  2. YAY CONGRATS! I am glad they are well enough to spawn, and yeah maybe the babies had something to do with thier actions.

  5. LMAO Welcome to the Multiple Tank Syndrome...no? I know I am currently trying to convince the hubby I NEED BIGGER (Tank that is )
  6. Sweet, check out our photography section, we have some awesome talent here..(not me) but I love looking at the pics! Look forward to seeing your tanks and work! Welcome
  7. Got 3 Red Jewels from Ishkabod a while back and 2 seemed to pair off and beat the odd man out. After getting rid of the spare wheel to a good home, they colored even more and were inseperable. As some of you know last Saturday (wow only a week) I got a new tank (55gl) and they all went in. Had a ammonia spike and lost 7 fish, and yet this morning, I get up and see the reds acting funny, thinking what the heck is she doing??? upon futher inspection I find TONS of eggs under the side she is hovering (Vertically I may add) over!! Not very clear but tried to enhance so you could see the eggs.. Rock is fasirly smooth, so texture is eggs! Threr are a few fish in the 55 as you can see from my sig, thinking of submurging a 5.5 into the 55 and removing the rock to the smaller tank (and then removing the 5.5 from the 55 of course) so eggs are safe and not exposed to air in transfer etc, any hints ideas for me??? should mom and dad go too?? Jenn
  8. Hmmm... may have to try some with my smaller cichlids (less mess than Bruno) I think using that and mixing in a bit of white aquarium gravel.
  9. LOL, Blue, like real blue???
  10. Awesome, is it larger grains? I am using a playsand right now and not to mention the Awesome pieces of manz wood from patrick, tank looks icky..Need to boil this weekend and get new substrate myself!
  11. I know if your fishies are a smaller crew than the one in my 72 the sand is nice, really like it look of it. I am finding that with my big guy and the giant kitetail poop maker that my 7" pleco is, it is hard to clean the tank without sucking tons of sand up, not to mention "Bruno" likes to do the rock shuffle
  12. lol, your padewan are learning they are
  13. Flowerhorn Parrot F1 Electric Yellow Peekaboo! Red Jewel (1 of 2) Wee Dovii Red Devil Some Angels

  15. Hmmm, been trying to convince mine ( hubby ) that we need a bigger tank...I will show him your posting and say..."see how happy she is...I could be too!" Thanks for helping me get my Christmas wish!
  16. @ work so I can't see movie etc, will definatly check it at home, the first Pic is awesome though..thats a sh**load of babies!!
  17. I was under the impression that all loaches ate snails.. Hmm, I have cichlids and loaches but no snails hubby has goldfish and snails but the goldfish love the snails... pretty darn good an keeping his population down. Looking at your sig I would say you wouldn't want some larger comets in there! Umm had some pea puffers at one time who chowed down on snails.. Website snipet below: http://freshaquarium.about.com/od/snailsan...illingsnals.htm Controlling Snails Even though the snail has the advantage of reproducing quickly, and is able to easily hide, you can still win this battle. All you have to do is use your superior brainpower. Snails can be lured out by simply clipping a lettuce leaf to the glass before you go to bed. In the morning there will be a whole family of snails feasting on the lettuce, which you will scoop out of the tank and dispose of. You won't eliminate every snail that way, but you can keep their numbers under control. Another option is to put snail-eating fish in your tank. Any respectable Clown or Yo-Yo loach would give their right fin for a snail dinner. They will sift through the gravel, sucking any snail they find right out of its shell. Loaches will even dive under the substrate in their snail hunting quest. Labyrinth fish, such as Bettas and Gouramis, will also eat snails. However, they are not as adept at tracking them down in their home under the gravel. Lastly, remember the equation, less food = less snails. Reduce the amount of food your fish are given, and there will not be as much leftover for the snails.
  18. That was my thoughts too..good to know I am not just blowing smoke up my own... as I said I have no clue, follow directions and was seeing what happed, did a water change againaround midnight, they all seemed fine at 8am. Hopefully no more casualties, thing is, went and bought the kits etc, and they had no countermeasures..was thinking great I can test for all this, but how do you fix it?
  19. Well for me... New used tank, cycled filter media from old tank, rinsed but not scoured/disenfected gravel, 25 % old water, did it like a 75% water change.. they were good for about 24 hours then as I am out of town cell rings and hubby says my fish are gasping at the surface and starting to roll. does this sound like a spike? Ph was 7.2 and Nitrogen was .75 I think..is it bad? see I have never tested my water until lastnight and was thinking ok, something has to give, ran to 24hr wallyword and bought goodies to check this stuff out but since I know squat about the actal ph/nitrate/amonia..I am lost...hence me asking you! Opinion? Again in the same time frame as Ishk
  20. Had a Trio, as Brian said they love the shrimps! did do a large feeder or two but only once a month or so, Hikari cichlid pelets also....Ex kept them not sure what he feeds them now!
  21. I did a 75% on Saturday...6 dead... I have no clue.. Red Jewels I got from you seem to be living through the catastrophes of the tank though!
  22. if a mouthbrooder is holding hybrid or unwanted eggs you take the female out and remove the eggs. you start buy getting a bucket that has enough room to move or hands around in( this will make it easyer for you) get a blunted toothpick or a q tip. when you have caught the female keep her in the net nut bring the net into the bucket. don't let go of her, keep a firm but gental grip on her. if you are right handed, hold the fish in the bucket under water with your left hand and gently open her mouth with the q tip and have her at a slight angle so the eggs roll right out of her mouth. Do not put her in the bucket because then she will just pick the eggs back up. after you strip her put her back in the tank. That is stripping a female. I have no idea what you were thinking about lol. How badly did you damage the female? Ok Good to know, see I learn at work all the time, may not be job related but always learning. What I was thinking..stripping..I guess in a literal sense  :eh:
