  1. Has anyone chatted with Harold or know if he is still in the hobby? Thanks,
  2. what does the sick discus' poo look like. is it white and stringy? I dont think mela fix will work for you. Here the meds I have been told to use by Wayne Ng: - SALT (general cure) - metro mixed with Kanaplex (for treating bloat and other internal parasite) - levamisol (deworming) -
  3. ideally discus need to be in groups of 6 or more. is the sick discus eating? if not, i'd start treating the tank with Metro to start and see if he gets better over the next 4-5 days. Has he been acting this way since you got him? he may have been sick prior to you purchasing him.
  4. they restructured and left one store open per major city. I believe the the Calgary store that is still open is in northhill mall.
  5. I prefer to stick with BN plecos, they dont seem to bother any fish and love to tackle algae. But most plecos should be fine with Discus...just watch you temperture (84F) works for all
  6. I agree!!!! LOL And its spelled "forum"...LOL
  7. Plecos and Cory Cats should do fine in a Discus tank.

  11. you market size will directly be dictated by the price at which you wish to the the offspring. The higher the price, the smaller the market and vis versa

  13. That's a good idea. Do ACE and other clubs reciprocate? (just curious) Like can a CAS member sell at their auction? Yes they do.
  14. go to www.bigalsonline.ca enter coupon code: bcaquaria and get 15% off plus I believe they have free shipping over a certain amount of dollars

  16. Since you're adding CO2, you can use the CO2 chart to guide you. For example: if you want to achieve a target pH of 6.8, a corresponding safe KH is around 5-6. Mix your tap water with RO water to a proportion that has a KH around that or lower. Don't let the GH get too low, or like you said, you will have a lack of minerals (Ca, Mg). You can tweak it a bit by adding baking soda to raise the KH (1/2 tsp per 25 gal will raise it by 1 degree dKH). You can add Ca and Mg back in to raise the GH, but it's easier to just get it from the tap water in the first place. Sounds like you need to be a chemistry major to figure that out. I have imported Discus from all over and have always just acclimated them to tap water. Why take the fun out of the hobby, just enjoy your fish and keep the tank clean.

  18. I agree. For just a show tank, please dont mess around with the water chemistry, buy fish locally that have been acclimated to regular tap water and you experience with keeping Discus will be a much more simpler and enjoyable one. All the fish I import are always acclimated to regular tap water. that way they are easier to keep and without the headaches of testing the water every few hours. Please continue to post here for more info.
  19. there is some kind of petroleum product we use. we dip in the product with a paint brush and wipe the area we are cutting into. I'll check and find out the product tomorrow.
  20. PS; we do have some bullet tanks in stock just like the one in the picture.
  21. Give me call, I'm sure we can help you out and offer you the best pricing around.
  22. go with either a small mag pump or a small ocean runner. OR a really large powerhead. All the above can be picked up pretty cheap used.
  23. peat pellets in you filter media will also help lower PH. Hydrochloric acid will reduce PH for a short period of time then will climb back up in a matter or hours. I use Hydrochloric acid to acclimate new discus arrivals but the the PH goes back up in tank to "normal" in about 12 hours.
  24. id start with bare bottom if you are new to discus as cleaning is much easier. once you get the hang of them, then start adding what ever you want for substrate and decor....just my 2 cents.
