I was in contact with a breeding in Ontario and asked her lots of questions as I was also considering acquiring some. I learned that you can't put ANY fish in the same tank with them, as fish will nip at the sensitive gills on these cuties. That disapointed me as I don't have space to devote just to Axolotls.

T-man where do you live. I am in Three Hills and thinking of organizing a fish swap in town sometime soon. Are you near by? It would be good place for you to bring your items to sell.

I'm bringing some drift wood with anubias on it. Also some emerald corys. bumble bee cats, and some giant peruvian apple snails.

Thanks guys, so when using rain water, is it important to always have gravel (as buffering) on the bottom of the thank. Will that avoid any ph issues?

My husband and I have been able to get our hands on a tank that is WAAYYY too big for us. We don't even have a place to put it (except in the shed) right now. But the price was right and we couldn't refuse. We loaded it up today and drove home really slowly. Loading it was easy...they had a large fork lift. We have a skid steer but we have doubts as to it's ability to lift this monstrosity. The trailor belongs to a friend so we have to find a way to get the tank off pretty soon. I'll keep you posted. Tank dimensions are 11 feet long, by 5 feet wide by 38inches deep (up and down).

I just started using rainwater for my tetras and rasboras and now my new plecos. I having walking water from my leaky evestrough on the main level. I have to "walk" my water down to the basement in buckets. But then I put it in a large container with a 110 aquaclear filter loaded with active carbon and a bag of peat moss floating all the time. Then I just bucket the water into the tanks as needed. Tell me more about ph spikes? I didn't know this was a concern (with barebottom tanks?).

Gold fish, carp and koi are not a sport fish, so like Caineshow said, no restrictions. And, I am fishing in a private dug-out with permission, so again, no restrictions there also. I wouldn't need a license anyway, and no catch limit unless the owner of the fish say so. Just like if someone has a dug out and stocks it with trout, there is no catch limit because the fish are privately owned.

The town wants to fill the pond in because it is not fenced and poses a threat to young people who might fall in (it is cut very steep) The pond is on private land that has been abandoned and is within the town limits. So the town is trying to work with the owner of the land, but he is putting up a fight. But in the meantime, I have been given permission to catch the fish if I can.

So, I took some of the advice here and went fishing. We had a blast, spent many hours and caught a handful of fish. My five year old caught the first two fish, he was thrilled. We brought them home and took some photos of them in their big tank.

I have sold many privately, and a small bunch went to a LFS. I still have a few in my tanks.

But I need them alive!

Ya , ok. very funny. There are hundreds of them. And I don't want to hurt the fish. But on second thought, that might be fun. I do love fishing.

Are the nets pricey? I will need at least two for a 40 foot dug out. Will the shocker kill the fish ( we are hoping to save them, not kill them) Where do I find info on how to build a shocker?

So, to make a long story short, there is a 40 by 40 foot by 18 foot deep dug out that is full of koi and fancy gold fish that need to be removed. What type of net should I use. Ideally the dug out was going to be drained, but now it looks like I will have to remove the fish without the help of lowering the water. Any suggestions as to how I might do this? The fish range in size from two inches to about 1.5 feet.

Dan11, do you use RO water? Can you share your water conditions with us? I was given a group of rams over a year ago and one by one they all died off over a period of several months. I always suspected my water perameters as I don't have a RO unit. I love rams and would love to try them again, but not until I figure out what i did wrong last year.

I love Aquabid but I hate it also. There are so many nice fish out there but many sellers won't ship to Canada. But I am disapointed that there is not even a fraction of the trffic on it as Aquabid. I have decided to use it, I have items for sale on it. I want this site to grow so I started this topic to make more people aware of it. ft it gets more traffic then more sellers will post their stuff and more items will become available. So check it out...check it out often and send the link to all your fishy friends. Together we can make this site successful. It is a great way for Canadians to share fish because many US sellers will not ship here.
