  1. They're also called buck tooth plecos, look them up on planet catfish. Did you pick yours up from golds? I've had mine about 4 months from them and it's great. Be sure to feed a varied diet, algae/spirulina wafers and sinking carnivore pellets are the staple of my diet, but it'll usually chomp down on some bloodworms or other frozen food that the bichirs are getting
  2. ***sssssssssssssssshhhhhhhh* If you can afford to wait a bit, golds usually blows out the last little bit of rock...5.99/lb...I payed $30 and got some really nice looking rock too for my nano, nothing cheap looking about it
  3. What's the price on the one in the first pic...definately interested
  4. Kyle, if you get pups you know where to send em LOL
  5. as already stated, be careful with any pleco...not usually recomended. Mine will be added to an 8 foot long florida/spotted gar tank
  6. although in the wild they can get up to 10 feet, captivity you're looking at about 5 ish. I've had one for less than two months, it's gone from about 3.5 inches to a little under a foot. In TWO months. These guys get big, fast. Not even a 250 is good for one. Start out with a smaller tank, but still one that gives the fish enough room to turn easily and cruise the tank. Then go bigger in incraments...this will prevent a broken back. Aligator gars do not do well with tankmates in general, so if you're going to get one, get either just that one fish or a couple of ali's. Either way, plan on having a pond.
  7. mine are a little bigger...I'll have set up by next summer, aligator gar pond, catfish pond and my sw bamboo shark bond (to be housed in heated quanset)
  8. Thank you thank you! Well I'm happy to report that after just two days of less light and increased flow, possibly with the help of the cleanup crew actually doing their effin job...the red stuff is going away. It's probably down to a third of what it was when I posted. So once completely gone I'll have to figure out a good timing ratio for the MH. Thanks again everyone!
  9. Thanks Sharug. I have one coral, bought it from Golds...stupid me doesn't even know the actual name of it. It's from Australia and they told me it similar to elegance?? I'll have to save up for some more live rock, but until then I'll take the steps. On a better note, turning off the MH and adding a ph focused on the main problem spot has seemed to reduce it already. Syphoning this weekend and will have to try and get as much out as possible
  10. thanks, will do (For both parts) I also added some bio balls to reduce noise, but stir them regularly when I do the water changes in the tank....could this be the issue?
  11. drinking is a good sign though. How are you feeding him the crickets? often placing them in a dish nestled in some vines gets them going good....just throwing them in there wont do well.
  12. picked up a 3rd Koralia 3 today and will point it at the patch that has the most (grrrrr). Sorry for being dumb, but what does "skim wet" mean? :boxed: I've set up my lights so that my MH aren't even on, just the actinics for now, on at 630 am and off at 10. Initially the MH were on from 6pm to 10, I'd imagine this would be a good amount for the eventual corals? What about possibly adding a foxface or rabbit fish? Not right away, maybe once the problem is managed?
  13. 90 Gallon Tank with built in overflow (48" long X 18" deep X 24" tall) - Glass top - 48" Metal Halide System, Total of 760 Watts of light - Two 250 Watt DE HQI - Four 65 Watt Compact Flourescent - 6 Dual LCD Blue Moon light lamps - 2 Koralia 3 Powerheads - 1 Koralia 4 Powerhead - 33 Gallon Sump/Fuge system - In Sump Skimmer Rated for 100 gallon tank - Quietone 5000 Return Pump (at 3.5 feet of head almost 1150 gph) Readings are all normal, the tank was moved from one house to another a couple weeks ago, but I moved all the rock in existing water (only ended up adding about 40 gallons new water) The tank was set up for 3 months before that.
