  1. When I was visiting him in December, I bought my ex a little 10 gallon and let him decorate it all by himself :P The result? The fishies are albino cories, cardinal tetras, and a banded gourami He was so proud of himself lol.

    FRY!

That's awesome, terrie lee! Congrats on the lil baby
  3. My old room mate used to have a pair that her sister bought for her from BC. They were adorable, had great personality and were very cute. Too bad she was a henious cow and didn't care that they needed a big @$$ tank and kept them both in a 20 gallon tank with a yoyo loach, a weather loach, some tetras, a CAE, and an apple snail. Oh, and then she'd talk about how her tank was "understocked" ANYWAYS - wicked find They are very cool fish, and pretty rare in these parts, as I understand it, no?
  4. ironically enough, I was poking around in their tank today, and for the first time EVER I found a fry!!!! Just one mind you, no matter how hard I looked I couldn't find any more, but I got one -ham- I watched the females and even though there's 4 that are soooo pregnant, none of them dropped any more fry while I was watching (for like 10 minutes) so I just scooped the 4 of them up and put them in the 10 gallon with all the untied plastic scrubbies and an established sponge filter. Hopefully I get some more bebes!
  5. LOL funny story - I'd wait until the female guppies get really fat and kinda boxy looking right, and then I'd separate them, either to another tank or in a breeding trap... Here's the funny part lol - They'd just stay pregnant for like a week, never dropping fry, and eventually I would get impatient and release them >.< I fail at guppies  Those breeding traps are terrible. They stress out the guppies to no end. This is why they don't drop. I have even seen them explode from not releasing fry. Best thing to do is to seperate them into a small 5 gallon tank & fill it with hornwort. I also have some friends that use the plastic pot scubbers. Then cut the tie & unwrap them. Put those in the tank & it gives them a great place to hide where the adults can't get them. That's a great idea, and it makes sense why the females wouldn't drop their fry... She looked extremely cheesed off at me in that breeding trap >.< I have a 10 gallon with some female bettas in it. I will move them to a betta barracks in a bigger tank and put some of my female guppies that look pretty preggers in the ten with a whackload of those unraveled pot scrubbers. I'll also get one of those betta cups next time I go to wal mart to keep in the main tank so I can get any babies that do drop in there  ((sorry for the highjack Terrie Lee O.O))

  7. :chair: What an awful sounding little thing! I need to go hunting in my guppy tank for some of those, cuz I've had thse babies for months now, watched my females get big and fat and then suddenly thin, and yet I have NEVER seen a single fry in there O.O I don't have real plants in that particular tank tho, only plastic. Hopefully they're easy to spot :grr:

    New tank

Hey Terrie Lee Isn't that Devon's tank? I seem to recall her advertising that here on AA I'll see if I can find the post... Ah hah! Here it is http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=11674&hl=
  9. Oh yeah! I so got a piece of Jason's hairy stick :hey: lol yeah it will need explaining now, won't it? :P
  10. Why thank you, Christian Is there anything you can tell me about this fish? Right now it lives in the 10 gallon I bought for my man with 3 albino corys and a pair of cardinal tetras, we're gonna get a few more cardinal tetras when the tank is more established. Is Ken gonna have to get a bigger tank? :shifty: :smokey:
  11. I think I accidentally bought one, it was in a tank of blue gouramis, and I thought it was just a washed out male dwarf gourami... Well, a week later, the fish has colored up a bit, it's mostly silver with some light turquoise stripes on the body and a bright turquoise anal fin. The anal fin also has a red band around the bottom. The fish is about 2 - 2 1/2 inches, and kinda more slender looking than the male dwarf gouramis I've seen around. Here's some pics, can anyone tell me if this is a female dwarf gourami, a male, or something else altogether? :P
  12. 13 at the moment lol I hear you on running out of room... right now they are mostly all on my bedroom shelving unit, with a couple in the kitchen, and a pair in the 20 gallon breeding tank (but not doing any breeding :chair: lol) so kinda spread out throughout the house
  13. why thank you yes, it was one of those "take 200 pics, keep 12" kind of scenarios lol
  14. I'm totally getting a couple of those tomorrow  lol
  15. :ph43r: Yes, I have a lot of freaking bettas, ok? lol Black Orchid ct male (that I can't get a decent shot of to save my life) White ct female (she has this gorgeous blue iridescence that doesn't show up in this picture, and she's quite fat with eggs now ) Copper female Now this guy is hard to photograph and I never describe him properly... Copper Mustard Gas BF Spadetail plakat male O.O Mustard Gas ct male There's also a red dragon female and a black dragon female that I haven't been able to get good pics of to save my life O.O
  16. I have been a very bad girl lately and have been unable to keep myself from buying more and more new fish! >.< She gave me an adorable pair of albino blue topaz swallowtail guppies, but alas, I couldn't get a remotely decent pic of them I am also getting some beautiful peacock cichlids from Rose tomorrow, I'm very excited about it! Not only does she have great fish, but she gives great customer service and is a kick @$$ person to boot  Red dragon plakat male Black dragon plakat male Royal Blue plakat male (with spawn sister) Red Gold Leopard veil tail male (he's so frickin' beautiful!) an awful pic of a pretty fish... A Red and White Painted Butterfly veiltail male
  17. She knows what a red-tail cat is lol. She got him imported as a baby. She did not buy him from a LFS. She is also a breeder, and a very experienced fish keeper I know you meant well, it's just kinda funny lol. You know what happens when you ASSuME, right
  18. What's a girl? -roll- we fishgirls are a rare and elusive breed, but oh-so-worth it if you can find one :P

    gggrrr

-roll- Val can attest to my frustration with my :cuss: AC's lol I hate priming those freaking things. Takes FOREVER!
  20. A great "poop diagnosis" link: Jo Ann's Diagnosis By Poop
  21. I would 1) test your water 2) do a 30 to 50% water change 3) add a nice, dirty filter sponge or some gravel from a different, established tank (like you mentioned above) to ensure your biofilter is back on track
  22. I agree, it sounds like ammonia burns. Test your water now, and don't add any more meds to your tank if the only thing you're dealing with is ick, it will only exacerbate the problem. Even if your water tests fine now, it's probably still ammonia burns, as they show up kinda like scars, AFTER the stress of poor water quality, when the fish is healing. If I read your post right, you recently increased the bioload in your tank by adding some more large fish? That definitely could have caused your tank to mini-cycle. The worst thing you can do is start throwing random meds in there that are full of harsh chemicals, especially if you don't know what you're treating for. PLus, then the aforementioned random harsh meds will knock out your biofilter causing more water quality problems, and it's a vicious cycle...
  23. also, when doing the salt treatment - use Kosher salt, or canning and pickling salt. They both are 100% PURE SALT, and are much much cheaper than aquarium salt. Do not use regular table salt, as it contains additives to prevent caking and keep it all smooth and free flowing that are harmful to your fish.
  24. I can't imagine why someone would treat ich with harsh meds that will wipe out their biofilter, when using increased temperature and salt will eradicate the parasite without damaging the good bacteria and is also less stressful to the fish...? The salt treatment is also free... lol Can anyone clear that up for me
