  1. LMAO ok, my 3 yr old likes it...but then again he likes the cats food too... BUSTED A GUT WHEN I READ THIS QUOTE (Master of Puppets @ Nov 4 2009, 07:30 PM) * I just say it cuz my dog got sick on flakes before. ihavefish : You should switch him over to pellets then
  2. Very beautiful fish, I have a little Botia, did not know about the spear/spine eye thingy, moved him into the tank one day after doing a cleaning and thought I hurt him or one of his tank mates was trying to remove his eye, thought it was a bone from the socket, freaked me right out..lol, cool pic of yours sticking out!
  3. Been offline for quite some time it seems, Dustin..you hadn't started last time I was on, that looks sick man! Would love to come take a look sometime.
  4. Hey Ishkabod, it is the male I got from you, for some reason he re-paired up with a new female but defiantly a good daddy! now that they have started swimming easily 30 are there...sooo excited! So only had 4 babies left and they passed too...My male is now back with his first mate, they re-paired up after taking the first females fry out of the tank...I have the biggest slut or what???? Eggs all over again, the original 2 (Ishkabods) are now guarding the area and I am awaiting new babies...Again.
  5. "I got my first arowana today thumbup.gif I got to pick the best one out of 20 at aqua giant. He is in a 94 gallon until the glass gets here in April rolleyes.gif " Grats on your new Fin Baby!!

  7. So looking into my tank, there has been my big male and a new female hiding in the corner alot, sure enough, got me some wee ones..thought they were monogamous breeders..?.. very odd since his original female is in the tank too. Anyways, wondering what the typical spawn # is with them, @ what point should I siphon then into a non community tank/fry tank. Holy difference between mouth breeder fry size and egg layers! Thank-ya
  8. Is this fish in breeding dress? If it is that colorful when not in breeding dress, I have a good chance of gettign them! She is about 3-4" in this pic and was close to laying. Here is one of my juvies @ 1.5-2" not in dress...Still nice and red, but they truly "GLOW" when they are ready to breed!
  9. Agreed, but yet again I am no expert
  10. Ok, so if a Flowerhorn is part red devil and a Parrot is also red devil..this is not such a far out cross is it? Have had these guys separated out from my smaller fish I just recently got and they were kicking the carp out of the severum/elongatus and dovii...looked in the tank and low and behold...eggs..everywhere, they are fanning them nice, and being very attentive, moved the 3 others out and now they all seem less stressed! Babies soon anyone?
  11. I have a 4" Pseudotropheus elongatus "Mpanga" Female, at least thinking thats her that I got from here as a breeding pair and the boy died.. so she has held.... She is blue!
  12. Just wondering, since I have no clue about salt, they would be the equivalent to snails in freshwater?, ok and not bad until they overpopulate your tank..they do look pretty, see I would have not known and left it.. adds color!
  13. Ahh see I learn something new each time I log in! Thought he/she was cool looking
  14. Was thinking a red top mbuna, but even his/her body has a red coloration with not much blue.. After a while in tank... Face to show stripes..flash on..oops
  15. Well reading @ loaches online, under the breeding and the person saying about the shimmy shake lol, just like my male is doing gives me a good idea thats what is happening...just a wait and see thing I guess..so something they again dont tell..egglayers I would assume?
  16. All these sites that say little is known on breeding habits, and they don't share even that "Little" information..I have male and female and noticed the funny activity..nothing I have seen them do before , male chasing her around and laying beside her, shimmy and shake dance (she gets annoyed and leaves) but he is persistant! They usually just sort of each take one of the nice little caves but he seems to be activly searching her out, I know they are definatly not know to breed in captivity..but anyone know what the "little" to the breeding habits are? you would think even wild fish habits would be somewhere on the web..it's educational, heck I can find out breeding habits of squid, girraffes, cockroaches but not my own fish...Any links or ideas? :smokey:
  17. Either way a very hansome fish, I love color!
  18. She does show barring, swimming normal if not a bit topheavy, comes to surface with a bit of effort, unless chasing the male. I do not think it is anything but overstuffededness (my new word) She is gung ho but my male is a virgin and has no cue what he is doing so she even got to the point of chasing him, once he tried to Hug her and missed her completely..guess its a Bettas version of masterbation, was curled all in a ball as she looked on thinking "well this is fun"
  19. I have a female who (very much like myself in the 7th month of my preg.) looks ready to explode, she litterally looks like she has breasts. I have her in with a male and thought even the release of the eggs would be good because it can't be good for her. I got her already full of eggs and she seems to be expanding at a good rate..without dropping or "doing the deed" Any ideas, anyone have a stud? wanna borrow her? lol...stud out your Betta!
  20. Well first shot may be blown, not sure. I bought some egg crate and moved everyone else from the rock area.. since I have some that are able to slide through the 1" grating, it sort of worked, at least the ones I was more worried about. Mom and Dad moved the eggs off the rock to the gravel. some turned whitish and they removed them but there were quite a few that I could see a black dot in the center they moved also. Waited for a bit and mom and dad started squabeling so I removed dad. Mom then chose not to hover over eggs/babies whatever in gravle, little 1" guys started taking over the partitioned side of the tank and Mom did not care.. I have removed partition and figure, I only have to wait how long before I have another batch of eggs??? Still watching to see if theres any wee wiggle movement from the area though..maybe 1?? will net it out and throw it into a breeder if I see any! Maybe my idea of artificial hatching in the 5.5 would work better until I shuffle fish and get them set up as breeding pairs in one and solo's in another.
