  1. [You can search for this particular product... http://www.animart.com/product.php?product...925&cat=167 Many online pet medicine stores have it,,, I think it was like 14$ and you barely have to use any and the worms just fall right out
  2. Does this permantly raise the KH or do you have to keep adding?
  3. Where can you get those metal check valves..I understand the plastic ones are not co2 friendly?
  4. How do you keep your kh above 4 ?? baking soda way or is there a different fix? The charts aren't always accurate since they're based on the assumption that carbonate is the only buffer in the water. Use them as a guide only. It's also best to keep your KH above 4 degrees. The natural biological processes in your tank can produce acids and also deplete the KH. If you KH is too low in the first place, there may not be enough buffering to prevent a pH crash. How do you keep your kh above 4 When you test your tank water for the initial pH, make sure you aerate it first to drive off any existing CO2 so you get an accurate starting point. Also, if you happen to be testing your tapwater, make sure you aerate it very well. Water treatment facilities add CO2 to the water to prevent scale build-up in the pipes. Most of all, go slowly at first. Start on the low side of 20-30ppm, and keep an eye on the fish.
  5. I have the instructions for the ph monitor just not for the electronic c02 regulator So far I have tested my Kh it is at 60 kh or 3.3 degrees .. my gh is 180 ph was 6.4... ( recalibrated the moniter and it dropped 4 degrees ,, so it should come back up.... I figure from the charts I need 6.8 ph with 3.3 kh to get around 20 ppm co2? Yes it is at 6.4 and i have it at 6.8 and the co2 shut off along with the reactor water pump.. Here are the instructions... http://www.milwaukeetesters.com/pdf/SMS110-SMS120-SMS122.pdf You can test the controller with a glass of tap water. Just dip the electrode in. The ph should be higher and the solenoid should open and allow CO2 into the tank. The cord for the CO2 solenoid must be plugged into the pH controller. Make sure the CO2 is being shut off by turning up the dial until the gas stops flowing. I have used the same controller for all most a year with no problems.
  6. there was no screw on the back they must have removed it so I just skipped that step anyway
  7. yep i calibrated it to 7.0 it was at 6.9 and has dropped to 6.8 in the tank It is this regulator http://www.AquariumPlants.com/PhotoDetails...ductCode=PR4026 http://www.AquariumPlants.com/product_p/pr4026.htm
  8. I purchased a Electronic Co2 Regulator with a ph monitor,,, Of course they forgot to send me the instructions with it.. The tank is a 75 gallon bowfront I have 4 x 65 pc lighting Presently I have it set at 6.7 ph on the monitor,, the tank is at 6.9 So as i figure until it reaches 6.7 it will still allow itself to produce c02 anything below 67 it will shut itself off.. This means I can let it run through the night and not put it on a timer with the lights? Right now it is set to produce co2 bubbles every 3 seconds,,,, Does everything seem to be right>??
  9. Where abouts is this located
  10. I have never seen this yet ...but 1 female and 2 males were guarding the eggs and the 2 males were both fertilizing them but not chasing one another off... The eggs did not last long as the female had supper pretty shortly after... Did not think I would see that happen... Has Anyone else seen this happen?
  11. They are having there grand opening in Calgary... Does any one know or tried to see if the Edmonton store will price match the calgary prices?
  12. hi welcome What kind of africans do you keep?
  13. Has anyone mixed or for see a problem with having Acei, PSEUDOTROPHEUS SOCOLOFI albino , and afro cobues in the same tank?
  14. I personally don't see the point of packing too many cichlids in a tank just to curb their aggression. But to each their own. I don't think anyone ever said it curbs it... Just spreads it around.
  15. I think all new tanks go in the Basement! Made big mistake yesterday, I moved some fish.. I transitioned them for 30 mins but found them dead today There was a 10 degree temperature difference between the tanks.. I guess another lesson learned.. I can see why the LFS carry limited number of fish in august.... sucks
  16. I think that is general and maybe more dependent on the type of fish , tanksetup and bioload. On a mbuna tank heavily stocked I dont think this minimal canister cleanings applies. If someone can prove that canister cleanings are only to get good flow... and not something that can make nitrate spike clue me in.
  17. I think the prefilter helps alot.... "One doesn't usually think of nitrates spiking. Nitrates usually just accumulate if not removed with water changes." I agree but think a DIRTY filter is a timebomb...Especially with alot of sponges in it...I have heard talk of no sponges and just biomax and thorough water changes . The problem I think is correcting the problem to quickly, sounds like if they 're use to toxic water... Getting clean water to quickly is more toxic to them then when they were in the high nitrate situation.
  18. I have been told numerous times and have read that it is not neccessary to clean your filter till water flow is affected. I am not sure about this as would not waste build up in the cannister? Would this not cause your nitrates to spike? My water changes the water comes out clean and the sand has no noticeable refuge on it. I was checking the water parameters and the nitrate was quite high. So I ripped apart the filter and it was extremely dirty yet the water flow remained. Some one even told me that as long as water was coming out it was fine? Would this just be the case in cannisters where people run no sponges in it? Just curious as how others gauge when to do filter maintenance?
  19. The order arrived today. Was shipped from Sioux Falls SD on monday night, and made it here by noon on thursday. They're all alive! =). I don't own any import certificate and it did make it here. Didn't pay any extra for a phyto. Not sure why they arn't using their winnipeg distribution centre. I was told by the company that they ship that way because UPS told them it would be better. So far I have found that is was a bad choise and they should go back to the old way. what were the shipping charges on 300 $ worth of plants? I was looking at a regulator and thought I might order some plants also and It said shipping was a hundred some dollars.....
  20. Is Aquatic Plants Unlimited, 7010-105 Street, T6H 2P1 Edmonton, Alberta 780-439-6599 a retail store?
