  1. Mine does that too. They also love swimming against the current created by the bubble wand. Crazy fish.
  2. Thanks for the compliments on my 60g. I think it is a little bare right now. I am sure over successive paydays that Henry will help me out with that little problem. Soo exciting! I have never had a tank so big! I can put so many fish in there! Getting me some German Rams!
  3. Sigh It was at night. I will try the slight downward angle. It does not help that my camera boasts a whole 2.0 megapixels.
  4. Pictures of my tank more pics 60g pride and joy. Walter's Home 5g Fry tank
  5. Thanks! I am lovin' the shrimp. It was a good buy!
  6. The female mentioned above is about an inch long. I think this might be her first batch. This is the first time I have ever kept them so I have no idea how long they hold the eggs.
  7. The largest of my cherry shrimp females is holding eggs! At least I think so. Under her tail is a mass of yellowish lumps.
  8. As a newbie to fish-keeping I find that I really like this addition to AA. Learning how experienced fish keepers can lose fish (sometimes very valued fish) makes my mistakes seem less stupid. (still pretty dumb sometimes) I have not been very "lucky" since taking up this hobby. I have seen dropsy, ich, and possibly gill flukes. I have had fish beat the life out of another fish. I have accidentally released fry into the main tank acting on bad advice of a website. They were eaten within seconds. Yet, somehow, I love this hobby. Reading the stories of the sad things that happen to everyone else's fish makes me think that sometimes things just happen. I will continue to try and learn everything about this hobby, prepare for any eventuality, but sometimes fish just die. That makes me feel a little better about the little deaths that have occurred in my living room. Thanks for sharing guys.
  9. That is a pretty fish, sorry to hear you stepped on it.
  10. There is a certain store at 90th st and 51 ave where you can trust the staff. Not even that far away from the one you mentioned.
  11. I usually keep it at 78F but right now it is higher because of the illness. Around 81F.
  12. That was awesome Hosstile. I am sure Mr. Poopee is honored by your remembrance.
  13. Fishies look sadder today. I whoopsed and dosed yesterday at full strength. They are still responding to food though. WAH
  14. I do have small houseflies! Not many, so I never really connected them to the worms in the tanks. There is not anything on the surface of the water but there was a small fly stuck under the canopy right before the last one I found. I hope the fish eat them good for all the worry those worms caused me! :chair:
  15. Good for you! Lots of love in your house.
  16. Did I forget to mention it was free-swimming? It seems that everything that happens to my tanks is caused by over feeding. Anyone want to train the newbie and invite me over to watch a fish feeding? I really have to get a handle on his. They were also tubular and had no appendages whatsoever.
  17. What's hydra and how do I kill it?
  18. I noticed just before the ACE meeting a wiggly transparent worm about 3/4 of a cm long. It was in my 5g fry tank. I fished it out and thought nothing of it. Then 2 days a go another little worm in my 29g tank, fished it out again thought nothing of it. (I should pay better attention to these things!) Just now I found another worm in my brand new 60g this one was bigger and disapeared before I could grab the net and fish it out. What is this? Please help. Could this be the source of my troubles in the 29g? I have been treating for ich for the last 2 days with super ich cure. Dammnit will I ever get this fishkeeping thing right? :boom:
  19. Congratulations Nick! Perhaps they will inspire the others to do the same.
  20. I will see if I can get the day off then let you know.
  21. Sometimes electric lights (especially florescent) will glow very slightly for a few seconds after they have been shut off. The often light blue glow is usually not noticed by anyone. If all of the other lights were off, however this tiny glow may be noticed. The surface of the water being agitated by bubble wands, filters etcetera may break up the light and make it look like lines or filaments. I could be completely wrong, but it's an idea.
  22. I added the ich cure at 1/2 dosage. The fish perked up right away and began swimming around. They are slightly more sluggish this morning. Hopefully they will all recover. They are eating, which I take as a good sign.
  23. I like the pretty blue. I don't want the moderators to have to work any harder. They have to make water changes too!
