  1. its terribly easy and fun to do it yourself. not to mention the big bucks you just saved! if anyone else wants to try thier carpentry skills out, i have a bunch of pre-made stand frames for 3,4 and 6 foot long tanks. thier all 2x4 msr rated(2100) if ya know lumber thats the best cut of 2x4 you can buy and built with gang nails (truss plates) i work at a local truss plant and made a bunch of these frames up a while ago and will prob never use them. if anyone is interested you can have them, no charge. i'll even help you put it together for a small fee (beer).
  2. does anyone have a better way to replace the sponges in a fx5 besides dropping 30 bones on new ones? thier has to be another product that will work just as well and half as cheap? anyone?
  3. has anyone recently purchased a big-@$$ (220-500gal) acrylic? what kind of price range? and from where? and i still did'nt hear an answer to the kia-mercedies comment... waiting.... :drunk: :chair:
  4. thats a nice piece ya built there. simple to build, and verry easy on the eyes. and it truly is YOURS. good job!
  5. i have an fx5 on a 33 with 50 hap moori (2-4') and they love it. can NEVER have to much filter
  6. do yourself a favour, take that filter, and smash it! :chair: . rid yourself of that piece of crap as quick as you can!!! :chair: :chair: even on my small tanks i build my own trickle filter out of a 10-33 gal tank and buy an overflow box and a mag drive and voila! the simplest, most reliable, easiest to maintain, most efficiant filter you can own. i gave up on fluval years ago,and havent missed em one bit! :drunk:
  7. twenty bucks plus shipping and its yours. shipping shouldent be to bad, your just next door
  8. my fx5 does the same thing. good 'ol fluval! :chair:
  9. half cool and half stupid. how do you fill it up with water?
  10. i go to rally glass. south of yellowhead and about 68'ish st. verry resonable and fast
  11. i'd love to know what the two acrylic companys quoted you for such a monstrosity. and what thickness are they talkin?
  12. just came back from a boarding trip to lake louise. thier expanding the transcan just outside of louise. the roadcrew said i could help myself to all the slate and chunks of slate i wanted,it was headed for the rockcrusher anyways. it goes as far as the eye can see. not sure if its legal even though they said i could, but, it sure looks good in my tanks! :ph43r:
  13. 1800 gal? fully automated? sounds like a mickey-mouse operation. OBVIOUSLY, im kidding. your an inspiration to us all. just the fact you would even try such a feat says you have huge berries. do everyone a favour, pictures, pictures, pictures. you have us all intrigued with the size and technology behind your project. so document the hell out of the build. did you get any cost estimates on the tank itself? this is an undertaking of mamoth preportions, GOOD FOR YOU!
  14. well researched and spoken rd. minimum prices? bs!!! OVER-inflating the price of thier own product is more like it.just cause its 'legal'(at least for now)dosent make it right! in my opinion, hagen are nothing more than gangsters. thank god for guys like frank. i love the idea of an anti-hagen superthread.it would be the bigest thread this site has ever seen.anyone?(anyone wana chance getting thier hand slaped by a mod?) you pissed off a few to many people this time hagen! LETS FIGHT!! :drunk: :boxer: :boxer: :boxer: :boxer: :boxer:
  15. you would think your buying quality when you buy coralife, especially when you pay TWICE as much as the competition. its a brandname that i avoid cause of the quality, or lack there of. :boxer: dont believe the hype! :drunk:
  16. snaggle, your running twelve tanks off just 2 diaphram pumps? wow! you  are the KING of effiencey!.. back to the question, you can buy a mother of all air pumps and run all your tanks, sponge filters and air wands or stones (can never have to much oxygenation!) the more bubbles, the better! i (like most hobbyist's) own 'the pump' they come in many sizes(cfm's) but they can be hard to find and expensive when ya do. i have a 'gull' pump id sell ya for cheap. its a little loud but it pushes LOTS of air. lemme know if your interested  :drunk:
  17. thats a GREAT looking stand ya built james. ya did a really good job. im a wood guy through and through and work with it all day long. it can be STRONGER than steel when used right. its all in your preferance, wood is cheaper and easy to assemble (a drill and screws) if you have a welder and KNOW how to use it,power to ya. it boils down to personal preferance. build whatever kind of stand YOU want, its going in your house! :chair:  :drunk:
  18. those are some killer pics dude. you should give lessons on photography. how many fry do you guestamate? everyone take notes, THATS how to take pics! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!
