  1. Welcome to AA, Ian.
  2. Like the others said.......it should be fine. As long as the integrity of the silicone has not been somehow compromised, leaks aren't a concern. The chip looks fairly insignificant and likely won't affect structure or load-bearing capacity at all. Funny, I've owned a few Wal-Mart specials over the years and it always seems to be one flaw or another. The last was a 10-gallon that had front glass that bowed out nearly 1/2".
  3. Good answers from other members. My Magnum HOT 250 used to do the same thing frequently. I couldn't get it to stop no matter what I did. As indicated it is likely more disconcerting than harmful. Have you tried contacting your local Hagen representative? They may be able to add some insight. Keep us posted.
  4. It looks good. Way to go, Chris!
  5. Awesome job, Connie! Keep the pics coming.
  6. Excellent workmanship. If you do manage to find the build-up photos, feel free to add them. I'm sure some of our members would like to see how you go from zero to the finished product. Very nice!
  7. Hey Tanker, How did your experiment work out? I have used "Limo Black" window tint and really liked the look but, it can be a royal pain to work with. Trapped air bubbles will totally ruin the appearance.
  8. Besides simple water flow, you can use these powerheads to add aeration, or add a quick filter attachment for reliable mechanical filtration. To my knowledge, hobbyists that associate powerheads with small sumps are generally using them inside the sump to oxygenate the water that is pumped back to the main tank. Doc

    Heaters

Don't count out Petsmart either. They carry a series of Rena heaters for small tanks that are well priced, too. Doc
  10. Is there anyone out there that has some experience with water softeners and could provide a response for Dave?
  11. Hey degrassi, I've always used the Intermatic DT-17 (digital/programmable) timers. I got them at Home Depot for about $10-12 each. They run on a watch battery, and I have never had any problems with reliability. They are grounded (3-prong) as well. Bonus --> They are really easy to program. Let us know which way you decide to go.
  12. -05- Hmmmm............Scrappy............Appropriately named. Just kidding, Holly! Welcome aboard.
  13. That's the same sand I always used Neil. Awesome stuff. Looks natural and tank clears fast after filling. No problems with clouding when stirred up either.

  16. Nice looking fish Gina.
  17. A co-worker of mine has a Betta Splendens (not sure what variety). She was telling me that when they first brought it home it was midnight black. It has since completely lost it's black pigment and is a sickly pink/white color. Funny thing is the fish is healthy. It is sociable and still has a hearty appetite. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Any idea what could have caused it? I found it a little puzzling when she said she uses "filtered" water (from a water cooler) for his bowl.
  18. I think that's it JHG. They changed the appearance of the site, but I think it's the same person(s) I was thinking of. Thanks much!
  19. While researching Canadian (on-line) cichlid breeders some time ago, I stumbled across a site from a business based in Ontario. It appeared to be a home-based operation of some kind, belonging to some guy who started out as a hobbyist. Several months and two PC crashes later, I am having one helluva time trying to locate this site again. :boxed: HELP! :boxed: I wish I could provide more details, but I just can't at the moment. Doc
  20. Hey Gang, I'm still trying to decide on what species to put in my 120. I love Mbuna and plan to make them the primary occupant. I have decided that I would like to have a large group (15-20) of blue/black Mbuna as my base colony. I am thinking (in order of preference): 1) P. Demasoni 2) M. Cyaneorhabdos 3) Elongatus Chewere These would be complimented by L. Cauruleus, M. Estherae, or L. Fuelleborni with OB females and G. Acei to fill the upper water column. Can I get your suggestions as to which blue/black species would likely work best in such a scenario. As well, is there a Hap species that would thrive in this mix? Fryeri maybe? What are your thoughts? Doc
  21. Well written and well said, Chris. You've got my full support on this issue. To those who do have paid ads running on the site..........Thanks for the support!
  22. Hey Darcy, Have you thought about dyeing your intakes black with Rit dye? Apparently it works awesome on PVC, so I would think it would work for you. Rather inexpensive experiment if nothing else.
