  1. The Lfs that was here until 1990 would bring in available species upon request and had Pink Tailed Chalceus on a regular basis, are they not available anymore? It might be an idea to ask Riverfront or Golds if they can get what you want.
  2. When I was in the hoby before i had a series of lights on timers starting and finiishing the day with low intensity lighting for an hour moving up to growlux lights and then to growlux and daylight combined for a total of 16 hours a day. I could enjoy all of my fish then and didnot have any startled fish from instantly lighting it up at full intensity.
  3. I see a lot of concerns about the stand failing but in fact the sides of the tank work like bearing walls and hold everything rigid. What I see is that that stand is more than sufficient structuraly to hold that tank. if the stand were to sag the glass would have to sag first, ain't going to happen.
  4. I hate to a Harbinger of bad news but the Fibatape you used has a tendency to come loose and show through the mud you should consider putting 2 more coats of primer on the joints as it will soak in cure and make the mud harder
  5. I had a friend who owned the store he closed it in 1990, and i've had the glass in the shed since then. I traded him an old car for about 2 tons of glass. I only have about a third of it left now.
  6. OOOOPS It is G.E. 1200 Silicone not 100
  7. I have built over 20 aquariums and it sure is a cheap way of having a setup for a fishroom. I just built a 36g tank 14.5"*14.5"*40" 6 weeks ago out of 10 mil glass shelves from a jewellery store that closed. The only expense was a tube of G.E. 100 silicone which is aquarium safe for $16 then I used the rest of the tube to repair 75g tank that I bought with a broken end panel. The stand for the 36g was constructed from parts of an entertainment stand that had been discarded. I just constructed a stand for the 75g tank from desk parts. The 36g tank. Will be posting the 75 soon

    Parts

Where in Edmonton can I get parts for an Aquaclear 500 filter? Mine has a badly worn shaft and sounds like a coffee grinder when running. And also where is the cheapest place to buy filters?
  9. It's great to find a local forum. I jus got back into the hobby about 3 months ago after being away from it for about 15 years. All I can say is man has there been a lot of changes technology, tank design, new species etc. and especialy costs OMG. But any way I,m from Fort Saskatchewan. I joined the Edmonton Aquarium Club this month, and went as a guest last month with a friend. I hope to get to know some of you and share with you. I am an acomplished aquarium builder, and have built aroun twenty tanks in the past ranging from thirty gallons up to two hundred thirty five gallons.
  10. Here's a picture of my 46g bow front tank. It is home to Apistogramma Cf. Pertensi, Pelvichromis Pulcher, Corydoras Aeneus, Blackskirts, Glowlights, Otocinclus Affinis, some ancient about 2 years old Zebra Danios, and a 7" Multiradiatus Pleco named Mr. Biggey that I rescued from my 5 year old Grand daughter when it was about 5" long and living in a 1 gallon hex.
  11. Re: duck weed There's a reason it is called a weed, It will grow in almost any condition.
  12. This is my 36g home made aquarium. It is 14.5"*14.5"*40". It houses Pterophylum Dumerelli, Apistogramma agassizii, Microgeophagus Altispinosa, Otocinclus Affinis, and Albino corydoras of unknown sp.
  13. I have M. Altispinosa, M. Ramirezi (gold)' Apistogramma Cf. Pertensi, Apistogramma Agassizi, Pterophylum Dumerelli, and Pelvicachromis Pulcher (yes I know they are West African). I have just returned to the hobby 3 months ago after about 15 years. I have always been intrigued with the S. American Cichlids, so here I go. Oh yeah by the way it is true that tanks breed faster than fish LOL. I currently have a 46g bowfront a home made 36g tank and a 15g quarantine/breeding tank running but a 75g tank just hatched. I'll have to see what it does.
