  1. Any word on when the next auction is?
  2. Welcome to the Community! Make sure to post pictures of your tanks in the picture thread. http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=6085&hl=
  3. lol tigs, around here the water tends to be very hard. but I guess i will have to a GH test on it when I get there. All that being said, I love my tank too much to get rid of it, I think a blue water bottle now and again from the store would be worth it.
  4. Hey guys, so my family has been waiting for the opportunity to move out into the country for quite some time and its finally here. However, I have no desire to haul water in for my tank. I have pretty a low maintenance tank as it is any how, so my water needs wouldn't be super high, but the likelihood would be that top ups and minor water changes would be done with well water. I have no idea what the water is like out there, thou its a sure bet its hard water, and the area has high iron in the water. Is this something that I should be overly concerned with? I don't want to just try it out and see because I really like the population I have in my tank at the moment. Anyone doing this?
  5. im sure that a small w/c could lower the water a couple of degrees and then over night the water temp will slowly fall again. Id just add a small amount of regular tank temp water. If you are really worried, just do one then another small one in a few hours. But I think you will be ok.
  6. I think it looks sweet. looking forward to seeing pictures of it running
  7. P.s. camera was low on batt, hence the poor grain pics. Will try to replace later when camera is charged
  8. just an image update on my walstad tank now nearing 120 days old (tomorrow) Looks a lot different from the beginning. Now stocked with 4 rainbows (preacox) and 1 Albino Cory and a bunch of Mts and another variety of pond snail, not RHS. Another Walstad Method tank that I havent been high lighting. Im not too sure when I started this one. I took the tiger lotus from my original walstad and moved it in there, along with some pcs and most of the anubius from the original tank. Otherwise this is a community tank. Rummy nose tetras, serpea tetras, albino corys, sterbai corys, albino sailfin pleco, undescibed mollies (from auction, anoyone else get these? Mine are getting a neat blue colour to them). Theres likely some thing Im missing, but you get the idea. Mish Mash, yup youve got the picture
  9. This one likes to hang out alone at the moment, hard to get a pic of all of them together. I suspect this is maybe a male? I also am realizing that I may need a floating plant for them to hang out below. Anyone have any recommendations for a floating plant that will not over take my tank? My thoery of the solo fishy being male is not the case. The source of them tells me that he missed the male when he was bagging them up. Oh well, will have to get one later and breed the dickens out of them :P
  10. Got a sweet donation for my Walstad yesterday. 4 Preacox. They take my tank and make it super sexy! Took out all but my albino cory and put them in my community tank. This will be a rainbow tank now
  11. are you planted? how much? how filtered is the tank? If its filtered well, or moderately to heavily planted, you could likely try about anything in there. A personal favourite of mine are cardinal tetras or white cloud minnows. WCMs are cheaper but when they are healthy have nice red fins with yellow accents. Cardinals are more money than wcms but cheaper than their more finicky and pricey lookalike neon tetras. Both look good as a mid to large size school. No matter what you get, I would be sure to get a least some low maintenance plants in there to help reduce waste spikes and w/cs. Not to mention the effects plants have on the behaviour of your fish. Hope this helps.
  12. search up rainbow ricks journal. hes got a lot of info in there.
  13. Lol nope I believe that was Fishclubgirl, if they were a brunette. I was the blonde with the black hoodie, later was a dark grey/black tank. Btw I snagged 2 bags of green laser Cory's (thanks Paul) and managed to get the first bag of wood cats. Got a bag of 6-F1 gymnogeophagus , starter cutler of Walter worms, naja grass and some lovely boboltis, some wonderful neon rice fish and was give a black schultzei (thank you again for the gift, I dripped him to acclimatize him, and he is swimming happily with my 2 big mommas, I forgot your names you lovely Saskatchewan people but thank you again). Met so many amazing people and had a fabulous time thank you ACE and CAS! I havent ever noticed those green lasers before at any of the auctions I have been at, I assume that they are a rare variety considering how much they went for and the fact that you paid that much twice. Hopefully you can get them to spawn and bring some to another auction to sell How do you like the wood cats? Those rice fish were a thing that I definitely hesitated too long on, shoulda woulda coulda I guess. I find myself wishing I had done more research on rainbow prior to this auction, being unfamiliar with them kept me from coming home with a couple types I found quite attractive, those Creeks in particular.....Oh well, maybe next time.
  14. update, overnight its landed in various places in my tank, Ive resolved that I really dont mind the way it looks at the moment so Im going to leave it. Hopefully I can eventually get some shrimp for a decent price and Ill have enough of it to use as a mop in my shrimp tank
  15. SGG- were you the one in the blue shirt?
  16. hmm, maybe Ill have to set up a fry tank for the inevitable event of my mollies spawn.... Thanks guys, was just hoping that I didnt get a bad plant or something.
  17. I got rummy nosed tetras, sterbai corys, some of those 'undescribed' mollies from south america (rusty something or others), some giant vals and a wad of najas grass. I was hoping to see more hardware (lights) but this time there was little that I was more than bulbs. Next Day comments: Im not too sure how everyone else are liking their undescibed mollies, but my batch had a couple in there that are closer to maturity and beginning to show colour. Im very happy with them. My corys also look very nice now that they arent stressed out anymore. Truthfully I got the rummies because noone was bidding on them and wasnt too excited about them at first, but now that they arent stressed anymore, they look super in my tank. I kind of have a red and white theme in my 30 gallon for my mid and top swimmers so the combo of colours in them makes for a nice look, not to mention that they put on a nice show in their schooling.
  18. Got some of this at the auction, have no experience with it. Put it in my tank and the current from my filter sent it all over the place, getting it tangled in all my other plants..... What do I do with it? Im already seeing it just gathering on the intake of my filter and whatnot. Is there someway to make it stay a nice ball, or floating mat? Any tips appreciated, got it pretty cheap but would hate to just get rid of it if I can do something about this.
  19. Just wanted to thank all members who participated in auctioneering and all volunteers who did a bunch of running around for the auction. Everyone did great and I know I personally had a great time
  20. Im thinking that you mean the Edmonton Hotel and Convention Centre referred to in the ad? I think that Edmonton Event Centre is in the WEM? Just for clarification?
