  1. All of my tanks are upstairs, but so far no problems. I've turned all of the heaters down, and unplugged the lights on the tank with the cheap heater and no plants. I was in Edmonton all day yesterday, (with the windows closed here at home) and the tanks were all hovering aroung 30 degrees. So not the emergency I was half expecting.......
  2. Does anyone here know which (if any) Calgary stores stock the 250 gram jar of the "H2O stable wafers"? I've only ever seen the 125 gram jar. My oscar, being the piggy that he is, makes it his business to not only eat all of the food I put in for him, but also makes an effort to eat the pleco's dinner as well! :smokey: I don't think I need to purchase the pail size, with only those 2 fish eating them. (Although if anyone in Calgary has a pail and they would be willing to sell me some that would be great too.) Thanks!

    New Here

:welcome: How about a pleco?........everyone should have a pleco
  4. Friend of mine has a 6 foot tank, unsure of the width, it's at least 2 feet tall.......... he paid $700.
  5. Hi everyone, I'm hoping a fellow CAS member can help me out. I tried to contact Connie with my membership questions, following the email link on the CAS website, but I received no response. Now she did say at the June meeting that my email address was no good, that the mails she sent me kept bouncing back to her. I don't know why it didn't work, everyone else emails me at that address. I would like to provide an alternate address, as I still haven't recieved my first Calquarium issue! (joined in April) Connie, are you a member here too? Can anyone else help me out ? Maybe ask Connie to call me? (I know I put my phone number down correctly on the membership form) Thanks, Stacey -ham- -ham- -ham-
  6. Another good fish store is Franco's. It's a small store, (about the size of Gold's) but with plenty of variety. It also (shouldn't be, anyway) too crowded. If you're looking to buy anything, Gold's seems to have the best prices, but Franco's is definately worth a look. Also (Franco's) is only a short drive from Pisces, if that helps in planning your trip.....
  7. Thanks for the link, Osprey! I will check it out now, (instead of working)
  8. Already got the NLS  What's the difference between a refractometer and a hydrometer?
  9. I am looking forward to the results, both of the survey and the mystery shopper bit. Thank you for taking this on......... it sounds like a lot of work!

    My Fish

    :welcome: to the forum!
  11. That's for all the great info.......... I think I'm leaning toward a species tank, I could probably go about a dozen in a 26 gallon tank.......... so can anyone recommend a formula of NLS? I've read that they also eat frozen foods........... what about a brand of marine salt?
  12. Great to hear that they are available!
  13. Cool! This thread is a great idea, I love seeing what you've got up next........... Keep up the good work
  14. I have decided I would like Bumblebee Gobies in my next tank........... still in the preliminary research stages.......... Does anyone know how readily available these are in Calgary? and approximate cost? Imperial says they have sold them before, could maybe get them in again, approximate cost --"under $10" (Well, I'd hope so, these fish are under 2 inches each!) Also any recommendations on filters for a brackish tank? (26 gallon) I've read that I should get a ...........you know --thing that measures the salinity in a saltwater tank.......... to accurately measure salinity, and that there are few plants that do well in a brackish tank, but I'm definately looking for any and all tips on brackish tanks in general. How about tankmates? Stocking density? I hope to have this tank running by September, still lots of work to do on existing tanks.......... Thanks, Stacey
  15. All I can suggest would be garlic............ hope your fish gets better.

    New Guy

WOW! Your tank looks amazing! I too have had fish about a year........... none of my tanks look like that.
  17. Cool idea, Taylor! I will be paying attention to your avatar now, will be interesting to see what else you come up with............. ........ all my pictures turn out the same, as in BLURRY, so I do enjoy looking at other peoples pictures, you know, one's in focus!

    Greetings

    :welcome: to the forum.
  19. Actually I think I just need to worry less! I found that even the tiniest babies seem to be heavier than the crud I'm siphoning up, and so with a lot of stopping and starting, I think I can clean the tank without removing the babies. I also discovered some larger babies in the other 10 gallon, the one that hasn't had any adult snails in it for quite a while. (some eggs I missed, obviously) They've been doing just fine eating whatever food that's in there, so I guess I don't have to worry about that either. Thanks!
  20. The Ramshorn Snails that Mathew gave me have bred! Actually they started to breed immediately, but I have culled some of the the egg sacks........ anyway, today I've noticed that the babies have now left there eggs. These little critters are very small, and still mostly transparent. What do I feed them? I've got a couple of plastic plants in there covered with algae, I haven't cleaned them because that's where the eggs were......... I'm thinking I should leave them in there as is for a food source.......... I've got some NLS fry food, but I think the pellets are too big. I've got flake food too. Next question....... how do I clean the tank without sucking up the babies? The only way I can think of is to run the end of the syphon into a fish net first and pick out any babies from the pile of snail poo and uneated food. (Won't that be fun........... must remember to trim fingernails before cleaning the tank.)
  21. Hi Dave, I suppose if some were sickly then they were all compromised............ mine were probably a different shipment. Good luck with the new ones, or whatever you decide. Stacey
  22. Nice Pinchy! I've always wanted one. How big is he?
  23. If you chose to get more Cardinals I'd recommend Pisces. I bought 6 a couple of months ago and they are all still doing well.......... and I put them into a brand new tank that I bought that day. (although I should also add that I used established media, gravel and water from another tank) They've also been through a move as I decided to switch them to the other 10 gallon with more plants and a lower pH. Anyway I suppose the point I'm trying to make is that I'm surprised that they are all still with me, as I've read so much about them being delicate. So either these fish (from Pisces) are hardier than usually found, or I'm a better fish keeper than I thought.
  24. How are the fishies now? Did everyone make it through ok?
  25. :welcome: Nice to meet you.
