  1. welcome to aa. lots for friendly helpful people on here.
  2. welcome to aa lots of catfish enthusiasts on here, the talapia and bigger stuff mat be hard to find though
  3. best/most expensive-get a R/O unit and mix ro and tap water or get some indian almond leaves and put them in your tank. or filter your water through peat or put peat in your tank in some new panti-hoes
  4. i own probably 50 nerites of differnt colors. i had to buy probably 85-90 nerites to get this number, you need really a tight lid.....they like to climb out and fall on the floor...but dont worry too much,as long as the snail has not dried out is should spring back to like once put in its tank(i usually float them in a breeder trap or just leave them in a net until they come out of there shell) i couldent tell you why they do this.......but mine have seemed to stop now that thet have gotten older
  5. +1 you can also do a acid test on the rocks
  6. whats cheeper using one product for all tanks?or using fish specific conditioners? prime(2L $36.99) + 100 almond leaves($10-$12) or buying prime(2L $36.99)+ betta conditioner 37ml ($4.49) realisticly the bag of leaves will last ten times longer than the bottle of betta conditioner, seems more expensive for the same results to use betta conditioner. just my opinion
  7. i havent seen anyone use it yet,it might be safe. but you would need to clean it really well, and make sure its not going to affect your tank in the long run(it might raise hardness,or leach in weird stuff) if you just want the red color, check out the flourite substrate at AC,not the black florite sand, but the stuff beside it
  8. lame, but ich is easy to cure,a little aquarium salt and raise the temp a little.
  9. lets do a casino night to raise money, i like the auction once in awhile not every month
  10. sorry to jump in so late here, those Cryptoheros Nanoluteus are probably safe with everything....untill they hit breeding size, they killed 4 of my longfin banjo cats when they started breeding in my 55 gallon.now the only thing with them is my 2 domestic bread 134 plecos, they hide in caves all day tho.just a friendly warning they are great parents tho, nothing gets close to their fry.(they even bite me,when im cleaning the tank) and yes those snails are red and brown ramshorn snails on the plants i gave you, they take over my tanks sorry about that. but if you want more plants im getting over stocked waiting for the electrician to finish down stairs. cool i diddent think anyone was actually using my tip,i thought it was pretty impressive how fast you see good results. the guys at AC are probably right about the ottos getting picked on,but if you had a really heavily planted tank i think they would be fine with lots of places to hide. good luck finding a home for your plecos
  11. i dont see you overdosing your tank with C02 with a DIY setup its always nice to have a test kit around, just for occasions like this when something weird is happening. its a little pricy, but i really like those API master kits. i always run 2 filters per tank,i like how you role.if one stops for some reason, the other one keeps going untill you can fix the problem. i overkill it though im running 2AC 50's on my 29 gallon planted tank its probably not them being lonely but i suggested it because im almost running out of helpful ideas
  12. ehime is great.....but not everyone can afford it for every tank they own. id say rena is best bang for your buck
  13. your tank doesent looked overstocked.and corys and bristle noses wouldent stress them out. are you using liquid tests for your tank or those 5-in1 strips? i find the strips arn't that accurate. edit- i keep my mollys in a group of 8-14,they seem happy. maybe its lonely??
  14. well i haven't seen platyXguppy cross personally yet but i have heard of it happening. my black molly's cross bread with my red tuxedo guppys 3 months ago, they were all black, wiith a slight reddish hue on their tail fin. but i culled them with clove oil because i don't have room for them and i didden't want my black mollys unpure. -edit- like i said tho,my female golddust molly's sometimes rub on the sand when giving birth.....maybe it helps push it out? if your tank parameters are good then the top-swimming fish shoulden't hang out on the bottom of the tank for longer than 30seconds-2mins at a time.basically just enough to get a rest also like someone else said if they are stessed by a tankmate they will hangout on the bottom of the tank, but with non aggresive tankmates like guppys i wouldent think its stressed, unless the tank is over stocked.
  15. 1+ but also i do regular testing on my tank paramaters, all normal levels. and my female golddust mollys sometimes rub on the sand when giving birth.....maybe it helps push it out?
  16. maybe you could try ottos or pigmy corys as your cleaners? they seem small enough for the kribs to defend against.
  17. i know indoor gardening is different than aquatic gardening, but my experience,is the same as geleens....just with non aquatic gardening if the led is not 3-5 watts each you dont have enough power to grow anything other than very low light plants...... if your using the ballast mentioned(11 watts and the induvidual LED 0.6 W) then you would need it like 1-2 inches away from the plant to get any good effects. i have seen some really nice reef LED setups but they are usually 3W LED's,and like geleen said 6500k is very hard to make into a led,so most leds use 5500k which still works, but i have heard people raise a stink about it....in my experience 5500k or 6500k work fine....and if you mix 5500k and 6500k then you get some awasome results.(with house plants) you can get really awasome led fixtures that are great for growing plants but you need to be willing to spend $300-$2700 per fixture. none of the freshwater LED fixtures i have seen for sale YET have more than 1W LED's in them.(might work on a 10-15 gallon tank) it seems people have focused on reef LED's because i found a reef fixtures with 3-5W LED's(3-5W would work on a 20-24inch deep tank no proplems) i dont think LED's will be ready for freshwater aquariums for a couple years. hope this helps make a decision -edit- blueram, i have that same brand of fixture your looking at,but the small version for a 10 gallon tank........if you pay the shipping its yours free
  18. natural health store, Eugenia caryophyllata AKA clove oil
  19. some people dont like feeding live food, and would rather have the fry die with no pain(clove oil) for anyone that doesent care about feeding fish to other fish go ahead and throw the fry in with a predator
  20. ^^^^^ this is the best method in my opinion, painless. i also go one step further and after they are sedated,i put them in the freezer for a couple hours, then throw them away
  21. WAY better, good job  i like to see the before and after comparison, her colors are coming in nicely
  22. congrats she is coming along nicely. do you have a before picture?
