  1. liking the gar...what size are they? nice rays too...whats with the red spots tho?
  2. Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to amend Health of Animals Regulations. These proposed amendments affect us fish hobbyists as outlined below. The following fish will be required to have an import permit effective March 1, 2011 to enter Canada. The aquatic animal is a member of one of the following species: Barbonymus gonionotus, Carassius auratus, Devario devario, Danio rerio, Eigenmannia virescens, Glossogobius giuris, Osphronemus goramy, Oxyeleotris marmorata, Pangasius hypophthalmus, Poecilia reticulata, Puntius conchonius, Puntius sophore, Symphysodon discus, Toxotes chatareus, or Trichogaster pectoralis; stupid question...but we need permits to import rosey barbs guppies and danios now? and if we buy from a shop, how would we know if the tank raised or imported? similarly, how would they know if its tank raised or imported? will they stop selling some of these in shops? or just increase the price? like i said sorry if this is old to you and already discussed...new to me lol. ps...now i need to get me a giant gouramy before march lol
  3. haha thanks Mel, and sorry about the leak. when i picked up that gar from you, you already mentioned him eating the silver dollars and that very nice(excited about) elephant nose lol. your gator gars have a very expensive diet. the royal had a war with my clown knife, but is eating and healing up nicely. will try to get a pic of him later tonight. cant get a clear full shot of him. here he is beside my 13" CK. he has bite marks from the same CK in the pics when i first put him into the tank. now as you can see, they get along and he is healing nicely. RCK1 RCK2 RCK3 RCK4
  4. hehe thanks. it used to be the biggest in my tank until i got the RCK from Funky_Fish14. He still runs the tank tho, and keeps every fish in their place lol.
  5. a few people on here have some gars. sorry man, i really like these gars, not looking to get rid of them. when i see some, ill let you know. cool Jlake. just curious how the other gars from the same batch are doing.
  6. hehe...its way overfiltered...im planning a bigger tank real soon, 200-300 gallons. i should take a vid of when i feed them, very fun to watch lol.
  7. yep...gars need step up tanks. when i turn the lights on in the morning, the gars sometimes gets startled and bursts downward. good thing my tank is almost bare...decor cant bust some spines too. any chance of pics of your gars JLake? i prob give me 6 months-1 year before i need a bigger tank. pleanty of time to save for it lol
  8. hehe i couldnt believe how much they eat. i fed this tank 12 piece of thawed shrimp after work and 7 piece of thawed shrimp in the am(today). and when i use silversides, they eat 16 pieces, 8 in the am and 8 in the pm. they are pigs. was thinking of only feeding them once per day, but i cant do that to my fish. have any pics of your gars? dont worry man. i am planning on getting a 200-300 tank. as jvision said, im reading some dyi on another forum. the silver is the only immidiate problem for now tho. ive read from gar experts that i can house these gars for a year or 2 in a 112 gallon tank. these gars are fun to watch. they have 2 different formations they do. all side by side, and 1 after another. they play follow the leader lol.
  9. careful, they may carry bacteria from being in the wild. i would quarantine them before you feed them to your fish
  10. the first pic is the 1 i bought roughly 2-3 months ago (1-2 weeks before JLake) the 2nd...top is the other i bought the same time as the first pic...3" and 4" at the time i bought them...now 9" and 10" bottom of the 2nd is the 1 i got from hustler about a month ago. 3rd is all of them 4th is with my 14" clown knife. Pigs1 Pigs2 Pigs3 Pigs4 hey JLake, how are the gars you bought doing?
  11. i am not sure what i wanna do now. this isnt as straight forward as i thought lol.
  12. hmmm. guess theres alot more planning than i thought lol. any good source for plywood build? hustler is your just a little guy...what does that make me?...a little person?
  13. ill check for the price(hopefully cheap) for the size tank i end up deciding. if its too pricy, plywood might be the way to go.
  14. its from a friend. he gets it from calgary. my coworkers husband works for a school and he can help me out with the glass. thanks hustler, i might need your expertise with this. he did say they will cut the glass and even put it together with some uv glue and silicone. just need a welder *cough* *hustler* *cough* to help me with stand/bracing. ill even as if they can make a sump for me with thinner glass. just need a little time to get the dimension/plan this out. definitely will keep you posted. im kinda excited but dont wanna get my hopes up just in case
  15. They told me that it will bow and thats y i need the metal bracings on the sides. the glass would just fit snugly in between the metal. would look old school, but not sure if i like that look. the tank dims you just said is roughly 360 gallons. wowzers. hopefully i can get this glass cheap like my friend says hehe. yes but i kinda like looking from the sides when i want to check on something. would it be cheaper/easier if its plywood?
  16. Hi guys/gals, I was thinking of building/getting a tank built for me. It would be made out of 3/4" inch glass. I need it to be big enough for my big fishes...listed as my sig. what dimensions would you recommend? Also they told me that at that size i need to get metal braces around the sides and the glass will slide right in. is there a better way? Im doing this in glass cause i know someone that will get it for cheap. Im looking for 200-300 gallon. With the tank this size, im guessing that i will need to get the tank drilled for a sump? Can some1 help with a design that can work. thanks all
  17. is 230$ for 125 gallon good? im really interested in the livestock 20-75% off!!!
  18. really? i work like 4-5 blocks away from there. time to pay them a little visit. thanks
  19. should of cleaned the glass before i took the pics lol 55 gallon 112 gallon gar
  20. ill take a tank shot maybe tomorrow. GSP is almost starting. there is also boxing today(Khan vs Maidina) decisions decisions lol. the gar didnt take to frozen silversides right away so just for now i threw in some rosey reds ive been QTing and ate a big one. atleast he is eating(pretty bad hunter...missed 3-4 strikes) also the gar is coloured up nicely and looks like a florida gar now. sucks about the elephant nose. really excited about that too lol. THANKS AGAIN MEL!!
  21. thanks again Mel. You have the nicest tank ive seen, that tig made me drool a bit hehe. Hey JLake how are your gars doing? Here are the 2 i got growing and the 1 i just picked up from Hustler. grow out gar new gar new gar
  22. hey wackinator, never kept any mollies but have swordtails. make sure you have 3:1 female/male ratio. thats the problem my work aquarium is having, 2:1 male to female and 1 male spends all day behind plants. also wouldnt the swords and mollies that you have interbreed?
  23. are these pico tanks the 1 gallon tanks? there are plants and fish small enough to fit in there?
