  1. Already tried mixing some. I wouldn't recommend it! The sidewalk salt is a sweet idea!!!
  2. Had a pail of unused reef salt given to me by a friend. Found out it has all hardened. Chipped some out and broke it up. Ends up leaving undiluted "flakes" in the water. Suggestions? Besides dumping it and scoring another pail.
  3. The fish that are getting a pond upgrade have been housed in the same 220gl above ground pond for over 12yrs. A small power head and a horse trough heater is all that is needed to keep the water from freezing. Mind you, a bit of ice does form around the outermost edges, which is expected. On a funny side note: A friend a few years back built a new house and transported his 4 koi in a 5 gl pail to be put back in the indoor pond. He forgot about them and left them in the unheated garage. When he did remember about them he found them completely frozen in a block of ice. Sad. His son wanted to bury them so he put the pail in the pantry to let it thaw. 1/2 day later he heard splashing, looked in the bucket and found all 4 alive. Crazy!
  4. It's gonna be an outside pond. Building codes for the area allow up to 48" depth. The area in question, after being checked, has no lines whatsoever(sweet). Gonna be removing the current 220gl pond and moving the fence on one side back 8 ft. Pond area will have 2 lockable fullsize gates.
  5. Serious plans for a 1500-2000gl ground level pond are in the works. Just looking for some people's suggestions on equipment/location. Plans for a filter/pump house are in the works as well. Anyone's suggestions from experience welcome. One thing I've learned is to listen to others and be able to take advice when offered.
  6. Not too sure if that Bala is going to like it. They're not exactly lovers of salt from my understanding.
  7. Sweet. I would hate to have to throw it out. I'm slowly building up my media to use in the new sump i built for the 175gl.
  8. Ok...So I just had my first bout with Fin Rot and Cotton Wool on my Angels. I removed them from their home (100gl/Bare bottom/Driftwood) and set up a Hospital Tank with one of the filters to run it (Fluval 304) I had some good and some bad results from the experience. The 100 gl’s filters have been cleaned (4 in total. 2 Cascade 1500’s and 2 Fluval 304’s) and I’m ready to go back to business as usual. My question is this...Can I safely re-install my 304 on the 100gl that was previously running the hospital tank? According to the research I’ve done, the Meds I was using on the Hospital tank (Pimafix and Melafix) aren’t supposed to harm your system. Will I be ok using the media that was just through a Med treatment? I ‘m prepared to clean and drain the 304 again with water change water from the 100gl, then run it for a few days on it’s own. But if it’s going to be a waste of time and I should just chuck the media out, I will. Any advice is welcome, from previous experience with Fin rot and treatment to re-using media. Thanx.
  9. Always worth it to go. Lots of plants and good quality livestock. The friendly atmosphere doesn;t hurt either!

    Hi

Need to have a certain amount of posts to gain access everywhere. And Welcome!
  11. Once the weather is constantly warm I take the fish out and change the water. Scrubbing any "Nasties" (Horse trough heater during winter, no cover) I like to leave most of the algae alone on the sides, and gradually clean top to bottom over the course of a month. I'll also remove the filter pick up off the bottom and clean out the pump. Add the external filter and it's pump and we're good to go. Everything gets cleaned, just a little a time.
  12. Good layout and friendly people. A regular stop for me, that's for sure!
  13. I lost about 5 or so gallons out of my 30gl once. I had rearanged my tank setup and placed my heater in a different location. I didn't notice that the cord from the heater was left overlaped on the output of my Penguin HOB. The water managed to travel up the heater cord and down to the floor. Soaked about a 4ft diameter around the tank.
  14. Welcome! I also would like to see some picks. What's it made out of? Dimentions? Gotta know lol
  15. I'm going to the Dominican Republic in less than 2 weeks (Puntcana) and was curious if I could bring back some fry or juvies from a species indiginous to there. Does anyone know of any sites than would have all the info I need? I've been looking for different types of fish that live there exclusively and think it would be pretty cool to bring something back with me. Any and all suggestions welcome.
  16. Just thought I'd throw this in here. (no hyjack intended) I have some teleposts that would cure any support issues.
  17. Sweet. I am contemplating using 1/2" or 5/8". Did you notice any flex at all?
  18. How thick is the acrylic? Planning on building one very soon for a friend.
  19. Great thread! Read it from start to finish. It turned out awsome!
  20. The wall is already in there, and does look pretty good. Covers the rear 90* section. I've seen alot of Quarantine tanks with LOTS of oxygen, so I'm not really that worried.
