  1. Yep, Jason nailed it, i've had problems with mollies in the past as they didn't like the lack of salt content, and it seemed to bother some of my other fish, so not sure if it has happened to other people. However one thing about AB tap water is that total dissolved solids is a bit high ( well for me anyways ), and it hold back a bit of breeding.
  2. I've heard of people using taps to throttle down the flow on eheims. As for lighting, i would try CF retrofits in the hood, as 13w's i believe are only 9 inches long, so there's a possibility there , with multiple 13w bulbs. 28w Bulbs are a bit longer i believe. Just saw the pics .. nice ! I like it !
  3. Haha, hope you get it all figured out sooner or later, but a large school of tetras in a nicely planted tank is truly breathtaking. It looks really, really nice, along with the suppoorting cast of the fish. By the way : Saw you pop into the chatroom last night .
  4. Mollies won't work, they require harder water with a higher PH, than all the other fishes you've chose. Anyways as for the tetras i think a single uniform school looks better, i would take either neons or the rummies ( me personally rummies ), hwoever if you go with both possibly 30 of each would look nice. Cories ... i don't know i like the hastatus and habrosus . Nice choice on the gouramis .. go with around 10 ? Angels .. i would say a pair or two pairs. Hmm this large tank is gonna turn out goood with all the thought you're putting into it. Keep it up!
  5. WPG, is a guideline. It's hard to gauge with all the lights out today. But .. T5HO with individual reflectors ... that is some powerful lighting. It obliterates the WPG rule .. which is based off old flourescent guidelines, your 3.6 could be = 5 wpg with T5HOs. But hell, you have pressurized CO2, your plants will love you (alot).
  6. Powerheads + sponges. It's easier than the mattenfilter, and easier to clean. Less surface area, but it works, and it's easy to clean. Can double as CO2 injection for those planted tanks.
  7. Though most people i find with ADA tanks buy them because they love hte looks, and want to do something nice with them. I've never seen an ADA tank with fake plants or anything non-hardcore in them before to be honest. However some people who spent out on a full ADA set are just pure idiots ( $200 desklamp anyone? ) The whole rimless look to tanks is getting really popular. Lots of companies seem to be picking up on it. Heck i'm sporting a rimless 7.2g from Aquarium Illusions myself.
  8. We have a water softener, they turn the water into crap for plantedaquariums as far as i've experienced. Hell everytime i do water changes now i have to steal the nieghbors hose when they aren't looking. It replaces nutrients for sodium, which is detrimental for the plants, not sure what sodium does, all i know is you'll have to fertilize that much more.
  9. Back from vacay, and he did a huge trim KILLING THE TREE from today: HC retied riccia
  10. Shrimp depend on the fish. I would say try for a zebra snail.
  11. It's only 12" wide. So not really that wide.
  12. I'll make sure i make the parking worthwhile. Though being parked, the gravel and the rocks will remain in here. I just need to raid if of it's plants. I'd like to get more rocks in there and eventually restart it sometime.
  13. Depends on your cost restraints. Best bang for buck for a tank that size is a rena XP3 or XP4 in terms of canisters.
  14. Why thank you! Still haven't filled this tank yet, not planning too, probably going to shut it down, and put all my efforts into an uber 33g instead of the halfassed effort i put into it, and into this. This tank will go into storage or for sale, but it's a really nice tank itself so probably will go into storage. I hope to hone my skills enough to be able to enter into a contest one day! Hemianthus callitrichoides, there's also Glossostigma elatinoides in there now, and eleocharis parvula. EDIT: I'll keep up with updates for the other two tanks on here though ! (:
  15. Nothing doing exceptionally well in this tank at the moment. Thikning of a redo, though i'd need to have a place for the fish for awhile. That or buy a new unscratched 33g ( this is scratched up pretty bad ), and get to work. I want it to be stem free. Probably a nice glosso, hairgrass, HC mixed carpet , but aside from that i want to rely on java ferns ( got tons of this stuff now ), anubias ( all sorts, i only have nana at the moment) , and pellia ( since moss needs trims). http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/tank-jou...ada-90p-19.html is the source of my inspiration. relatively low maintenance. Also an eheim 2234 + a mj400 think it'll be adequate? Stock should remain the same: 2 x Angels 1 x Gold Gourami 1 x Dwarf gourami 10+ x White Cloud Mountain Minnows 2 x Stragglers (Red tail Tetra that i've had for almost 3 years now, and a Pearl Danio) 2 x oto 1 x BN pleco 1 x Peacock Gudgeon 1 x Zebra Nerite Snail
  16. Heard it was a waste . And that their quality has dropped off since then. If you want plants, go see natures, they do special orders too. Also check with our other sponsor TNT Aquatica, he's got nice selection, and might be able to do special requests.
  17. It's really good stuff. I made a really really small portion for a 10g for a friend. It's the best stuff, and cheap to make. Loaded with ferts, isn't overkill, just a bit messy to work with if you pull out your plants alot. As for 3m colourquartz no clue. I just cap with cheap daark gravel from whereever.
  18. If planted i'd have an internal on the inside with a CO2 line going in as backup filtration ( which is what i have a powerhead for ) And then a primary filter - EX AC50, or XP2 for a tank that size.
  19. Also i believe you have posted in the wrong section again.
