  1. The white on the tail and sometimes on the fins will dissappear as the fish matures. I've had tons of them that looked like that and I thought I had something else until they grew up a bit.
  2. Take a close up shot of the tank, and the plant will look huge. Then you can say it's in a 90.
  3. It sounds like you have a pair. The best way I have found to spawn them is get a 2.5 to 10 gal tank, the ten would be a better choice. Fill it with 6 inches of fresh dechlorinated water,no gravel (bare bottom) put lots of floating plants in for the female to hide, have an air stone or sponge filter in one corner running very slow as not to create much turbulance, use a submersable heater to keep the water temp at a steady 80 degrees, cut a styrofoam coffe cup or small plate in half and float it upside down in the other corner for the male to build his nest. When he is done he will attempt to bring the female over for inspection of the nest. If she is ready to spawn and likes the nest she will allow him to go ahead. When they spawn the male will wrap himself around the female and sqeeze the eggs from her as he fertilises them, he will then release her and pick the eggs up and put them in the nest.CAUTION,the female will look like she is dead after he releases her and start to sink to the bootom (this is normal). The spawning may take several hours, but when they are done it is best to remove the female and let dad do his job. Hatching will take place in 36 to 48 hours, after about 2 days when the fry become free swimming (very small and hard to see)the male can also be removed and they can be fed. Infusoria is the best, but the yolk of a hard boiled egg squeezed through the mesh of a clean cloth will also work (very messy) or very fine ground flake or fry food works too, feed at least 3 times a day. You can slowliy increase the amount of water in the tank 1/2 to 1 gal a day until the tank is full. You will have to do 90% water changes daily to clean up uneaten food and the fry will release a hormone into the water so they don't outgrow their surrounding. Hope this helps and good luck.
  4. More to the size they can grow up to be.
  5. I have plants and Co2 also, I use 2 canisters with spraybars, 1 at 2 inches below the surface pointed toward the front and 1 at 1 inch above the substrate pointed up and slightly forward to create a rolling effect in the tank. I run my Co2 at 6bbls/sec 24/7 and never had a shortage of oxygen. On a side note, If you don't have plants and like watching bubbles put the air stone in.
  6. If you are looking for the big huge angels, that would be the altum. Usually have to get them wild unless someone is breeding them. Depending on tank size, water conditions and so forth they will grow very large. I would'nt keep more than 2 in a 140 gal tank, with triple the filtration capacity and at least 50% W/C every week.
  7. That is one UGLY trout. Would not look good on the wall at all.
  8. The kribs you have are Pelvicichromis pulcher, they are the fry from the last spawn my pair had before I gave them away to a friend after the tank they were sprung a leak and I had no place or extra tank to put them in.
  9. I have the tank to the point that it's pretty much maintainance free except for water changes and rubbing some dust algae off the glass every now and then. Some of them might show up at the auction, but I have to thin out the rest of the jungle first and if I have any more spaces left I will add some of them.
  10. They are a chinese knock off of the marineland filter, but work the same. I have the EFU-45 with built in UV, It's been running for 5 years without any problems. I have bio-balls in the 2 bottom trays, ceramic rings in the third tray, and a sponge in the top tray. I have mine on a 72 gal planted with an old school fluval 303 and I only clean them out once or twice a year. I have'nt replaced so much as an O-ring on mine and it still runs quiet and no leaks.
  11. Sorry pics are not great but had to shrink them so much.
  12. I'm cleaning out some of my jungle. Will be bringing plants, some common and some not so common.
  13. Got some crappy pics this morning. Will try again to see if I can get a better one later, if not I will post the crappy ones.
  14. I have re-sealed tanks anywhere from 5 gal. to 140 gal. I let them sit untouched for 4 to 5 days, give it a quick rinse and fill them up. Out of all the tanks I've done I only sprung a leak once on a 33 gal about 6 months after it was set up (tank went off level). I have also made caves and decorations using silicone and put them in the tank after 24 hrs with no issues.
  15. I usually fill the canister with water, take the intake hose off at the U tube that goes into the tank, fill that up with water and hook it back up. Then plug it in and give the canister a b*tch slap or two to knock out air bubbles and away she goes, it allways works for me. I have 3 of the old school fluval 303's, and that's how I get them going.
  16. I have been trying to get a good pic, I might have to get one some time between 4 and 7am. Any other time I get too many reflections, and during the day is out of the question as the whole tank pearls about 2 hours after the lights come on and all you see in the pics is bubbles. All the lights come on full bore at the same time, I'm running them from 8 to 8 now and in about a month I will change that to 9 to 9. The plantlets started to form pretty quick. As soon as the shoot formed a node the plantlets started to grow leaves, the main shoot is about 4 ft long and the others are about 3 ft. I never let it emerge out of the water, the tank has a closed canopy on it and the lights sit about 1 inch above the water. It has no choice but to stay submerged.
  17. About a month ago my amazon sword fired up a shoot that soon became three shoots. Just did a count on the planlets on the shoots, I have a total of 22 plantlets and thats not counting the shoots that have come off of 3 of the planlets. 2 of them have a shoot with 2 plants on them and 1 has a shoot with 1 plant for a grand total of 27 amazon sword plants ranging from 1 inch to 4 inches, all have good roots growing on them. The most I have ever got off of this plant is 5 plantlets. Has this plant become a total freak of nature or am I doing something right for once. Tank is 72 gallons with 2X39 watt T-5 6700k 1X39 watt T-5 12,000k and 1X96 watt 6700k coralife (total 3.2 WPG) on 12hrs/day. Co2 at 6bbl/sec 24/7 with medium fish load, fed once a day what can be consumed in 2 min or less. No ferts except mother natures special blend of fish crap.
  18. The plants I gave you are samolus valerandi (water rose) and staurogyne sp.(type of dwarf hygro, max hieght 1 to 1.5 inches) spreads out to a thick carpet.
  19. I don't know about Calgary, but Trident whole sale in Edmonton carries both of those.
  20. Home depot, Rona, Totem. Any one of them should carry it. You might want to check out Peavy mart rite there in Westlock.
  21. I'll be bringing what ever plants I can pull out of my jungle. Will have a few not so common ones.
  22. ID sharks will hit the 12 inch mark in a 90 gal in about 6 months. If I were you I would take them back to the LFS and get something else. There are a lot of colorful and active community fish to choose from that you will be able to stock your tank with.
  23. Back in the day when dinosaurs roamed the earth, the basic rule was 1 inch of fish per gal or 4 inches of fish per square foot of surface area. However this was for a basic community tank and/or spieces tanks with minimum filtration. Example: A 50 gal tank with a filter rated for 50 gallons would not be an ideal set up to put 50 1 inch fish in it.Like mentioned in punmans reply, it all boils down to filtration, spieces, compatability, and maintenance as to what size of tank and what fish you will stock the tank with. Find the fish you like, and then research them for compatability, max size of each fish, and size of tank recomended. Then get a tank 3 to 4 times the size recomended and filtration for 3 to 4 times the size of the tank.
  24. Anytime I have cycled a tank using fish, I would feed once a day just what they will eat in 1 to 2 minutes and do a 25% water change every second to third day depending on what the tests were reading. If I would have known you were going to set the tank up and put fish in rite away, I would have given you a bit of swamp water (filter sponge squeezed into a bag)to pour into your filter.
