  1. I was interested in this title because I'd never used Prime, but then wanted to try it because of good reviews. A couple of my bettas really seemed not to do well with it. A couple went from perfect health to sluggish and bloated. Considering I didn't change anything else I had to reason it was something to do with the Prime. Notably most recovered when I stopped using it, 1 did not. I finished the bottle on my non-betta tank, but won't buy it again.
  2. I'm from there and return fairly often to visit. If you ever need something brought from Edmonton and I'm making a trip up, I would be willing to drop it off. Lots of good information on this site.
  3. Hey what kind of lighting do you have on this tank?
  4. Was also wondering if anyone had any negative experiences? Mostly good? I've wanted to...but have been to nervous. Edit: Also it's good to hear positive things from people using Edmonton water as opposed to trying to look online for this info.
  5. Love the clean look! Can tell you put a lot of time and thought into the system. Questions: 1. I have the same rack and was wondering how do you feel it holds the weight all together? 2. Does the undergravel filter in picture 3 have any clogging problems with the substrate? 3. Could you go into more detail how your auto top off works? Thanks
  6. Looks great! The way you supported it with egg crate at the bottom may help me with some future projects. How much do you think it weighed before you cut it to get in the tank??
  7. That is so cool! I wish he did other fish too...*cough* bettas *cough*. I want one!
  8. I've only ever had one female who didn't have any interest in RCS. I've tried many...it only takes one to decimate the population rather quickly.
  9. Ooh I like him. Black and metallic my favorite. Nice fish.
  10. yes a vertical cut "long ways" in the cup. Rim to bottom.
  11. I've seen this lately since I added galaxy rasboras...they are tiny. I often see the other shrimp snacking on a dead one too...so both put together mangled in no time.
  12. Simply stunning. Love it.
  13. The all white ones they have will set you back 50 bucks. Then they can range from 5-25 depending what kind and how nice. I have a bunch to be rid of soon, but they're all females.
  14. Yes I was under the impression also that all the eggs had to be moving to hatch. I don't actually know if that is true or not lol. I'll try to describe it a bit better: I cut off the top of the bottle, then I insert the airline tubing into a straw. (I have a straw and piece of airline tubing I just connect and disconnect for ease). The straw reaches near the bottom and therefore there are no eggs sitting or still. I also place a piece of saran wrap over the top and have a desk lamp shining on the hatchery for warmth. Obviously one does not supervise it so I wanted a no-leak no-tipping risk set up. I can see why this piece of hardware the topic is about... would be wanted if you did have a system that had the risk of a leak. In that case I would definately want one cause who wants to worry about a possible leak! Collection: I just turn off the air and let everything settle. I then use a light to concentrate the shrimp and use a turkey baster. It actually works really well because I place the light near the bottom and when I use the turkey baster it pulls up all the slightly lighter shrimp before it starts sucking any eggs off the bottom. Then I filter through a coffee filter. Takes less than 2 minutes (after settling time). Possibly another pro is...it is really easy to clean.
  15. I am so glad you said that because those are the 2 plants (najas and elodea) I could not get to prosper and survive. I thought more excel should help them...but it didn't help. However I'm sure there will be other casualties as I expand my plant knowledge...
  16. Wow I never wanted big fish till I saw these pictures... they're stunning! Red one is my favorite of the bunch. Very nice.
  17. I would stay away from the egg yolk as it really fouls up water and water conditioner costs more than flake food. Also because these are guppies they are big enough fry to eat just crushed up food. For a cheap divider you can use a black plastic paper cover folder store and craft mesh (to add strength/sturdyness). Simply cut to sit tight and ziptie together. All 3 of those can be bought at the dollar store. If you don't want to be overrun with fry I would recommend lots of hiding places and they will be okay and you won't get too many too fast. Fry are very exciting and welcome to the website!
  18. I'm almost nervous to add to this topic...however ...I don't drill the bottom of the cap... I cut off the top of a bottle and stick rigid tubing (I actually use a straw) into the hatchery. It's leak proof I guess...and sturdy I have noticed that at first the eggs seem to stick to the sides but in about 1-2 minutes that stops. If you guys have tried this method what are some pros and cons and why don't you use it? I've only been hatching my own for about a year, but it seems to work fine for me and I like it. I feel like i'm missing something important here...
  19. I'd love to swap barracks designs if you have one planned out.
  20. I love black and white..together seperate it's all good! It's nice to see other people excited over these fish. I find their genetics just fascinating. There are a ton of websites out there with great information, but beware the more you read the more obsessed you become...or errr such is the case with myself. Good luck with all your new babies!
  21. For those of you with tons of tiny little fry...what are your tricks and tips? Currently I use a small siphon hose as it's important to me to get the junk of the bare bottom but this is very tedious. I find fry who have been accidentally sucked up rarely survive. I'm looking for a better way...help me out! Should I add a cleaner to the tank to help out? What do you guys recommend?
  22. The very information I was looking for. It says "referral from a member". That's not true lol... does it matter? Not sure if you're using it for anything or not. Thanks.
