  1. I should mention clown loach mating is extremely rare and has never really been recorded.
  2. 2 loaches twisting near the top? Has it been a while since a water change? Maybe some higher nitrates or other dead plant matter? Some believe their mating may be triggered by bad water conditions since they mate in the wild when new areas flood.
  3. Never noticed any shell damage on my apple snails when I had them and they matted like crazy. Almost a clutch a day. It was an apple snail outbreak. Is your alkalinity high enough for them?
  4. He had fish in there and tried finding a proper preditor but the worms were too fast for them. He ended up tearing down the tank and starting over. Can't remember exactly where I read about it.
  5. Thanks My3KidsDad. I really like the general concept of that stand. I'll probably use it as a basis for my design but I am thinking of using 2x4's all the way around the outside between the blue and the yellow. and then another purple one in the center on both sides for a drawer and cabinet maybe.
  6. Just thought this was a nice video. The guy couldn't figure out what was wreaking his tank. Apparently these only come out for about an hour in the morning.
  7. Hello m&mhills. Glad to see you made it here.
  8. don't recall the cost of the 36". You'll have to phone all seasons garden center and ask. Mine are the sunblasters(they have a second type). To seal them you simply take out the tombstones(end of the light where the bulb plugs into) and then silicone it to the solid metal piece. That way no condensation can get inside.
  9. I've seen quite a few tutorials and whatnot for aquariums, but not so much for a 'howto' for stands. Maybe you have a favorite site bookmarked you could share with the rest of us? I also checked out our site listing and found it useful but I'd like to see some other styles before deciding on my own.
  10. I do the 'do nothing' to raise fry technique. You don't get many. Keep some java moss floating in the tank, algae is good for them too(or more so micro organisms that feed on algae).
  11. Harold is a Columbian Fish Lord. lol
  12. ok, hahahahahahhahaha. Thanks for the amazing laugh. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't all arowana's grow to some massive size.. and to complain it's eating your guppies? ahahahaha and quote " HELLO!. I HAVE A baby Pearl Jardini arowana for sale. it's aroung 3-4 inches long. i pay $80. (its eating all my Guppies) asking $40.thank you $40.00. firm." There is a video on youtube of an arowana eating a duck!

    led lighting

I picked up the following light after testing out a similar product at a store. I was mainly interested in seeing some plant growth under them and would it be powerful enough to reach the bottom of a 90 gallon. http://cgi.ebay.ca/Red-Blue-Hydroponic-LED...=item53ded95536 Just the light.. beside 2 t5 ho I wanted to see positive growth beside 4 t5 ho but two died on me last week so it wouldn't be a fair test. However I do see positive growth on the side with the led light. Much bigger leaves from new growth. By the way this light would work better if there were some white led in it. Then it would be esthetically pleasing. I think as a result of seeing some positive growth I may be ready to do an all led fixture in the near future. With either a mix of one t5 or a white led strip. Or I may make my own with the right led wholesaler.
  14. I've been a long time user of the hydroponics light.. so.. just my 2 cents. one light is about $50. 4 lights which I run is about $200. For your $300 light you probably get a reflector, fans, a nice mount, as well as sealed from water. I might also add that if you don't seal your t5's they could die (2 of mine just went). I also had an issue laying mine right on top of my glass(the glass cracked).
  15. It keeps the gene pool fresh until such time that numerous industries destroy their natural habitat and we can only breed them in aquariums.
  16. Unfortunately society still sees fish as ornaments and don't understand that they can be your loving pet. I recently heard someone had forgotten a Betta in a plastic bag for over a month and it was still alive. I hope yours are just as lucky.

I doubt that fixture would be of any value over a tank. Those tiny leds don't put out much. I don't know about planted tanks but reef tanks are having good luck with 3w led arrays. I demod one in the store today and I was seeing spots after looking into it. I decided to buy one panel of the red/blue and test it out on a corner of the tank.
  19. Hey with a topic like this, when I get here, you better have some home made amateur stuff!

I remember playing with leds when I was 10. I even build a working radio from circuit parts. But today I don't remember much of that. I just have no idea why they are charging so much for led lighting? I might just have to build my own.

    light bulbs?

All seasons garden center sells some cheap t5ho. They keep the bulbs in back. 6400k or 10000k
  23. $25? did it come down in price? I may have to actually go.
  24. I have some albino bn fry in with some rather violent fish right now and they seem to do fine. Just make sure they don't fit in the mouth.
  25. Just wondering if anyone connected the two? I have a black dirt substrate tank and my intake seems to get clogged a lot. I have the big als circular sponge filter that is intended for an air bubbler.
