  1. OMG, I first didn't want to go see the video but I pushed myself and watched it, now if the fish would of eaten it all right away no big deal, but dang it that was just wrong! You could see when the poor duckling was running out of air, and started to fight I actually thought it was dead before that... then I saw that and I was like HOLY CRAP! (k that was not what I said, but same difference). You would think with some of the posts he has had he would of removed the video... some peoples children!!! Lana
  2. Your tank is beautiful as are your fish! I would love a salt water tank, but no room and no knowledge on them yet... still figuring out the freshwater tank... Lana

    Hello

Hi Steve! Pricing is way out there is left field isn't it. I think the only way to cut costs, is to have someone build your cabinet piece, and purchase the tank seperately... sometimes on kijiji you can find some but you probably wouldn't want their stands as this is to be your "show piece". I believe there are a couple of custom design places that offer their services, not sure if you have checked them all out, but the one's I know about are: Aquarium designs Aquarium Illusions Aquarium Enthusiasts they all have websites too. If someone else knows of more places to go for this "special" piece maybe they could list it for you, then you can go out and about and obtain some quotes. Best of luck! Lana
  4. Lisa, You seem to have a soft spot for the south american cichlids , so if I were you I would look into some of them for your 80 gal tank. Maybe some folks on here can help you stock the tank once it has been set up for a bit... Lana
  5. He looks fabulous, I didn't see him when he was smaller.... He is obviously doing very well... Lana
  6. What a great video, thanks for sharing. They first look like bubbles when the video first startes... pretty cool. Congrats looks like you had a good batch. Lana
  7. This is true, however if you look at their site it just started on June 28th and because they import everything and don't keep anything in stock it is hard to get adult photos of them. Mike will be the first to tell you that he does not know a lot about the African cichlids. But he does try very hard and that accounts for something. He is also very personable. They are better then going to the "pet" store, and even when I went to Aquarium Illusions and asked about one of the cichlids they had there they flat out told me they did not know a lot about them, as they specialize in salt water... I have always had reasonable service with them, therefore continue to go back... I guess if you want to see the quality they have call them up and go there in person... as they do have in their ware house what is listed on the specials page. Lana
  8. I figured I should put the link up to their specials page. http://www.bluewatersaquatic.com/specials.html They just got back from Holidays so are working on updating the site. Lana
  9. Cyndi, Did you purchase from them? If you did what did you buy? I have ordered from them now three times, they are very good, however their distributor is giving them grief, he keeps sending them the wrong items. For example I ordered some Cherry Shrimp and the distributor sent them flower shrimp. They also keep back ordering on them, so Mike and Matt are now looking for another distributor/importer to use. The fish I have obtained from them are wonderful and in very good shape. They also are accomodating, because I can not make it to their warehouse during the day, I always get there in the evening and they ensure there is someone there to meet me. Their goal is to clean out the back of the warehouse and setup aquariums in the back with fish they have imported. Right now for the most part they only house what is ordered, but if you look on their specials page, those are fish they currently have in stock now. Some are stunning...some I don't care for. Most are wild caught some are F1's. Lana
  10. I have taken a few pictures of my cichlid tank, It is starting to take shape, I just need to pick up a few more stones but I like how it is coming along. I have more photos in my album area. Lana
  11. :welcome: To AA, I am sorry for your losses. I am sure anywhere else if you told people you were crying over fish they would think you belonged in a loney bin, but here... I think we can all relate... I can only imagine how helpless you must of felt. I am new to fish completely, so I don't have the amount of tanks you have, but if I had a house I could be dangerous... between my horses and fish addictions I am very broke...haha. I would love to see photos of your fish and tank setups... Lana
  12. Petcetera has some that are pretty nice looking. I have also obtained some very nice one's from Pj's in londondary. I think you could probably get away with 10 guppies in your 10gal tank. I have seen them combined with no apparent ratio. I think I have five in my five gal tank, and I think I have two males, and three females, plus two babies... I am hoping to move them in time, but right now the tank I was going to move them into i am housing my baby yellows and tetras... Lana
  13. :welcome: to not only AA but to ALBERTA! We live on a farm right now, we don't have salt water tanks, but I can suggest that when you empty your tank, put it into a tub or several tub's, then locate NewAlta company (disposal company) they dispose of all kinds of chemicals, so they would take your water no problem. Keeping in mind we have a softener on our well water and it is disposed of over ground. It is not as salty as your tanks, but so far we have not had any problems. we go through 5bags of salt per month, and the quack grass loves it! So do the other grasses. Good luck with your move and again Welcome! Lana
  14. I just did a google search for pink cichlid... and it looks like this is a pink convict cichlid... http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt..._CA218%26sa%3DN It does not say it is dyed, but I am guessing it is... but I know nothing...l Lana
  15. I was very young, under the age of six, I remember it was black or very dark brown and had whiskers... and it was slimy and when we put it in the creek it just sat there for a few minutes that swam away... I don't recall how big it was, but when I was that small it looked huge...haha Lana
  16. When I think of perch I think YUMMY!!! Now those other guys are just weird looking can honestly say I don't recall seeing a fish shaped like that before. I remember once as a kid my dad or someone brought home a cat fish, us kids took it to the creek and let it go. Dad just brought it home to show us. The creek led to the athabasca river... We lived in town of Athabasca as kids... I think I saw a golden eye once a few years back, but you know I think the rainbow trout are rather nice looking too... Lana
  17. Yes it is ammonia is going down, but nitrite seems to be going up... not sure why that is I thought once the nitrates kicked in the nitrites would go away in few day. Ammonia: 2.5 ppm (going down) Nitrite: 5 ppm Nitrate: 10 ppm I hate leaving for so long knowing my tank is for poop! I have added prime and stability, I think I might add more... just so not sure... Lana
  18. I can not drive to the south side today I have to be quick so only stopping quickly on the north side... we had a guppy that had babies too, sure hope they last while we are gone... I am trying to find brine shrimp I can hatch so they can eat them while we are away and they wont cause havok with my tank. Also looking for microworms too. I will look into the java fern... Thank you for your help I will hopefully come home with something tonight. Lana
  19. I have mine on a surge protection bar that way if there is a power outage, I can just reset it and go on my marry way. I am married to an electrician so my electrical work falls on the way side...Hahaha. Lana
  20. Another quick question, I noticed that Nick suggested Daphnia, will my cichlids eat them before they can eat the algea? Would they be okay if they ate them? Where can you buy them? Lana
  21. I have done a bit of research on plants and what will withstand the torture of cichlids. I have come up with two plants that I think will benefit my tank. 1. Anubia Barteri Nana 2. Hygrophila Corymbosa With these two plants do I need anything special? my substraight is sand. I was also thinking I should pot them to help protect their root systems although I believe I read I could just tie the nana to the drift would and it would ancher itself there... Now as I am going to be purchasing new plants, how do I treat them to ensure that they do not bring disease into my tanks? Such as Ich or velvet or other diseases that could cause me much grief and stress... Lana
  22. I have a question to add to this thread, could a person tape up tin foil around the tank? The reason why I ask is because with the electrical I would prefer not to hang towels over it or have it sag into my aquaclear filter... I know my camper looks like a baked potatoe and it is so nice in dark, middle of the day feels like middle of the night... I can do that for any and all windows near the aquarium suppling it with indirect light. Lana
  23. WOW you have some wonderful color in your tank Patrick!!! Lana
  24. We did put one of them in the tank, we have a bunch of them, but only one made it in the tank. I was hoping they would be okay for the tank because we are going away for a week and thought they would be the perfect dinner while we were gone. The lake we went to is near Barrhead, it is called Thunder Lake, provincial park. I know that you can not take anything out of the Fort Sask. River as the mercury levels are to high, you can not even consume them. Thunder Lake however is safe for human consumption of their fish. Cross Lake up by by fossit(sp) has lots of these little shrimp too, For Far by Athabasca does not. I don't recall but I don't think Long Island Lake by Westlock does either. Lana PS I have the frozen brine shrimp too
  25. Okay I will do that... That is why I thought I better ask here first... Lana
