It is the Mascara Barbs for sure. I know from experience. I have 12 of them. I had a beautiful 90 gallon planted tank and put them in when they were about 1/2 inch and in about 3 months they developed a liking to my plants. Within about 2 weeks all of my plants were gone. My dad had some as well at the same time however he didn't have as many plants but they did a number on them. I still have mine and they eat everything except for my Hygrophila difformis. They even eat my anubias and Bolbitis heudelotii, and Java fern and even mosses. Good luck catching those buggers as they are fast and I had a hell of a time catching them in my 90 gallon. I had mine in with flasher barbs they were easy to catch in comparison. If you want more let me know. They are like lawnmowers on steroids. Sean

It sounds like said above that the sponge is dirty and therefore clogged. I rinse mine out in a bucket of tank water and keep using them until they get clogged more frequently then I replace them. Also using a sponge that has bigger wholes will help this matter. I have bought two different kinds from aquaclear one kind has fine wholes and the other has larger wholes. I cheat and look in the packaging before I buy them. It could just be older stock but I have had success over the years being able to get both. I also use a weight on top of my aquaclears. I would uggest a piece of slate or something flat that doesn't take your eye away from the tank when you or company our enjoying watching your fish. Sean

You can always zip tie a wooden dowel to the end of the vaccuum and let hang about 4 inches below so youcan agitate the sand but won't suck alot of it up.

Thanks the algae isn't to bad just on the glass and the slow growing plants such as the crinum and the anubias in the back.

It has been up for 3 years now. However I did a major over haul over the Christmas break and changed out the gravel to this. I put in a substrate heater and one cm layer of Red Sea plant substrate and then another layer of seachem Black sand Flourite and then put regular black sand over that as the Seachem seemed to not be completely black. It had some white and gray in it. I even rinsed it heavily. I wasn't happy with the look so I added the regular black sand. So I guess everything has been up for a year now. It has only been this full for a couple of month now. In the new year I will probably start CO2 on it. Just have to save up for the system. I changed out the the substrate because I was having a hard time growing most plants in it. It was crushed granite and wasn't easy to deal with.

Thanks It is Crinum calamistratum. I am just waiting for my red lotus bulbs and my barclaya longifoilia to fill in to give some more color. I just finished trimming the Lotus as it had lily pads all over the surface.

Heavily planted with lots of depth. It is probably half to 3/4 quarters of the way there. I am just letting it fill in now with the odd change here and there.

This is my attempt at a planted tank. No CO2 currently just ferts every so often. Around 3 watts per gallon. I am going for more of a Dutch style look. Thanks for looking Sean

I know someone who works next door to concept and they are clearing everything out to make room for a new business. the owner is staying put but investing in something different than aquariums and this kind of business. these guys did a very good job and it is sad to see them get of it. however I know they will be successfull in their new industry.

Nature's Corner is the best place to buy plants from. They are alot cheaper than Big Als and have better quality plants as well. They are one of the sponsors on this forum just look them up for an address. They aren't to far from Big als. Sean
