  1. Thanks, that makes my collection 24....I think I have a problem. I have a friend at a wholesaler who picked these up for me. Did a quick water and re-arranging, so here is my little moss ball garden.
  2. All this talk of Marimos made me want to get more. Here are 8 I picked up today ranging from 3.5" to 5" in diameter in my 40 gallon breeder.
  3. I'm pretty sure the female in the pic dropped her eggs after they were deposited under her tail. She isn't the best looking female so if she doesn't smarten up, it's off to the feeder colony for her :chair: .......... Thanks guys! These guys are not showing any red yet, maybe arfter a shed or two. I have some in there that are ~1/4" that are definitely showing red. Ron Edit: Added pic of 3/8" PFR with shrimplet behind it.
  4. Don't get discouraged, low tech set ups aren't that difficult. Not familiar with the substrate you are using but if it leeches ammonia like ADA Amazonia you better set up another tank (or bucket) for your fish. I'm no expert but I had to set up a planted tank quick a little while ago for some fish and all I did was use Fluval Shrimp Stratum, mulm, 50% water from a cycled tank, 25% dechlorinated water, 25% RO/DI water and some MTS. After the water cleared with the filter running, in about 1.5 days, I added 5 tubs of plants that were labelled "easy", a heater and the fish. I might have also added some Stability when I added the fish. So far so good and since the fish being added I've added some shrimp. Good luck.
  5. I would do a 50% water change and dose with Prime, it will convert the ammonia to a non-toxic form (ammonium I think). I would definitely set up a temp tank if you plan on keeping the substrate. Ron
  6. Here is a pic of one of the new fry. I have seen 6 or 7, hopefully there are more hiding. Ron
  7. If you come down to Calgary, you can find smaller ones at Riverfront (I just picked up another 6 at the 50% off sale) or Tanks Alot. If you want really big balls go to Pisces, they have ones that are 5 or 6" in diameter. Ron
  8. I believe most shrimp will eat snails, I've read on some forums that people just squish pond snails on the glass and let their shrimp clean it up. I've seen my RCS crawl into Ramshorns shells, after my puffers have taken out all they can reach, and clean them out.
  9. Thanks, there are a couple females in there that have little eyes under their tails so hopefully I'll have shrimp fry swimming around. Ron Update: Just saw my first baby this morning....Yippee!
  10. I've been hanging around my PFR tank hoping to see some eggs hatch and I caught this today. Not the clearest of pics but let's just say they're not known for their stamina so I had to work quickly.
  11. Congrats, I've really fallen for all my shelled friends. Ron
  12. Couple more pics. Edit: Sorry, had to remove pics so I could post pics in other threads
  13. Don't know, there isn't much info out there on them. They are still pretty young/small, when they get a little bigger I hope to see some breeding behaviour.
  14. Hello, I found my camera battery charger yesterday so I decided to celebrate by finally taking pics of my CPO. Thanks for looking. Ron
  15. Well I've had 3 or 4 females drop their eggs but looks like there are 2 with eggs that are almost ready to hatch. Saddles have appeared and eggs are starting to show eyes so hopefully I'll have a wack more PFRs. I also see at least 3 more berried females so watch out for the red army coming soon.
  16. I contacted him through another site on PMs, I'll ask him for an email and I'll PM it to you.

    Cannister Filters

I have an Eheim Pro 3e 2076 and love it so far. It was easy to set up and I really like the flow control on this model.
  18. So you've checked all your water parameters? Have you been treating the water for chlorine and chloramine before adding? I would change more than 10% weekly but that really depends on your bioload.

    Wood Shrimp

I would check all your water parameters but sounds like ceviche to me, have you tested the pH?
  20. No sure but I think you should be okay if they are filter feeders. Are they the same as African Filter shrimp or Vampire shrimp?
  21. The changes look good. Congrats on the berried females, in a month you'll have baby shrimp everywhere. Ron
  22. What kind of inverts did you have dying in your Ebi? Did you lightly rinse your substrate before putting it in your tank? I really like the Shrimp Stratum substrate and when I do my weekly cleanings I do a light vacuuming which doesn't cloud the water much if at all. Since my original layout, I've rearranged the plants a couple times which clouded the water but it was crystal clear by the next day. I think the substrate is a key to shrimp keeping by lowering the pH. They could use more substrate in the kit, the supplied 2 kg bag doesn't create a layer thick enough for easy planting; I have 3 kg of Shrimp Stratum in each of my Ebi's. As for the filter, I think it should come with some kind of pre-filter and different media. In my 2 Ebi filters, I filled the last chamber with Eheim Substrat Pro for more biological filtration. Ron
  23. Thanks. Right now I hope I can keep them alive, as the grading goes up so do their sensitivity. I know people in Calgary have adapted their Grade A CRS to Calgary tap water, my set up is 80% RO and I don't think I'll ever risk changing the ratio and messing with the GH. The breeder even said that the SSS+ Crowns and Flowers were more delicate than SSS. I will definitely let you know if they do breed for me. Ron
  24. Thanks, here is a shot of the full set up
  25. I was bored so I made my pre-filter tonight. Please keep in mind that I was focussing on the pre-filter in my photo, I am really not that bad of a photographer.
