  1. I'm thinking of going with the eheim Professionel 3 XL. I can't find anything bad about it I have been doing alot of reading about moding the fx5 and most of the mods would be easy to do, but some of them look like they'r more of a pain than it's worth.
  2. Welcome back to AA, English bullterriers are great dogs your lucky to have a couple. Malawi cichlids are nice, great choice
  3. Thanks, it's a handy chart but I find it weird that It doesent have a 5 gallon rectangle tank size I may just edit that first post and include 5 gallon measurements.
  4. I saw silicone on sale at home depo on monday.I diddent look to see if it was aq safe. Also how often should you reseal a tank?
  5. Edmonton water is perfect for Africans, other than that I need peat in some of my south American tanks to lower hardness and ph Edit- almost forgot welcome to AA

  7. http://innovationlandscaping.com/fx5/ thanks Jason great info, I may get one of these and mod the crap out of it,I'll see how hard the conversion is
  8. I always use 2 filters,I need a good current for my plecos, Don't have a problem buying 2 of the Rena or the eheim Which is better? Also what do you mean mod the filter? Is it hard? I'll concider this
  9. Thank you, I'll read about the Rena XP4. but if the eheim is better I'll pay the extra cash.
  10. I need a filter for my new 180 gallon tank.I'm wondering what everyones opinion on Eheim is? Or is there a better filter brand out there?
  11. I usually find nice rocks at a river or lake. And as Jason said, just do a acid test, if it won't dissolve in your tank then give it a good cleaning and your good to go
  12. I have only ever had one problem with shrimp an snails in the same tank. I found that my apple snails got scared when the shrimp touched them, therefore my apole snail almost died because they stayed in their shells inttead of eating. But red ramshorn,MTS,and pond snails don't seem to mind shrimp
  13. I'll have to check out golds next time I'm in Calgary, thanks everyone
  14. I stoped in at pisces for 20 mins, nice live plants, good fish and great deals on heaters and stuff. But in my opinion the best fish store was actually a basement in south Calgary.
  15. Nice tanks, where did you get your rock for the African tank? And are you running c02 in the planted tank? Looks great
  16. Water changes and salt,And mabey increase the tempature just slightly And from my experience the 5 in 1test strips don't work well,I don't know if you use those.
  17. Yes, I have no doubt that Harold has some of he niceest fish in Alberta But I also want to check out either pisces or golds, and see the difference between Edmonton stores and Calgary stores
  18. I'm going to see Harold actually, but I want to stop by one of the better stores in Calgary and check it out
  19. I only have time to stop at one petstore In Calgary on Thursday,I have never checked out Calgary stores, which one should I stop at?
  20. I guess you could do that, it's kinda fun watching grass grow lol Worse comes to worse try a different substrate if you get bored of just plants
  21. Do you use the API 5'in 1 test strips, or do you use the liquid vial ones? The strips dont work well in my experience. did you use any chemicals in the tank recently to treat sickness or anything? Maybe it's the bioload, you said you do 2 x weekly water changes,'what % of the water do you change?
  22. I have been using the API brand test kits for my water parameters they seem to work well. Also yes seems like a large bioload for the little 8 gal
  23. Lol no I have never been banned, I kind of knew you went talking to me but had to be safe. Edit-sorry for wasting peoples time with this post
