  1. That about explains all.. Thanks.
  2. I am a little confused as well... So Toirtis you are saying that the male and female is the only that there will be a percentage of Albino fry for sure.. if only one parent has the gene chances are slim. Is that correct?
  3. All my tanks are in my basement so I guess I will have to use the water running to vacume the tank with the Python if I buy it. Thanks for the good ideas! Actually just adding the water into the tanks with this method, would be a great help and just continueing on vacuming my tanks into 20 gallon rubbermaid tanks would be ok as well. Would a garden hose be ok for this use... anyone know?
  4. Here is my question... If a person purchases an albino cichlid and breeds it with a regular specimin of that spiecies is there a higher rate of fry that will be albino if the albino is male or female. Or do both parents have to be Albino to get a greater percentage of albino offspring?
  5. I am considering purchasing one of these but I have several concerns. I realize that a person would put the de-chlorinator in the tank that you are filling with water... does the de-chlorinator work fast enough to get rid of the clorine as the water is filling the tank as to not hurt the fish? After all 50% water changes is a lot of water and chlorine in a hurry.. How are you able to regulate the water temperature? When a person is removing water from the tank... does it use a lot of water to create the suction to pull out the dirty water?
  6. I think you would be happy with endlers... they are small and colorful.
  7. Yo Yo loaches are a good choice... They dont get to large and they do a good job on the snails
  8. I agree the filters may have enough culture to carry the load.. However if you have or can get plants into the aquarium they will help tremendously as they really do take up the amonia nicely and with your partialy cycled tank will surely make all the difference... Riccia ,Hornwort any kind of floating plant that you can purchase or get from somebody online here cheaply and in quantity would be great..
  9. Wow that external flash makes a big difference... what brand and size of camera are you using?
  10. I have never seen a planted tank that I didnt like.. Good start
  11. They look like Golden Algae eaters to me..
  12. I would agree. However how about the Africans that live in the deeper levels like the Haps... Is duck weed native to Africa, Or is it native to North Amarica ?
  13. I agree about the part about letting it grow in a tank as it is bothersome! I finally got rid of most of what I had groing but if you dont get every last little bit it keeps coming back although at pace that easy to keep up to. I am tempted to let it grow out a little more and try feeding it to some of my Africans. I wonder if the green in their diet is good for them... anyone know?
  14. Do they eat enough of it to keep it under control... or do they gobble it all up?
  15. What Africans are you feeding that stuff to degrassi?
  16. I would post some of my Rainbows however for some reason I have had a difficult time downloading pictures on this site... I will give it another whirl in the next few days... Good pictures people!
  17. Stacey is so right .. just post it on the fanatic site and 90% of the time they can ID it... and they will back it up with other photos etc.
  18. Another good site to Identify pleco's is called Pleco Fenatics.com True Zebras come at quite a cost.... I really like Plecos, its the hugh bio waste that deters me from really concentrating on plecos and other cats....
  19. I am following the instructions from a very knowledgable and successful lady that spawned and grew out the fish that I purchased . Also I have done a lot of research on the salt issue and from what I have found out these fish have come from that kind of environment and it also wards off many disease problems that could occur if they are in just regular tap water... My motto is try and make the fishes environment as close as possible to their natural environment and it will likely pay off with better color, health and just generally a happier fish... Perhaps I am wrong but from what I have seen so far it looks like I am doing the right thing ! These fish are growing fast and look great..
  20. I wanted something in my African tank that houses 4-Taiwan Reef Prot. Stavini and 5 Labs.... I thought there would be a problem with putting some snails to help with algae... first of all I thought the fish would likely kill the snails and second of all I was a little concerned with the snails tollerating the table spoon of Pickling salt and table spoon of Epps and salts that I add to every five gallons of water in my tank. I found some Ruby snails that look great and was told that they actualy liked salinity... Well they have been in my tank for a month and a half and they are doing well and they keep the algae in check on my rocks and glass... Hope this helps others that were looking for an algae crew for their African tanks that have non aggresive fish.. I may add some more in the future... And I also add the odd sinking algae pellet for the fish just in case the snails do to good of a job...
  21. You can rent the carpet cleaner at Home Depot and it sucks water out of a carpet like you wouldnt believe. Then you should rent a good fan from them and a de-humidifier and run that for a day or two. Make sure to pull up the carpet where the spill occured and dry out or replace that section on underlay. And you are done with the ordeal!
  22. Sounds good... I will give it a try
  23. The Hornwart looks like it may work... I looked at a site that showed bunches of it weighed down and sunk to the bottom of an aquarium it looked quite nice.... The only thing that would concern me about it is they say that you have to be careful with the decaying hornwart and it needs to be removed quickly as it will kill fish. Have you tried this your self Sam?
  24. Have you looked at the devistation this plant has caused in the Southern states and California... Wonder how it ever got into North America... Litterly kills lakes and its inhabitants in a short period of time.. Would be nice in an aquarium tho.. Thanks for the suggestion but I think I looking for a plant that grows a little slower and a touch bigger and less dense..
