  1. PM me Vi and I'll go get them for you tomorrow. Rick ok, ok, Gillian says we should extend the FREE Aquarium Plants sale until Sunday, January 18 since we will be OPEN again this Sunday from 12pm-4pm anyway.
  2. http://nlsfishfood.com/ Went there, got a list of websites who distribute. Went to the Canadian one listed who doesn't sell to me. That one lists some of the stores which I've already been to yet don't have it. I've been to NC, they don't have it but I didn't talk to them about ordering it in. I've been slowly switching to nls as my other food supply runs out. I'm now out of my big pellets and some of my fish are having trouble finding/eating the smaller stuff. Hi Boas, yes we do have it in stock in the 600g jar. $39.99 We carry pretty much the whole NLS product line. 7. They are nice! I am attempting to hunt them down again. They are not easy to find Does anyone know of a common name for them? Maybe another Pitbull Pleco type?
  8. I could check and see if there is any pond tours in Calgary if you like?
  9. Anyone interested in seeing many types of water gardens and ponds, you may want to check out the tour that is put together by the KARA Foundation. This is a great way to see a nice variety of ponds in a short period of time. Saturday and Sunday July 14 and 15th. For more information and to see who the KARA Foundation is, check out their website <here> We have tickets for this event on sale here at Nature's Corner and there is a list of other places with tickets on the KARA Foundation website Thanks!
  10. We all know that April showers bring May flowers, right? But did you also know that April showers could give way to your least favorite kind of plant … algae? Yep, it seems that rain, combined with a bit of lightning, can add nitrates to your pond through something called “atmospheric fixation.” It’s all a part of what we call the nitrogen cycle. We used to attribute an algae bloom in the pond after a thunderstorm to fertilizer run-off, and that may still be a factor, but you should also consider the lightning involved in the storm. Nitrogen gas is broken up, allowing it to combine with oxygen-forming nitrogen oxide, which is dissolved in rainwater. To put it simply, nitrate is fertilizer, so it’s like you’re adding fertilizer to your pond. Have you ever noticed that your grass is always a bit greener after a good storm? That’s why! So what can help you counteract the murky, algae lined water that may result from a strong thunderstorm? Well, first of all, it’s important to know that you won’t always get an algae bloom after a storm ... it really depends on your pond. But if you do, your aquatic plants immediately go to work, chowing down on the nitrates and using them to grow. So your aquatic plants aren’t only beautiful, but they’re a useful part of your pond’s ecosystem. Another option for you is to add some liquid bacteria immediately after the storm to counter-act all the nutrients that are heading into the water. An important thing to remember is not to let a little algae disrupt the way you handle your pond. It’s very natural to have algae growing in your pond; after all, how many ponds built by Mother Nature herself have a little algae here and there? Don’t start fooling with your water chemistry until you know there’s a definite problem. Algae is a part of pond ownership, and while we don’t want our pond overrun by it, a little here and there adds character. Add some bacteria and let your plants help you fight the good fight. After all, those May flowers are going to need a little extra boost to be big and glorious this season. Wouldn’t it be nice if Mother Nature whipped up a little rain and lightening to help them along the way?
  11. There is no male in the tank. She's in a 90 with no other fish in the tank. It is Jeff's (the pond builder) much loved pet. We'll post a clearer pick of her right away.
  12. Pic of eggs from Nandopsises old midas. There must be a thousand eggs! Apparently she would like to have a male over for dinner  SHE has a 90 gallon all to herself.

  15. Yep, about 35 years....sad to see it gone. Previous to G & G it was Rainbow Tropicals (early/mid 60's to mid/late 70's) owned by Fred and Bertha Gergley and both Rainbow Tropicals and double G were on the main floor. It was Tom (the Koi Pet Shop) that moved the store downstairs. ahhhhhh History.
  16. Hey Nick, Nice video. Remember we need the bodies of the deceased for the refund. Maybe I'll feed the neons some more NLS to beef them up a bit more. How many are left?
  17. Some easier plants with lower light requirements could include Aponogeton species, Java fern, Anubias, Cryptocoryne species, water sprite, Java moss, Crinum (onion bulb), Limnophila (ambulia). A little more info can be found here http://faq.thekrib.com/plant-qa.html HTH
