  1. Anybody know what fish these are? they bred in one of the pond aquarium and they gave me two fry...they really did not want it! JS
  2. Is it possible to keep a brown crayfish with a 4-5 inch senegalus and two 2-3 inch chana bleheris? if not...what is a good bottom feeder? Thx...JS
  3. yeah its the same tall 16 oz skinny bottle of melafix pond...great deal!
  4. love the marking...nice colouration... JS
  5. now the pink con has abandoned her unfertilized eggs and they are starting to turn white...should i leave it in there and something will eventually eat it...or should i remove it...will be a pain in @$$ but if i have to i will! JS
  6. CHeck GCS...the pond melafix is only 13 dollars as oppose to 23 dollars in petland it is 5x stronger than regular so calculate accordinly!!! JS
  7. While doing a water change, i thought i saw my cons eating the wrigglers so i panicked and syphoned them out...i did not know what to do so since my pink con spawned but was not fertilized, i thought i might be able to make her think its her own... i dropped the wrigglers using a dropper and she immediately started pick them off and put them in her pit! it worked!!! next thing i know she dug another pit to relocate them...YES it worked!!!! So i also tried putting some of the wrigglers back with the original parents (they were not eating them...i just panicked!!!) they accepted them back...now i have 20-30 frys with the pink con and 50 or so with the biological pair... JS
  8. I guess you can make a big batch and give it out...help out other hobbyist! You dont have to make a big batch...just enough for u to use..ie. the smaller size melafix bottles... JS
  9. The pond melafix is 5 percent and the regular one is one percent...so u end up adding less melafix in your tank since it is stronger! I have been using it for a while now. Someone in this forum also created his own melafix out of tea tree oil (100%) and water...just do the calculations whether you want it 5 or 1 percent...however, the oil tends to float in water so shake well before dispensing...or if you really want to "dissolve" it, use gum arabic so it will mix with water...you can buy gum arabic on ebay... I have not tried the gum arabic way so please use on "test" fish first!!!! That is the only thing i have found that would mix oil with water...melafix obviously dont have it on their label... JS
  10. What do u mean by free swimming? some look like they are just wriggling on the bottom, some are in the middle of the water... They still look like they still have their yolk sac... Thx. for your help... JS
  11. WEll, I was doing a water change in my cons tank...I looked inside the pot and it looked like that they were starting to eat their babies...they were not spitting them out...so I panicked and syphoned 80 per cent out. Now they are in a rubbermaid container with airstone...the parents stillh have some in there and they seemed to have relaxed after the water change... Question...what can i do with the wigglers...they look like mini tadpoles just "swimming" aimlessly...Can i still save them? Please help!!! JS
  12. yup they are freshwater...usually petsmart carries them...pisces and riverfront in calgary...
  13. Just a single puff. they make a lot of mess...two would be pushing it...more waterchange would be needed...i say two max...IMO. Do 50 percent change once a week...lots of plants and caves to hide... JS
  14. Go with a planted tank with dwarf puffers...very personable and loves to beg for food...dont need to worry about teeth growth as much as the other bigger puffers. They love planted tanks and lots of hiding places, fully FW species, and u can maybe go with one puff, one bottom cleaner such as an otocinclus (sp?) ...ghost shrimps are "iffy" just because each puffer has its own personality...they are notorious fin nippers but there are the odd ones that are just friendly. NO crayfish with puffs...ended up eating my puff when it was sleeping! JS EDIT: check this out...this is a 5 gallon planted tank with Dwarf puff.... http://www.dwarfpuffers.com/images/5gal.jpg
  15. How long is the whole "wriggler" stage. When do they become free swimming? JS
  16. Well, i got wrigglers! Hopefully they dont eat them! Edit: Well now I have a barely one inch pink con that just spawned...I dont think it will got fertilized though cuz she is in there with a BP...oh well too bad! JS
  17. will try the temp and salt first then...thanks!
  18. What temp do u keep you bleheri's???
  19. Okay...now I have a new question...my male seems to have a couple of white specks on his face...not sure if its ich yet...but let say it is..., is it okay to add ich med with the eggs...or should i wait? thanks...JS
  20. Okay...they laid eggs...it does not look like a lot maybe 50 or so. They are very protective...there is always one guarding another... hope they dont eat them! Chums: Thanks for the pair of cons! JS
  21. Damn I have never heard a puffer blowing up after puffing...good luck with him or her! Melafix should be good! JS
