Normally you don't have a glass a top on the tank if you have a planted or reef tank as it blocks out too much light. But i'm assuming that you are concerned about humidity or fish jumping out? You can make a screen mesh in that case. I would either hang the light or mount some legs for them. Depends on what brand of lighting you have. Most fish stores have replacement glass lids in stock. I would just use the plastic hinge it comes with. If you flip it upside so that the flat part is facing up, you can fold it back ontop of itself which makes it easy for doing maintenance. But then again, that will depend on whether your light is sitting directly on top of the glass tops or not.

You can buy the same plants through Pisces. You can also place special order for anyones that Aquaflora carries. It works out to being cheaper than through CA.

I hate having to take the hoses apart to keep them clean. Makes me want to use a solid PVC pipe instead.

I thought this as well as I looked up an older copy of the MSDS that was saved on another plant forums cache. This is the most up to date one that i can find from Metrex themselves (manufacturer of Metricide). Metricide 14 - http://www.metrex.com/msds/metrex/us/english/MetriCide.pdf Glutaraldehyde 2.6% Water 97.4% Metricide 28 - http://www.metrex.com/msds/metrex/us/english/MetriCide%2028.pdf Glutaraldehyde 2.5% Water and other inert ingredients 97.5% Please be aware that they have a seperate MSD for the activator itself, and these MSDS ingredent listings do not include the activator mixed in already. In the end I lost close to 20 fish in 8 days.

YIKES!!!! Metricide 28 contains a surfactant. So stupid, why didn't I read the label. I should have just waited and bought the Metricide 14. We'll this is going in the trash right now. EDIT: Taking to the fire department for proper disposal.

I was hoping not to as it got into everything. all my foreground carpet, the driftwood and all the slow growing plants. It would take forever to syringe it. I really think that the fish are dying because of the metricide. I am still getting 2 or 3 dead fish a day. I never had any dead fish in my tank for months until I started dosing metricide. Very strange.

Okay, so 2 doses now at 5ML. Still have some fish death but maybe that is because of something else. BBA is there (total of 6 days dosing now). I'll keep updating this and hopefully post images at the end of it all.

Thanks for the help. I'm assuming that they are hanging around the dosing area. Also, it was low flow. I've re-directed my canister outlet to blow the water away. Let's see what happens tomorrow. I didn't want to spot treat as I didn't want to touch the metricide. If I continued dosing through the auto doser, will the BBA all die off? It is pretty much everywhere now. All over my carpet and driftwood. And yes, I did throw the activator away.

Haha your right on the water changes. I'm developing my basement so all the buckets are manually lifted from the bathtub on the third floor all the way to the basement. I am dosing it because I saw that one third here on AA a couple of weeks ago and thought that I could kill this BBA off before it takes over my tank. I am so bad at math. Somewhere I thought that I was suppose to overdose for the first week and then go dial it down. I guess I should be at 4ML each day?

I think he is out to get me. 90 gallon high tech tank (pressurized co2 at 30ppm on 2 hours before lights on, 1 hour before lights off). Estimative Index dosing (should have stuck with PMDD when I had absolutely zero bba of any kind). Solution was made so that I can dose on a daily basis instead of 3 times a week. 50% water changes each week 1 x Eheim Pro 3e and 1 x Rena XP3 (lots of circulation) All dosing is through a Bubble Magus auto doser Macros - 35ML Micros (with Seachem Iron mixed into it) - 20ML Metricide (straight dosing) - 8ML (now reduced to 4ML)

Hi everyone. I started dosing metricide 28 (excel subsitute) on my tank. Since I started dosing it (using an automatic doser), I am finding dead fish each day. I am overdosing according to excel instructions, but have scaled the dosage down accordingly. Anyone experience this before?

The problem with the canister is that it will become a detrius trap and you will have to clean it out weekly. If your willing, you can use either or. Just make sure you shake the filter material out in old tank water with each cleaning. For the pod idea, they will end up getting chopped up pm their way out so it won't help your mandarin. How about you just take some live rock, sew some cross stitching material around it and use that as a breeding ground for your mandarin. If your tank is not established for more than 6 months, I wouldn't bother buying the mandarin as it will starve out.

I live in a newer community and a 3 year old house. No phosphates in my water. I run tap water and seachem prime. No issues with my fresh water planted or my nano tank (establish for over a year). There are lots of people on canreef who run Calgary tap water with ill effects.

I have a large piece that was in my tank for 2 years. I then shutdown the tank for a year and am now soaking it again in a white bucket. It's still releasing a lot of tannins.

You should not have a problem as long as the sps is in the upper half of the tank. You should put the frags on the sand bed to start for the first couple of weeks to acclimate the light. Even though it is 4 instead of 6 bulbs, that is still a lot of light intensity for t5s. The harder corals will depend on how mature the tank is.

I had some luck attaching cryptocoryne to my driftwood. I just shoved a baby one into a hole and the roots stuck onto the driftwood. It looks messy compared to java fern. That little plant grew great, but very slow.
