  1. Just wanted to say thanks for all the friends i made while i was in calgary for the last 3 years, i met alot of really great people. Sadly i have now been back in bc for the last couple of months. I will probably not frequent this site as much anymore, maybe drop by the odd time, you can always catch me at bcaquaria if you got questions. Thanks to all the friends i made and the Calgary Aquarium Club for taking me in, hope you enjoyed those tool kits. Shawn AKA Nicklfire
  2. anyone got a few of these snails i could grab, i got some hydras in my shrimp tank
  3. this guy could probably make you some too: http://www.gtaaquaria.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3218
  4. http://greenleafaquariums.com/co2-drop-checkers/kh-standard.html http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/ae-design-4-dkh-solution-250ml-p-1447.html That's the only place I know of where you can buy it... many places dont carry it because it only costs like.. 1 cent to make it.. Make a big batch of it.. like 4 liters.. and you will be pretty accurate. Keep in mind those drop checkers are not always EXACT. They are a good reference but not always correct
  5. good luck to anyone coming from edmonton, we are supposed to get 15-25 cm of snow for tomorrow.. EEK
  6. excel is a aquarium product used to supplement carbon rather then dosing co2.. these other "medical" chemicals... are pretty much the same stuff just more powerful and not typically used in aquariums until someone figured out its the same stuff almost.. There are always health concerns using these type of products.. even excel is not supposed to come in contact with your skin.
  7. some medical supply stores carry metricide which is what i'm thinking that your talking about. The only excel alternative that i know of. ON BCA we have a sponsorship with a medical supply store called Bowers medical, they sell a 4.5 L for about 20$ . I'm sure if you got enough interest you might be able to get that price down even further and then they could ship it to you. Lots and lots of people on Bca are using this with good results, but it is a pretty diluted solution so care must be taken. Shawn
  8. what was the error and where are you trying to upload them to? personally when i upload pictures to a thread i just use photobucket.com to upload then past the link here, i find it easier and pics are bigger
  9. i think this is what your looking for http://www.crustaforum.com/board/showthread.php?1512-New-Compatibility-Chart&highlight=crossbreeding
  10. you brought them in as of recent, even with the cold weather? If you got them from Frank...then i know how good quality those things are
  11. did you buy these local?
  12. pay for it over the phone, then i'll pick em up for you and ship them greyhound collect
  13. I'm in need of a PAR meter, wondering if anyone in the club has one i can rent/borrow for a few days. I'm having a issue with plant growth, cant figure out if it's my co2, my light intensity or my circulation. Having a PAR meter would help me narrow it down.
  14. I havnt had the chance to fully configure it yet, cant figure out how to turn it on for the seconds yet lol, really have not invested much time into figuring it out but i am on holidays tomrrow so i'll have lots of time to get it configured then i'll let ya know for sure ;0
  15. In the coming month or two i should have some good plant clippings available
  16. Ya you and me both Should be nice once it's filled in completely Yes the bulkheads are at the bottom Basically there are 4 bulkheads, 2 on each side. 2 on the left (1 is in and 1 out) and same thing on the right side. basically the bulkhead which is the inlet has about a 4" extension with a strainer on the end of it. The plants are covering it pretty well but if you look close it's the white pipe. Ebay! he does not have them listed on ebay at the moment or else i would have sent you the direct link. I have not fully setup the pump as of yet so i cannot say i'm using it. I have been testing it with water so far and it seems to be working good. Basically i am using EI method and just using the pump to remember foro me. So basically macro and trace switch from day to day then on sunday there is a 50% water change. then it starts all over again. I was asking myself the exact same thing, I did find this forum discussion about it. Nicklfire where did you get yours from? How much? Happy with it? http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1938900 I think it was about 180$, so far i'm happy, there are things that i dont like about it such as the buttons are very small.. i dont think i can fully say if it's happy with it until i start using it for a longer period... but so far so good.
  17. The tank is only in it's starting stage and has alot of growing to do, most of the plants are very new, so give it a few grow out weeks and it will fill in Lots of the plants are very new so pardon the bare spots
  18. Hey All, I have posted my journal on ABAQUARIA and BCAQUARIA so i thought it was time i posted it here. Basically i have a 75 gallon aquarium but it's a pretty good setup It's running a Closed loop system (so that means all the hardware is below the tank and bulkheads installed on bottom of tank). Hardware and such - Bulkhead inlet goes into a RENA xp3 filter and goes back through the bulkhead - On the other side of the tank i have the inlet going into a aquamedia 1000 reactor which is what the pressurized co2 goes into, which then goes into a external pump, which then goes into a UV sterilizer, which then goes into a Hydor heater) - 3 pump auto doser pump (for fertz) - 54 w x 4 t5 lighting -10 lb co2 -7 bags of florabse substrate
  19. When i was in medicine hat i went to KOST fire and they filled it, was about 35$ for a 10lb
  20. I bought my stuff @ J&L aquatics in vancouver and i'm sure they will ship to you as well, not sure local. You just need any type of 10lb or 20lb tank (heavier the tank the more it holds and the longer you can go without refill). 10lb is pretty standard size tank. You can get the tank filled at the recharge centre down by chinook mall, i think it cost me 30$ to fill up and lasts 6 months or so. http://www.rechargecentre.com/ You will need a needle valve, regulator, and guages. This stuff comes in a setup when you buy it from JL. About 300$ for the supplies, another 30-50 for the co2 itself. http://www.jlaquatics.com/product/cr-pz10rvs/10-Pound+Cylinder%2C+CO2+Regulator%2C+Needle+Valve+%26+Solenoid+Package.html Then you will need some way to diffus the co2 into your tank, a ceramic co2 diffuser should do the job. You can find them on ebay for 10$ http://www.aquariumslife.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/co2diffuser3.jpg You need a way to monitor how much co2 you have in your tank and a co2 drop checker does the job well. The solution turns green when you hit 30ppm which is ideal in a planted tank. Again 10$ http://cgi.ebay.ca/CO2-Drop-Checker-PH-solution-/260703369230?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb321b80e
  21. What we do on BCA and ABA is that members can mark the forum as closed and then it moves to a archive, might be worth wild looking into that option. Just gotta train the members to close there own threads
  22. i'm bringing in some rarer and specific plants from all over the country right now, so few months hopefully i'll have a bunch to share.
  23. I've been having to get them from everywhere lol, red deer, vancouver, winnipeg... there is some at Pisces pet emporium. AVg about 9$ per plant, deal right now.. 3 for 13 (1 tank only) some good finds. Depends what your looking for i suppose. Every 2nd month riverfront has a 2 for 1 other then that the calgary aquarium society monthly mini auction
