  1. What about inverts? Could there be copper leaching that would poison them? there is no copper in it, it is just the slag leftover from the refining of copper ore. here is the msds for it...they say it is stable. http://www.sil.ab.ca/MSDS/Kleen-Blast-MSDS-003.pdf
  2. Well i picked up a bag of copper slag(the smallest grain size they had) from sil industries just for fun. i am curious to try it, it looks just like black sand , maybe a little more angular, it is supposedly chemically inert. Has anyone actually used it before? I am getting conflicting info on the web.any comments on the stuff would be appreciated.
  3. Thanks Ted. Do you think it would suffice if I was to keep the bioload at a lower level? I missed out on the 20$ aquaclear 70's from Big Al's not too long ago. Agh! it will suffice for now in my opinion....i had the larger one on my first fish tank too. it does get expensive buying the media inserts all the time. i eventually switched all my filters to aquaclears and then to cannisters on my big tanks. just keep your eyes peeled on here for some good deals, in fact i may have a AC70 that i could give you a deal on.
  4. congo tetras are quite lively and swim all over the tank.
  5. A school of congo tetras is quite the sight as well.
  6. Hi, Agreed that this is a great thread. I've always wanted to try making one. Does anyone know how whether it would be heavy if i try to make one for a 6' tank ? they are not that heavy since they are primarily styrofoam with a thin (1/2cm approx) coat of concrete.
  7. i use schultz's aquatic soil in my 55 planted tank and it works fine....picked it up at rona home and garden on 97th street. it is only 8 bucks a bag or so...

  11. Superb setup.....the envy of any tanganyikan lover.
  12. I would add the rest of the rock to the tank
  13. i keep several different mbuna species in my 110 gallon tank, i have no losses due to aggression because i overstock my tank , and it gives you a very active colorful tank. i am not into mixing lakes hence i wouldn't add petricolas , leleupi's or brislenoses, i prefer to mimic there natural conditions. here is an article which may be helpful. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/why_...an_cichlids.php
  14. when i made mine i mixed in the quickcrete color and cement and got a nice brownish black color and put it on as my final concrete coat of the background.....then while the concrete was still wet i used a dry paintbrush and small dabs of the concrete pigment (i had brown, black and a reddish color) and stippled in some details and shading to make it look realistic....ie highlighting high spots and darkining the crevices. it turned out pretty good i think.....

http://www.hagen.com/uk/aquatic/glo/GLOT5_LightProg7_EN.cfm Power-GLO in a T5 HO format delivers an 18000K bulb with powerful light output and makes it an ideal choice for African cichlid aquariums as well as for most marine aquariums. Colors such as blue, violet and purple will really come alive with Power-GLO. Combine with Life-GLO and Marine-GLO in marine aquariums.
