  1. Thanks for the feedback everyone. This has helped greatly. ~~Ray~~
  2. I just recently had a brand new undergravel filter given to me, I have read an article that suggested they are not good to use. The article stated that tanks can crash very easily using an UGF. I was hoping to get some feedback from anyone that has used them, successfully or otherwise. My idea was to use the UGF on my 33 gal tank with a fluval 201 and an AG 20 Powerhead. ~~Ray~~
  3. I personally like the Venustus just because they are so unique looking. The males with the blue are amazing. In a 180 you could get a few of them for sure.
  4. we just used elastics to attach it to the intake. Worked really well.
  5. Before we setup a fry tank, we picked up some cheese cloth and attached it to the end of our intake. Prevents the fry from getting sucked up but doesn't reduce the intake flow. Worked real well for us.
  6. Congrats, I would be very interested in picking up 1 or 2 females for my son. We just recently lost his when the tank crashed. We had just picked up a really nice male to go with her, but now he's all alone and very sad.
  7. Thanks for the feedback guys. I didn't think it sounded right when I heard that I could leave the fry in the main tank. But I figured ask the experts they will know. And thanks again for the Eureka's Pop Eye.
  8. We got the male and female electric blues from Aquarium Enthusiasts, and the male seemed to be the only one interested in the female. The Eureka Red peacocks we just picked up and the female was holding when I brought her home. So I'm pretty sure they are not hybridized. I'm setting up a 20 gal fry tank as we speak, I didn't think the fry would do well if left in the community tank.
  9. Well it looks like I'm going to have some fry coming in about the next 3 weeks or so. I have an Electric Blue who's holding and a Eureka Red Peacock that appears to be holding. I have a question. Both females are in my community African tank, can I leave the fry in the tank with the rest of the community or should I put them into a different tanks? I've heard a few different views on this and would like some feedback. Any of the other fry I've had I've always moved, I was under the impression that the other tank mates would eat them. ~~~~Ray~~~~
  10. Since the tank will be in my living room, I don't want too much noise. I'm thinking that an FX5 and a Fluval 405 would be a good combination without having too much noise. Cost is going to be a small issue, the 210 gal with glass top, light and pine stand is 1300. But it will be a nice display tank once it's all done with sand and all the rocks.
  11. I will be moving my African cichlids over to this tanks. 3 Sunshine Peacocks, 2 pearlmutts, 2 electric blues, 1 Red Top Blue Cobalt, 1 Nyerere Hap, 1 Jewel Cichlid, 1 Blue colbalt, 1 Venustus, 1 Lemon, 1 Blue Socolifi. My Wife mentioned something about a sump system but neither of us know anything about them. Is there a good place to find out how to set one up?
  12. I thought so, I currently run two filters on all my tanks. So an FX5 and maybe a fluval 405 should keep it nice and clean. Thanks Sue.
  13. I'm just looking for some expert advise. I currently have 2 - 55 gal and 1-33 gal all running Aqua Tech filters. I am buying a 210 gal in the very near future and want to get an FX5 for it. I've never had a canister type filter, but what I've read about them the FX5 seems really good. I'm just want to make sure that one is enough for a tank that size. I started my first tank just over a year ago, so I'm learning as I go. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  14. In my African tank, I have (sorry haven't learned all the scientific names) 3 Sunshine Peacocks, 2 pearlmutts, 2 electric blues, 1 Red Top Blue Cobalt, 1 Nyerere Hap, 1 Jewel Cichlid, 1 Blue colbalt, 1 Venustus, 1 Lemon, 1 Blue Socolifi. Our other tank has a Albino Veil Tail Oscar, and 3 blood parrots. It's been a learning experience that's for sure. I got my fist tank ever about 15 months ago.
  15. I have a common pleco in my 55 gal community African tank, and he's done well. He does produce a lot of waste though. Mine was added when I first setup my tank about 15 months ago and he was only about 2 inches then. He's now closer to 10 - 12 inches and doesn't get bothered by any of my cichlids. He does spend a good part of his time attached to the bottom of the rocks. His Tank mates: 1 Firemouth 1 Blue Socalofi 1 Red Zebra 1 Nyerere Hap 1 Venustus 1 Powder Blue Cichlid 1 Red top Blue Cobalt 1 Jewel
