  1. I just bought a RO unit today on Ebay and the seller is from B.C and charged me $25 U.S to ship. It is rated for 50 gallons a day with a 4 gallon storage tank and comes with a U.V sterilizer. It was $229.00 Canadian with shipping(the hardware store in town quoted me $420.00) I would pay more than this for my drinking water and what I use for my discus!!
  2. :welcome: to AA. Soon you will have MTS. I started with a 10 gallon, then a 55 gallon and now on to the big 225 gallon. Believe me if I had a basement it would be bigger :smokey: Danios and community fish are not only great for learning but also wonderful(forgiving) fish. Oh and wait till you get the betta(they have great personality)
  3. :welcome: to AA. There is a wealth of knowledge on this site. I learnt alot just by reading posts!
  4. IMO and I am no expert I would de-worm just to make sure. Even if he was eating before the worms would eat all the nutrients. It can't hurt to try.
  5. Is he pooping and what does it look like? Maybe he has worms?
  6. :welcome: to AA and no idea where to find the worms...sorry
  7. :welcome: to AA and no questions are stupid. Oh and bad spelling as long as its close Im sure we can read it.
  8. The pirahnas are being moved to the 75 as they like the surface area and now that they have grown a little bigger, they need it even more. They are really starting to :boxer: for space. The discus will then go in the 72 tall and hopefully it will be semi-planted for them soon after. They are still pretty little well at least the 5 new ones and look good in the 20 gallon, they are gonna think they are in the amazon river -roll-
  9. I have enough fun trying to catch the cichlids I have now in the 75 gallon. How do you catch them in a tank the size of the 225? Should I buy(make) something to divide the tank?
  10. Never thought of it that way. Maybe I will have to do just that.....things that make you go hmmmmmm
  11. Thanks, Im pretty excited to get it up and running and to see how big some of these fish get!
  12. So this is my stock list for the 225 gallon that has woefully been sitting empty since last October. The stand has been built(thank you Ryan), the 3-d background is almost finished and the fish are all on hold until July 13(at least I hope they are) Just want to get opinions on what everyone thinks of the species together. This is going to be an all male tank so hopefully I can keep some of the aggression at bay. Sorry if my spelling is off! :shifty: Auloncaura Jacobfriebergi "Eureka Red" x 2 Nimbochromis Polystigma x 1 Dimidiochromis Dimidiatus x 2 Nibochromis Livingtonii x 1 Fossochromis Rostratus x 2 O.B Peacocks x2 Auloncaura Sp. Strawberry Peacock x 2 German Ruby Red x 1 Nimbochromis Venustus x 2 F1 Auloncaura Maylandi x1 Placidochromis phenochilus x1 Taiwan Reef x1 (not quite sure what sp.) Cyrtocara Moorii x1 Dimidiochromis Compressiceps x 1 Pseudotropheus sp."elongatus chewere" x1 Metriaclima elegans "gnome" x1 Auloncaura sunburst peacock x1 Sciaenochromis fryeri x2 Protomelas sp "spilonotus tanzania"x1 Protomelas Taeniolatus x 1 Labidochromis caeruleus x 2 and last but not least Syndontis Eupterus x 2 Oh and a shout out to Lana who helped me get into the wonderful world of Cichlids.
  13. It will be at 84. Im just asking as I now have a little collection of 7 discus(5 in quarentine) and 2 in the 30 gallon right now. Once my 225 is going in the next couple of weeks, I will be moving my cichlids to the 225, the red bellies to the 75(standard 4') and the discus to the 72 tall. I really like the look of the real plants. Thanks for all the replies and advice, I will try out the plants suggested for sure!!!
  14. I dont have to dig really deep into my sand as everything sits on top. I just lightly vacuum the top and you will get some sand in your bucket(or whatever you use) but not enough to worry about. I found my gravel kept everything and was nasty most of the time(esp. with the pirahnas) so changed to sand and its been great. P.S I use the home depot play sand or I did see some very fine sand at wal-mart for landscaping for 2.67 a bag.
  15. Beautiful...wish I had more room for some.
  16. I have a canopy on it that has room for 3 t-8 bulbs. I can put really whatever will work for bulbs in. I have zoo med 5500k full spectrum in there right now. The canopy has 2 switches, 1 operates 2 bulbs and the other does 1 bulb, so I could switch up my bulbs to better suit the plants as well.
  17. Hey everyone. I have never kept live plants but now with my discus I would like to have a semi planted tank for them to cruise around in. So here is my question, do I have to have a CO2 system to just have a few plants and will I be able to run an airstone for the fish? The tank is a 72 gallon tall, with a 3 bulb light canopy(only running 1 bulb in it so far as my pirahnas are in it right now) Also what are the easy plants to grow? Thanks for any help
  18. You sure can use sand. I use sand in all my tanks and unless you want the very fine white sand(very expensive), you can go to most home building centers and just buy play sand for about $6.00 a bag
  19. My first insurance was renters insurance and I called and asked as I was on a second floor apartment. I got property damage and liablity for $1,000,000.00. Im sure that it would be expensive to cover all the damage even a 55 could do to your stuff, the apartment(house) and whom ever (in my case) was below me's stuff :smokey:
  20. When we got our first 55 gallon and lived on a second floor apartment, I called AMA whom I use for car insurance. They covered the aquarium and I had them put it specifically on the insurance papers. I was cover for 1 million liablity and property damage. The landlord otherwise didnt want the aquarium set up. Thanks for the reminder I guess I better call them about the 225 now :smokey:
  21. Sometimes my fish go through this little "quirk". I will then grab a chair and sit and watch them for awhile and try to make a effort to do this every day. They soon get over it! Good luck
