  1. Dave. Dave here. NICE!!!!!!
  2. Welcome to the board. It's new, but is growing quickly. Best of all it's AlbertaAquatica.
  3. Welcome. There's a great group of people here. Enjoy.
  4. That would be a Microchromis Zebroides.
  5. Thought I'd try to help out if I could. Hope she makes it. As long as the eye heals. Even if it's lost, She'll be o.k to put back into your community tank. Just try to remove any sharp edges from your rocks. Keep us posted.
  6. Val. Do you have a quarentine tank. It would be cheaper, and more effective to isolate her. If you don't have a tank, I'm in N.E Calg. An I could probably lend you one. PM me and let me know. Good luck. Dave.
  7. They are quite easy. Just make sure to have a lot of hiding places. 2"ABS cut into 6" pieces works good to provide many cheap caves. Males have large extended claws, while females are shorter and more blunt. Females with eggs should be seperated as soon as you notice them. Have fun!
  8. Search for thumbnail maker on the net. Any freeware will work if you dont have any software at this time. It worked great for me. Good luck.
  9. I would agree with the microworms, for a start before brine napuli. You might want to get a mortor and pestil. You can grind good quality flake into a fine powder, instead of ordering from the U.S. Almost all of the foods available at Ken's in the states is available right here. I know I get them all. You just have to get 5 pounds minimum. If you want a fine powder try Cyclopeeze. Now available at Golds. Hope this helps. Dave.
  10. Looking for more bang for your buck. Check out bookcloseouts.com. All discontinued TFH books starting around $0.75 up. Lots to choose from on cichlids, and other fish. Also look for a dicount coupon to the sight in your search engine to save more$$$$ I brought in 35 books for around $80.00 Canadian, inc shipping. THEY CALL ME NEGAS ;-) I'll buy that for a dollar.
  11. Didn't see the price, but the ray's at Gold's are gorgeous. Denis is the man for rays, and he has had the most varied sellection, as well as the best quality I have seen in any stores. Check his website cichlids.ca. He has some pic's there.
  12. The main thing is if he is eating. If yes, just give him some time. You might want to add some salt to the tank. Just to help make sure he doesn't get an infection. Raising the water temp will also speed up the metabolism, thus he should heal faster.
  13. Make sure to find a place with a garage. lol.
  14. This is the place to be. Welcome. :welcome:
  15. Welcome aboard. Golds had some German blue, as well as some Microgeophagus in stock today. About $6 each. Good price.
  16. If you are interested in Cichlids, let me know. I sometimes make it out to winfield to visit family. Welcome abord.
  17. Hey K You just picked up those fish from a local breeder/friend. What are you feeding them. Some cheaper quality foods swell when ingested, thus the big concern of bloat. Might be the diet? I've seen it too many times, people having multiple cases of bloat. Then presto change-o, new/good food, no more bloat. I find good tank maintenance should eliminate most problems, and I try to avoid the use of medications if at all possible. Only as the Last resort! Most fish will still perish with severe problems. By the time you notice the problem it is usually too late, unless it's ich then heat 'n treat. Try to save the fish you have left. Good Luck, let us know. Dave.
  18. If you are going to attempt to get donations, try to have only one person contact the wholesaler's. It will look better for the group, rather than them being bombarded with multiple requests. Just so it wont mess things up for other groups in the city trying to do the same thing. January is a good time to try, as this is when donation amounts are aloted. Dave Freund. President TFBA.
  19. I've been using that material for years, and have never had a problem. The big sheets cut/tear to any size you need. Also works good to make replacements for penguin and other cartrige style filters, just tear of the old, and wrap a new piece in place over the plastic frame, and insert to hold in place.
  20. Hey C. Hows it going. The fish I picked up the other day are doing great. Just remember that with the 33gal tank you just picked up, you must also consider the size of the adult fish. 6 small fish will grow to 6 large fish in no time. Most of what your looking at will reach about 6", add a pleco and a couple of cats and your tank can get pretty crowded as they reach adult size. Just keep up on the water changes.
  21. If you have kids, I recomend a 20gal tank. Bargain finder is cheap. The Brichardi are one of the few fish that will actually raise multiple generations of young, all at the same time, and in the same tank. Keep this in mind, as they are a quite interesting. Later trade the larger offspring for food + Misc from your local PS. If overcrowding gets to be a problem, just don't feed them for a week. Problem solved. Just a thought.
  22. If you want to find frames, most of them come from All Glass Aquarium, out of the states. They have a website, just don't know it off hand. Once again the frame is usualy more expensive than the glass. Try the bargain finder and find a tank there. Might be less stress Good luck.
  23. Size of tank should not make much diff. I have found that water movement wil increase growthrate. The less a fish has to swim the slower it builds up body mass. Just like a body builder. Make them work and they will grow faster. Oh, as well. water change. water change. water change. water change.
  24. I think you should keep true strains, if you have them. Numbers are dissapearing in the wild every day. Soon it will be up to us hobbiests to supply most of the available fish, other than from fish farms. Quantities of wild fish being shipped are reduced yearly. The red tailed shark is extinct in the wild, but is still available to the hobby, thanks to the fish farms, as just one example. Don't get me wrong. Some of the nicest looking fish have been created by cross breeding for certain traits. Just look at guppies, angels, and discus, just to mention a few. In the hobby this is benificial for the re-sale of new more colorful fish. Everyone has an opinion on this matter. That is why I will always try to breed true. The most important thing you should try to do if you want to be a serious breeder, is not to keep inbreeding one generation after another. If you want to continue a strain, you should always be on the lookout for a new male, for all those little girls you must have around. Happy breeding!!!!
  25. Thanks for buying my fish. I feed a varried diet to all my Cichlids. As for bloat, I have had no problems since I quit using cheap food. Like dog food you can feed dog chow or technical. One's a little more money, but the end result is worth it. As well I also make my own food, and Import all my flake and pellet in bulk. Any other questions e-mail me. Same name at shaw.ca
