  1. Well. I may be up in edmonton in the end of june. I may have an extra male or two. If your still looking by then, let me know, or I could always send one up with Harold, or someone who goes up on a regular basis. I still can only see 1 definite male at this point, but they are still young...
  2. Here is a video that shows some of my 6 or 8 apistogramma eunotus fry, along with many other fish in my 135 gallon community tank:
  3. A video that shows my pair of apistogramma cacatuoides, and many other fish.
  4. Got a video of mom in my community tank, along with my apistogramma eunotus fry from another thread/video, and my apistogramma cacatuoides pair. Another video is just uploading, of the fry, and my new pair of regular blue rams, which are huge! I'll add another link in about 30 minutes or so... Parents - Fry + new pair -
  5. Ya, I was quite surprised, but considering that they charge nearly 4 dollars a piece for neon tetras, it wasn't a big shock. I have also heard that they breed true. After doing some research last night, I'm honestly not sure if they've been bred in Canada before. No matter what, though, its been exciting. They seem to be doing quite well...
  6. I have some smaller half black females. They have pretty large tails, and are dark black in the back half, to three quarters of their bodies...
  7. This is quite an interesting story. About 3 weeks ago, I brought a bunch (about 40) guppies into one of the calgary petland locations. I usually trade them for a bit of credit. I got $36. I was looking around, trying to frigure out what to take, when I noticed a gorgeous tank full of electric blue rams. Knowing petland, I expected them to be around $40 each. To my surprise, the tank said $15/each. I am pretty good at sexing rams, and easily picked a pair. I brought them home, and got a fair sized spawn about 4 days later. Only about 20 of 100 eggs went bad, and I had a good hatch. Unfortunatly, 2 days later, the male from my pair died. I know that Petland has a 30 day guarantee, so I phoned the lady that I did the swap with. Here's the funny part, she said that there had been a pricing mistake, and that the rams were supposed to be $50 each, and thats what they had been selling them at since the day after I got mine. Needless to say, she wouldn't give me another one. I wasn't too worried, as now, 2 weeks later, I have about 40 strong fry. Have not really lost any since the first couple of days, *knock on wood* lol. They are about as big as newly born guppy fry now. They are in a clean 10 gallon growing out tank. I may get some pics of the fry. The female is hard to get pics of, as she is in a 135 planted community, and hides fairly well when I pull out the camera, but I'll try. Has anybody else ever bred this variety? Do they grow as fast as regular rams? Thanks! Dan
  8. Absolutely! I won't forget. BTW, I moved them to their own 35 gallon bare bottom. They gave me some eggs 2 days ago. I took the male out, and the female ate them! Think I'm gonna just steal the next batch. However, my sights are currently set on raising about 40 Electric Blue ram fry. That is what all my efforts are going towards right now. They are about 2 weeks old free-swimming. Also, the apistogramma Eunotus pair you gave me have lots of fry. The female died at some point while defending the fry, but surprisingly about 8 of them made it. They are about an inch now, and won't get eaten. I just recently identified my first male!
  9. Well, after turning the lights on, it seems that the eggs have disapeared over night. Too bad. I'm sure they'll spawn again soon!
  10. Thanks! And no, I don't do anything with my water. I just use it straight from the tap...
  11. Mine spawn in just regular water, from the tap.
  12. Thanks! I'm pretty excited. I like all of the apistogramma's, but the cacatuoides are probably my favorite.
  13. This is an older video of my female apistogramma eunotus with fry. She actually died at some point, but many of her fry from this video, have lived on. I see them all the time in my community tank, and there is at least 6 - 8 of them. They are all about an inch long now, and too big to get eaten by anything except my largest angels. The apistos hang on the bottom part of the tank, under the plant cover, and the angels stay well above, so the angels are no threat to the fry. If you havent read my other thread, I just got a batch of eggs from a pair of orange flash cacatuoides, so I'm hoping that she is as good of a mother!
  14. Hi, last Sunday at the CAS spring auction, I bought a pair of orange flash apistogramma cacatuoides, although the male looks more like a double red than an orange flash. Anyways, I don't really care as they're both beautiful fish, and today they laid eggs! Of course they laid them on the side of the flowerpot! They can never make it easy, can they? Anyways, I can't get any pictures right now, as they're behind some plants, but I'll get some once they go free swimming. They are in my 135 gallon community tank, and that is where they'll stay. There is enough plant cover that the parents can easily defend the fry, and enough places for the fry to hide. Plus, I hardly have any bottome feeders, so it's not going to be very hard for the parents... In a few minutes I'll start another thread showing my female apistogramma eunotus with all her fry, in the same tank. The video was taken a couple of months ago, and the female actually died at some point, however many of the fry lived, and I see them all the time now, and there is at least 6, about an inch long, so I am thinking my cacatuoides should hopefully have some success with their fry!
  15. Well, I just tried this out on a batch of angel eggs. The eggs were laid yesterday, about 125 - 150, so a small spawn, but looked good. Only a couple of eggs turned white. I watched the shrimp a lot of the time, and they ate all of the eggs, good, and bad
  16. I'm bringing some guppies, swords, a few plants maybe (I was going to sell my "Java Moss." Until I found out it was hair algae, at the last CAS meeting, lol. I threw it all away. No wonder it's taking over my tanks!) I might also bring some platies, and maybe an angel or two, though I'm not sure on those yet.
  17. I am not really sure, as I don't know my plants very well, but it kind of looks like a red tiger lotus plant that I have. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will tell you for sure...
  18. I believe that they were a dyed fish, weren't they? They might have also been known as the Czech Red, as I know that they were dyed too.
  19. Great fish! The one you can identify is a pinoy paraiba veil, another blue angel, a very good quality one at that! They are all very nice fish.
  20. When I moved my 135 gallon out of some guys basement, that was what we had to do. It worked out fine and didn't damage the tank. I can't say if it is really safe or not, but it was pretty stable, and I think it would be fine...
  21. Two of my clown loaches used to do something exactly like that! They would like get really light in colour, then they would kind of rub up against each other like that, then break off, and kind of spar, like yours are doing. Mine would turn almost a metallicy silver colour, cool to watch, then 1 of them died when I took my tank down, and the other one hasn't done it since. I'd completely forgotten about it, until I saw your video.
  22. Hi Harold, Do you ever get any albino angels, and do you have any high coverage koi? Thanks!
  23. What are the rules? How many fish per jar? Are plants allowed, or only fish? Oh, and can I buy a membership at the meeting on Tuesday? Thanks!
