted so I can stick a gravel vac tube on it, and the gravel vac tube fits over the output of my MaxiJet powerhead. I vac manually with a bucket when needed. Also, the type of browser does not matter if the original photos were uploaded at a giant size--unless the browser itself is preset to automatically resize certain kinds of images. These pics are about 640x480 though which is reasonable. If the browser isn't resizing them, then the screen resolution of the person's PC could be at fault--a 640x480 image is going to look a lot bigger on a screen set to 800x600 than it will on a screen set to 1024x780 or higher.

The water is pretty shallow too (at least near the blind), I doubt it would be deep enough for pike even if the water wasn't so hot... The sign is definitely out of date though; it says the longnose dace is simply "rare and endangered". I guess in the 22 years since the fish was declared extinct they couldn't be bothered to get a new sign... : ( Well, I looked and looked, but I could only find two very short clips. I swear I had more but I guess they got deleted. Anyway, I tried to have some fun with the video instead, and since it'll be up on my YouTube page for others to see, I added in some "educational info". Well done! If you can take videos of each of the species you have up on Gills 'n' Fins, you could embed some of the videos into the website as an extra "hook" for each variety...

My four bettas are in 2 divided 10 gallon tanks, both planted. I found it was better overall than a 5g for each.

I imagine you have to untape the bottle after the fish is in it to get the fish out?? Is there any possibility of the tape adhesive introducing nasty chemicals to the water?

I'm just putting together the movie clips so I'll post that shortly. They're brief but still cool. To tide everyone over, here are some photos. This is the informative sign down near the blind. Regarding the sailfin mollies, the sign says that they were originally all black when they were first released in the springs, but have since developed into checkered and marble colors, with "occasional" golden color. However, when I was there, nearly ALL of the mollies were golden in color, with very few black/checkered/marbled. Given the color of the mosses and muck in the spring I can't help but think the golden is prevailing now because those fish are harder to see. And here's a real looker. : ) This is the one that looks like a killi to me. It's hard to see but his dorsal is mostly "on edge" in this shot so it also makes him look like he might be a mosquito fish, but I'm pretty sure it is a molly--one of the clips is this fish trying to cozy-up to a girl and you get to see his big sail.

I don't have time tonight to get the video and photos up but I will aim to do it tomorrow or Friday after work. : )

I have photos and videos of the mollies. Some of them were gorgeously colored, almost like Golden Wonder Killies! I should probably put some of the video up on YouTube...

I agree with Blue Ram, get rid of the heater ASAP before it really cooks your fish. I keep rainbows too (different variety) and they just don't need water that warm. A few degrees can make a lot of difference! Warmer water has less oxygen too, and rainbows really appreciate well-oxygenated water.

Yikes! That's pretty scary. The filters could easily have sparked a fire!! So...I guess your friend isn't your friend anymore (certainly wouldn't be mine after risking my house and home like that...).

Buy a timer that takes a grounded plug. : ) Seriously though, you scan find one at a hardware store (cheaper than the LFS). Tank's looking good!

I have a 20g that has that cloudy white stuff on it too. For the life of me I can't get it off, and it does not disappear when wet...

The existing "journal" threads on the board (which sometimes show up in different forums, if memory serves) could be moved into this new section for easier reference, too. Sometimes tanks take time and it's a shame when the journals get buried by time.

Moss, other than java moss, seems to be pretty hard to get here. I've wanted to make a moss wall in one of my tanks for a long time but after lots of looking around have resigned myself to AquaBid when the weather here is warmer.

I can never keep otos for very long either. It would be nice to be able to, because the BN Pleco in my 33g is just too much for it I think...

Panacur does not work against camallanus. Fenbendazole (sometimes also called Flubendazole) impacts different types of organisms but not camallanus. I did a lot of research on that and had a discussion with Charles Harrison about it too. He sells Fenbendazole/Flubendazole but it is a treatment for other internal and external parasites like gill flukes, ich, etc. Since it's been a year I forget the more specific reasons why it's no good for camallanus, unfortunately... Besides, Levamisole is a one day treatment. In the 3 weeks for Panacur, the worms are going to be able to do a hell of a lot of internal damage to the fish. Levamisole is so effective you can literally see it working.

lol For $54 you could order enough from Charles Harrison to treat all your tanks for years and years...
