  1. I've patched actual cracks using a piece of glass internally - didn't bother with anything on the outside. This was on a 66gal, so not as big as yours, but still it wasn't a tiny tank. I don't know what happened to the tank, as I gave it to someone who was doing fish rescue, but the tank held for me for well over a year with my patch job.
  2. Sounds like it could be an airlock at the impeller. Try running it tilted on its side for a bit, so that all of the air is at the "OUT" side.
  3. I've used Java fern and Anubias a lot in cichlid tanks. Check out a few of my journals for some ideas

  5. With domestic strains all you usually need is good food and clean water. When you do a WC with cooler water, like ck mentions, most fish will get it on - it mimics a good rain... and really, what better thing to do on a rainy day?
  6. Every horror story I've heard from people using "aquarium safe" silicon is from not letting it cure before adding water/fish.
  7. Fieldstone background: http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=22645 Fieldstone piles: http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=22950 Rundlestone pile converted to Fieldstone pile: http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=41819
  8. I think you're thinking flag stone... Just ask for fieldstone at Burnco before you decide.
  9. Fieldstone is a type of rock you can pick up at Burnco...
  10. Go dig around the Fieldstone (4-12" if they have it) pile at the local rock/landscape company. Fieldstone is typically igneous and metamorphic rock, comes in so many different shapes and colors, and you'll get more flat sides to help stack and create caves.
  11. Veggies are relatively plane tasting compared to NLS. I'd skip McDonalds/Subway at lunch if it meant I could have Keg for supper!
  12. Check out my aquaponics thread. My pond is a 300gal stock tank, I have a pond pump that pumps water up thru the grow beds. I run a dehumidifier in the room, which is insulated, that keeps the room temp in the high 20s Celcius - no heaters required.
  13. BNs get that big all the time, too.
  14. I've used Krylon Fusion on PVC pipe that's in my tanks
  15. I'm a sand guy, myself. However, plants need nutrients, like ckmullen said. So, if you aren't feeding the roots (soils, root tabs, etc) you'll have to feed the water column (fertilizers) I use the Estimative Index method for my planted tanks.
  16. Next time you're in my neighborhood, stop by. I'll show you what I've done and give you ideas on how to set it up.
  17. I was referring to granite rocks and boulders... but if you like the look of slabs stacked to build caves, etc. that'll do.
  18. Go to a landscape supply store. In Edmonton, the big ones are Canaar and Burnco - they've got the best selection. For building walls/piles, I like Fieldstone because it's got some flat surfaces, which make stacking easier, and any color you'd want; or, granite b/c it's inert and has flat surfaces.
  19. I wasn't able to see the site. Try posting uploading the pic directly to this site, or to a host site like photobucket and post a link to this thread

    Hello

Patric was the Vic breeder - I believe his business was called Fins N Gills. I haven't seen him in years. I don't know anyone who has the diversity and quality he kept. Good luck on your search!
  21. These guys mostly get NLS, but also zucchini. I just cut a chunk, stick a fork in it and let them eat it raw.
