  1. OK that UV filter is absolutely glorious...my water hasn't been this clear since the first day I filled it and I am sure its even better now...I encourage everyone that has my problem to give them a try if they can afford it...best investment i have made yet...I am actually enjoying my fish again!!!
  2. Hehe no Worries....Congrats on the swordtails btw...my big electric yellow is carrying...I am hoping they make it this time...I didn't have much luck with my peacocks...
  3. Green water is exactly what I have been fighting...I have stopped turning on the light in the morning and only turn it on when I get home...the water has already started to clear up since putting the UV sterilizer on but its not 100% yet but it certainly seems to be helping!
  4. I ended up getting one last night. I didnt really notice a change in the morning but I wasn't really expecting results over night...hopefully couple days it'll be all good...any idea how long it should take for 90 gal tank? The UV filter I got says its rated for 125 gal...
  5. For the past month or so I have been fighting an algae bloom in my 90 gal tank...I have been doing frequent small water changes and have cut back how much I have been feeding them even though I don't think I feed them too much...the tank stays clean and I keep up on maintenance but I cant seem to resolve this. I am about ready to go out and buy a UV filter to combat it but I am wondering if anyone can offer any suggestions as it seems to be starting to affect my male peacock and one of my mbuna's... Any help would be appreciated!
  6. Have you tested the water? I know a heck of a lot less than the majority of the people on this board but do you have another quarantine tank you could move them too until the water gets sorted?

    Dead Peacock

We took him out rather quickly but he looked much darker than usual...Fins were fine and my wife only saw him 30 minutes before and she said they were all fine...I tested the water and its good...I have a HOB and canister filter in there with some lava rock, fossil stone, and tufa...I just..I dunno...Its been a bad 12 hours for me...sorry!
  9. Last night I came home to find that one of my male peacocks was dead. This came as a total shock to my wife because no more than 30 minutes earlier she said he was fine. Everyone in the tank gets along fine and I am just wondering if anyone can suggest why this happened so I can try to fix it. I dont know if I can handle my tank dying right now.
  10. Wow thats freaking scary!!! Sorry about the loss but good that you can type to tell about it!!!
  11. Could you have found any more creepier photos as examples...hahaha
  12. These were some great tips...Thanks... If I can add I also found that taking off auto focus helped me a lot... I am using a Canon 30D... Currently trying to capture my Flowerhorn parrots...If I get anything of interest I will post it...hehe
  13. He's been out for at least a week now and seems to be healthy so far...Thanks for the reply's!
  14. I recently aquired several Flowerhorn Parrots (beautiful fish in my opinion) and before I had the means the separate them, one of the medium sized ones got pretty beat up by the largest (damaged scales and fins) and I have put melafix in the tank he/she is in to help out but I am just wondering if that damage will heal in time...

    Filter size for tank

Thanks mate... That's kind of what I thought and found it very odd to see otherwise...I am going to go with that! Cheers!
  16. I recently went to a pet store to compare some prices on tanks and noticed they had several kits for their larger tanks that included a filter that was rated for a much smaller tank than they were selling it with (ei, Filter was for a 75 gal but the tank was 100). I am in the market for a larger tank and am curious if this is the norm... My main tank is a 33 gal with 2 filters (1 on the rim and 1 submersible) that I traded for 2 window air conditioners with a buddy of mine that has been collecting fish for some time so I just assumed what I had was adequate. Now that I am getting more into the hobby I want to make sure that my new tank has adequate filtration. Another friend of mine tells me the best filter to buy is a Rena filter but I have noticed that the price reflects the quality and am wondering if there is anything roughly the same quality but not as expensive. Cheers!
  17. Wow I am so glad I posted here before I bought that tank and put it there. Thank you Ruadh for your post...it wasnt until I read that, that I went outside and realized that the bay area hangs off the house with no support whatsoever...the area in front of it is all supported but thats about it. So thanks again.
  18. I have a similar question...I recently found a 125 gal tank and stand that I am considering buying and putting in my bay window (the windows are only on the side of the bay and not in the middle and sun does come through it). The house is only 5 years old and the joists will run perpendicular as well. The tank I am looking at comes with a full stand that looks very sturdy but my wife is still concerned that the floor will not hold it and we have no experience with a tank this size so I am hoping someone will have a similar setup and tell me its safe...hehe... I did read the section on the link above and I am by no means an architect but if I understand correctly, because its going to be on an outside wall with the joists positioned the way they are I should be ok. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
  19. I am considering starting a 10 gal saltwater tank and I was wondering what I would be looking at for start up cost to get things going. I already have the tank, I am just looking for the equipment to go in it ( live rock, I have read about power head etc?) I just need to know how much to pitch to the boss (aka wife :P) Thanks in advance!
  20. Hi all. I have 2 female peacocks and the smaller of the was holding but isnt any longer and we haven't had any luck finding the babies so we suspect they didnt make it. So I went out and bought a divider today but I just wondering how long approximately they hold for and whether I should just put the divider in right away or not. Cheers!

    Ahoy hoy

Relatively new to the hobby. I have a 33 gal tank with 2 male mbuna's, 4 peacocks (2 male, 2 female - one of which is carrying right now) 5 lelupi's and an albino plecho that are all very content together. I also have a smaller 10 gal with 2 tri color angel fish some neons, cloud white minnows and tiger danio's. I did have a very adventurous apple snail that died last week. He use to get out of the tank and we'd find him on the floor or down the stairs...each time we'd fix how he got out and he'd find a new way out...anyway just thought I'd say hi!
