  1. I would say just don't overdue it. My boyfriend had frogs before ... and they seemed to produce far more foul smells than any fish I ever had. Yuck. Just my thoughts.

    Mko's 15 Gallon

Looks great! Still loving the lily pad plant. You're starting a 30? Can't wait to see some pics of it too.
  3. Sierra

    Why?

What kind of parasite do they have...?
  4. You could try, 15 is a bit small though. I would go for different fish and let her have her space.
  5. Yes your copper Mko. Mine now muahahaha. I would like to breed him to the black halfmoon female but she needs a break and this cross came up and it interests me. What do you think? @ Fishnerd Yes most of their genes can be broken down to Punet square (god I haven't seen that name in a long time). It's a little more complicated than that though with bettas. The easy way to think about it is they have "layers".
  6. Wow, that is something. Beautiful tank, it sure looks like it was a lot of work.
  7. What I've read the true MG carries the non red gene, however untrue MG (but appear as similar or even true) produce mixed reds in the F1 generation. I think...that would only be with a fish that carried any red gene...black doesn't.. Otherwise the only way I understand it, is... the "green like" body is not created by green genes.
  8. Black Copper x Mustard Gas Mustard gas - possibly not a mustard gas that breeds true and then in the creators opinion not a mustard gas at all. However does look exactly like a true original mustard gas... Greenish body, yellow/white/black "layered" Tail. I'm having difficulty figuring out what their babies may look like, but for some reason I think It would be interesting to do. I don't like red, but there is a chance the MG if untrue will give red. I just might have to see... Anyone got an opinion / can educate me better / know something I should??
  9. I second the anubias. I like the look of them too. They do best with their roots exposed and not buried...like attached to driftwood. A sword would be nice, but the ones I've had quickly take over. Also some surface plants like maybe frogbit would be good, but not enough to block substantial amounts of light from your other plants. I'm not a big fan of most java ferns, but they are very easy to grow.
  10. No it definitely is something. Internet says it is an ovipositer or extension of the anus :boxed: ... was hoping someone actually knows!? New to me too, never even heard of it till now.
  11. If I was going to sell...not much not more than 10 for a set. I want to find an easier way to get the edge I want cause that part kinda sucks. I scratched one going crazy with the wrong sandpaper cause I wasn't paying attention. I don't think you could scratch it at all unless you were really trying. Also I have seen them with more bends and they look nice too, but I think they would be a lot harder to clean. You can make them look anyway you want basically. Ive seen other ones without the funnel...but are those even considered "lily" pipes? Isn't the whole purpose the funnel??? Yeah I know...wow when they are over..YEEHAW. Wrote the "hardest" one yesterday..aced it. Wrote the "easiest" one today....possibly bombed it. You would think if I had 93% going in.... and then just blew away the final like that he would see something is wrong with his test. Yikes depends how everyone else did. On to the next one, no use worrying! Good luck, I know this time of year is crazy.
  12. Acrylic from Johnston Plastics. or maybe its johnson... it'll come up on google anyway

    Hi There!

Hi, welcome to AA. There is lots of good information on here and even more friendly people. :welcome:
  14. Again very cool. Whoa it really took off, how old is it? Do you notice any differences to your water?
  15. Yes that does help, thank you. The picture is very similar to the one I bought yes. Have you heard of this happening?? Internet information seems mixed on what it is.. I've seen the girls help, but never initiate their own nest, but it wouldn't surprise me. Thanks
  16. Alright you pros out there....so males with ovipositers ...it happens? (news to me...) This is my first plakat (...oh no 2 in 2 days lol uh oh...) it's a halfmoon, maybe you guys saw the pictures of it. The copper dragon Mko had for sale. Anyway thought it was male...it definitely has a ovipositer though...or something... So how do I tell if it's a boy or a girl!? I am going to try seeing if it will build a nest, but besides that I need some tips here. Beard...? Long ventral fins? I am sure it is a male...but I'm not positive. How/will this affect its ability to breed? What could cause this?
  17. Hey, you just saw this tank live too =) um the lily pad looking plant is hydrocotyle verticillata. How's the betta? Yeah actually it looked great, I thought I said lol! Maybe I was too busy looking at the other fish. does the plant spread horizontal at all or did you plant each "lilypad" by itself?? The betta is great, I stole the pictures you took of it cause it wouldn't stay still for me to get any last night. Hey...about the betta totally thought it was a boy...but Ovipositer...is very visible... do you know if its a boy or a girl??? I read online some males have it....um never heard of that before actually I better post in the betta section total hijack of thread lol.
  18. If you're bored and have a heat gun. You can get all the base material for around $25. (lots of tries, minimum purchase of tubing/rod material is 25) Household items you probably already have +salt +special fine tooth saw (possibility to be creative here) --used for cutting very thin part without cracking ....hardest part of the whole thing +glue (recommend high temp) +another person makes it 10x easier +patience
  19. Thanks, like I said it wasn't bad for the first one. Good way to shrimp proof filters vs. the classic sponge option (to me anyway). I have heard they are difficult to clean unless you have the right ..?tool?
  20. Looks good, do you know the name of that lily pad looking plant closest to the right side?
  21. I'm sorry I feel like I should have used a different word than domestic. I mean all store bought tail types. Sorry about that hope it clears things up! It's good you asked, most people would just assume they know. There is a lot of helpful people here that have assisted me.
  22. Yes they do need to be able to breathe ideally circulated or open surface air. None of mine have ever liked having too much current, and I've had a notable amount of domestic jumpers. ...think of the labyrinth organ like our lungs... if that helps
